((긴 글 입니다)) 작년 2월 졸업과 동시에 취업을 했었습니다. 누구나 알 정도로 유명하며, 복지 좋고 페이 좋고 안정적이기로 유명한 곳이라 가족과 주변 어른들, 친구들도 잘 들어갔다고 했죠. 그러나 사수를 포함한 일부 선배들로부터 심각한 언어폭력에 시달렸습니다. 업무 자체가 특수해서 굉장히 스트레스풀하고, 책임도 크기 때문에 다들 예민하거든요. 그 상황에서 아무것도 모르고 서툰 신입에게 좋은 말이 나올리가 없죠. 제대로 업무를 가르친다기 보다는 사실상 감정 쓰레기통 역할을 수행하게 했습니다. 또한 실수를 해서 혼나는 건 당연하지만, 그 과정에서 사람 대 사람으로서 지켜야 할 선을 넘고, 비인격적이었다는 것도 문제였구요. 윽박지름, 비꼬기, 앞담화는 기본이고 책임 떠넘기기, 실수 뒤집어 씌우기, 이간질, 인격모독, 부모님 흉까지도 당했습니다. 타부서 동기 말로는 신입만 타겟팅해서 괴롭히는 또라이들이 여기에 몇명 모여있다더군요. 울컥할 때도 많았지만 사회생활이 원래 이런건가 싶어 참았습니다. 여기로 발령받은 신입들이 왜 다들 그만뒀는지 이해가 가더라구요. 저도 어느 정도는 각오하고 있었기 때문에 아무리 외면하고 무던해지려 했지만, 마음에 생채기가 남는 건 어쩔 수 없었습니다. 그렇게 매일 나쁜 소리, 큰 소리를 듣다 보니까 긍정적인 기억, 사랑받은 기억들이 모두 뒤틀려서 애초에 그런 적이 없었던 인간 같이 느껴졌습니다. 자존심, 자존감 모두 바닥으로 내리쳤습니다. 체중이 11kg 빠졌고, 반복적으로 설사를 했습니다. 씻을 때마다 머리카락이 한 움큼씩 빠졌고, 한번은 자려고 누웠는데 갑자기 숨이 막혀 못 쉬다가 앉으니 겨우 숨길이 트인 적도 있었습니다. 출근길에 항상 차에 치이기를 기도했고, 원룸 계단을 내려가며 여기서 구를까 망설였습니다. 길에서 살인마를 마주쳐도 좋다고 생각했습니다. 출근할 때마다 오늘이 싫어서 울었고, 퇴근할 때마다 내일이 싫어서 울었습니다. 그래도 괜찮은 선배들도 계셨고, 부모님도 생각나고, 1년 경력이라도 만들자 싶어 배우고 공부하고 인내하고 버티다보니 왠만한 업무는 혼자 능숙한 처리가 가능해졌습니다. 갈굼도 여전하고, 살벌한 분위기였지만 과장님과 몇몇 선배들로부터 간혹 잘했다는 소리도 듣던 차였습니다. 하지만 10개월차에 사건이 터졌고, 텅빈 회의실에서 억울함과 서러움에 혼자 얼마나 울었는지 모릅니다. 한두시간 울고 있으니 지나가던 미화여사님이 토닥여주시더라구요. 더 눈물이 났습니다. 힘든 걸 알아주는 게 그동안 같이 일한 동료들이 아니라 몇 마디 안 나눠본 타인이라는 사실에요. 그 날로 지금까지 참고 억눌러온 모든 게 다 무너져내렸습니다. 다음날 과장님, 부장님도 안 거치고 바로 본부로 가서 모든 걸 말했습니다. 심각성을 인지한 본부장님이 언론, 정부기관, 협회, 노조에 고발하지 않겠다는 전제 하 당일 퇴사시켜주겠다고 했습니다. 어차피 녹음본 같은 증거도 없고 지쳐서.. 그낭 1초라도 빨리 내보내 달라고만 했습니다. 사회초년생이 감당하기엔 너무 힘든 일이었습니다. 올 2월부터 6월까지 약 4개월간, 극심한 우울감과 자괴감으로 방 밖으로 한발짝도 나가지 않았습니다. 웃음이 나오지 않았고, 음악도 듣기 싫었고, 친구들과의 연락도 피했습니다. 매일 머릿 속으로 자살을 시뮬레이션 돌렸고, 해가 져도 불도 켜지 않고 암흑 속에 그냥 가만히 있었습니다. 이러다 진짜 일 나겠다 싶어 정신과를 찾아가려다가 밖으로 나가는 것도 일이었기 때문에 포기했습니다. 그래도 12년 지기 친구와 부모님이 곁에서 지지를 해주셨고, 반년정도 시간이 흐르니 괜찮아지더군요. 운동도 시작했고 도서관에서 공무원을 준비했습니다. 다시 성격도 예전처럼 활발해졌습니다. 사람 마음이 참 간사한게... 좀 진정되고나니 어느 순간부터 대학 동기들은 경력도 쌓고, 돈도 모으고 있는데 나만 도태되고 있다는 생각이 들더라구요. 불안과 조급함을 달래려 새 직장에 원서를 넣었습니다. 토익이며 자격증이며 다 만료됐고, 경력도 없으며, 인적성검사와 면접 전부 말아먹어서 광탈이라고 생각했으나 얼마 전 최종합격 해버렸습니다. 그렇게 다시 실무로 돌아가야 한다는게 현실로 닥치니.. 전 직장에서의 일들이 다시 떠올랐습니다. 이 분야의 분위기가 어디나 다 비슷하다보니 그 모든 게 반복될까봐 무섭고 겁이 납니다. 들었던 모진 말들이 다시 생각나고, 업무를 할 때의 중압감과 스트레스도 생각나고... 최근엔 한동안 꾸지 않던 악몽을 다시 꾸기 시작했습니다. 한 편으론 이번엔 다를 수 있고, 잘 풀릴지도 모른다란 희망을 품지만, 다른 한 편으론 상처로 힘들어할 제 모습이 떠오르고 반복될까봐 두렵습니다. 또, 결국 그만두었을 때 잃어버릴 시간과 수고가 아깝기도 합니다. 일단은 공무원 시험을 준비하고 있기 때문입니다. (공부 2개월만에 쳤던 시험에선 3과목 중 2과목은 거의 만점 받았고, 1과목은 반타작 했습니다.) 홍차넷엔 저보다 더 오래 사셨고, 사회생활을 하신 인생선배님들이 많이 계시기에 조언을 구합니다. 용기를 갖고 한 번 더 도전해볼 것인지, 아니면 미래를 보고 공무원을 계속 준비할 것인지. 글솜씨가 부족해 두서가 없지만 긴 글 읽어주시고 잠깐이라도 고민해 주셔서 감사합니다. 뭔가 좀 그 본부장이라는 사람이랑이 개념이 덜찬 애들이 아닐까 싶습니다.
