GE 가전부문은 GE의 마크가 주는 인상적인 모습을 제외하면 개인적인 사용경험은 20년 전부터 제품개발이 멈춘 느낌을 주는 가전회사였습니다. 높지 않은 에너지 효율과 단단하고 무거운 제품들이 대부분이였고, 고가품인 빌트인이 아닌 다른 제품들은 그냥 계속 만들어 왔으니까 계속 만든다는 느낌이였고, LG에서 OEM으로 제작을 많이 하기도 했습니다. 마치 과거 IBM이 PC 사업을 레노보에게 넘기는 모습이 연상되는 것과 비슷합니다. 과거 IBM PC사업을 LG에게 넘기려고 하다가 LG가 검토후 인수 하지 않기로 하고 그 이후 레노보에게 넘어간 것 처럼, GE의 가전사업도 일렉트로룩스와 삼성에게 인수여부를 계속 타진하였으나 결국은 하이얼에게 넘어갔습니다. 이로서 하이얼은 고급가전시장에 접근할 수 있는 기회를 가지게 되었습니다. 사족) LG는 돈이 없어서 GE를 인수할 기회조차 가지지 못했겠군요.
