저는 보수우파 성향의 20대 남성이고, 선거에서 쭉 보수우파를 찍어왔습니다. 전형적인 이남자, 이대남이지요. 첫 선거였던 14년 지선엔 박원순을 뽑긴 했지만(제 흑역사), 16년 총선에는 지역구로 새누리당을 뽑았고, 17년 대선엔 안철수, 18년 지선엔 광역/기초단체장 모두 자한당 계열, 20년 총선엔 지역구로 미통당, 21년 재보선엔 오세훈을 뽑았습니다. 첫 선거 빼곤 보수우파/비민주당 계열을 쭉 뽑아준 셈이죠. 대부분의 보수우파들이 그렇듯이 저는 문재인을 지지하지 않습니다. 부동산 정책 참사, 무모하고 독단적인 정책들, 포퓰리즘식 행보, 위선 등등... 흔히 제시되는 이유들이니 자세히 설명하진 않을께요. 저는 그럼에도 불구하고 야권진영, 보수우파 진영과는 감정적인 거리를 느낍니다. 이명박-박근혜 시절에는 그러진 않았는데, 박근혜 탄핵 이후부터 야권, 보수우파 진영과 거리를 두기 시작했습니다. 벌써 4년이 다 되어가는군요. 보수우파는 정치인들은 물론이고 칼럼리스트들, 커뮤니티들을 둘러봐도... 한숨이 나오기도 하고, 나는 저들과 다르고 가까이하고 싶지 않다는 생각도 들고.. 나도 문재인 더민당이 싫지만, 얘들이 정녕 여권의 상대가 될 수 있을까?하는 의구심만 자꾸 들었습니다. 선거는 전략적으로 하기 때문에 개표소에선 내킴없이 보수우파를 뽑지만, 이런 후보들을 뽑아야 하는 감정적 불편함은 분명 있었습니다. 설명하기 힘든 불편함은 왜 생겼을지 고민해보다가, 현재 보수우파 진영에 내재한 치명적인 결함 때문이라는 결론에 도달했습니다. 보수우파 성향의 정치인들은 말할 것도 없고, 칼럼리스트나 지식인들, 더 나아가 인터넷 커뮤니티 분위기와 지지자들까지 공유하는 문제입니다. 물론 진보좌파 진영도 문제가 많긴 합니다. 하지만 적어도 보수우파들이 가진 방식의 문제는 아니고, 국민의 인기를 끌어 당선되기엔 덜 문제되는 방식입니다. 제가 독서를 좋아하고 대학원생 신분이다 보니, 진보좌파 정치인들, 칼럼리스트와 지식인들의 서적과 칼럼들을 많이 접합니다. 외신언론들도 종종 접하고요. 거기에 우연찮게 지적인 활동하는 곳에서 진보좌파 온오프분들과도 몇 명 알게 되었고요. 그들이 하는 이야기를 들어보니... 보수우파들은 얘들을 못 이기겠구나. 뼈를 깎는 노력 없이는 민주당이 계속 집권하겠구나 하는 답답함만 들었습니다. 야권 진영엔 크게 세 가지 치명적인 결함이 있습니다. 1. 지나친 네거티브, 안티테제적 성격 사실 한국에서 야권세력이 네거티브, 안티테제에 몰두하는 건 어제오늘 일이 아닙니다. 김대중-노무현 당시엔 조중동이 대통령과 민주당계 정치인들 향한 왜곡/편파보도를 일삼아 안티조선 운동이 활발했었고, 이명박-박근혜 시절엔 민주당계 지식인들과 네티즌들이 허구헌날 이명박 박근혜를 비판했습니다.. 제 기억으론 거의 숨 쉴 때마다 까는 수준이었어요. 보수우파로서 이 때 기억이 생생한데, 볼때마다 이명박-박근혜가 잘못한 건 있겠지만 이렇게 욕먹어야 하나?는 의구심만 잔뜩 들었습니다. 심지어 선거결과를 부정하는 극성들도 있었고(4.15 총선 부정선거 드립 이전에 김어준 K값이 있었죠), 툭하면 이명박근혜를 조심스레 비판한 해외언론 기사 가져와서, 세계가 이명박-박근혜를 외면하고 우리 민주당의 편을 들어준 것처럼 몰고가는 자의식 과잉을 보이기도 했습니다. 문제는 이들은 오바해서 정부를 계속 까댈 뿐, 제대로 된 대안을 제시하지 못했다는 거죠. 현실분석은 지금보면 헛웃음만 나오는 주장들 투성이고, (최저임금이 너무 낮다, (박근혜 정부 시절의) 집값이 너무 비싸며 투기꾼들 때문이다, 한국은 선진국이 아니며 (밑도 끝도 없이) 헬조선이다 등등.... 이런 지식인들의 주장과 인터넷 여론에 기가 막혔는데, 이제라도 인정받게 되니 다행입니다.) 이명박근혜의 신자유주의 정책 비판한답시고 이상한 대안이론들 막 가져오고 저는 문재인 정권의 정책참사들은, 상대편이 최순실 게이트로 몰락해서 집권했는데 제대로 된 대안 없이 이명박근혜 까댄 관성에 기대왔던 게 크다고 봅니다. 심지어 진보좌파들도 온건파는 점차 진보좌파 진영의 히스테릭함과 대안능력 부재를 인정하는 분위기였고, 박근혜 정부 시절 한 진보 노동사회학자는 이렇게 한탄한 바 있습니다. "보수가 어쨌거나 큰 그림을 그린다면, 진보는 거기에 댓글을 달고 있다" 박근혜 정부의 행보에 극렬하게 반대했을 뿐, 그걸 넘어설 대안을 창출하지 못하는 당시 한국 진보의 역량부족을 잘 묘사했지요. 지금은 거꾸로입니다. 문재인과 민주당이 여러 행보를 보이고, 국힘당 계열은 그 행보를 밑도 끝도 없이 까댈 뿐입니다. 문재인 정부가 (문제가 정말 많긴 해도) 어쨌거나 큰 그림을 그린다면, 보수는 거기에 댓글을 달고 있습니다. 보수우파로서 이명박근혜 시절 진보좌파들의 무조건적 안티질에 기가 막혔는데 그걸 보수우파가 방향만 바꿔 반복하니 황당하기만 할 뿐입니다. 이러고서 니들이 진보좌파진영을 비웃을 자격은 있는지.... 문재인 정부가 많은 잘못을 저질렀고, 그 부분에 대한 지적은 입이 백개라도 할 말이 없습니다. 하지만 그렇다고 아무렇게나 비난하면 안 됩니다. 적어도 일반인이 보기에 이상하면 안 되고, 설득력이 있어야 하며, 대안적인 어젠다가 있어야 합니다. 그게 안 되니 대선이 1년 남은 지금도 '주 120시간 일하고 연달아 쉴 자유' '대구 아니면 민란났다'같은 황당한 소리가 반복되는 거죠. 문재인 지지율이 이례적으로 높은 걸 지붕 위 닭 쳐다보듯 지켜볼 뿐이고. 대안은 더더욱 없고요. 문재인은 그래도 코로나19 사태를 보고 느낀게 있는지 고용보험을 확대하고 상병수당을 제도화하려 시도합니다. 이재명 후보는 문제 많다고 하지만 '기본소득'이라는 어젠다를 어쨌든 내놓긴 했지요. 근데 야당에 그 정도의 어젠다와 정책들을 찾아볼 수 있나요? 그저 정부 깔 뿐입니다. 중도층은 이렇게 비판만 하고 어젠다와 정책을 내놓지 않은 정치인엔 비판적입니다. 그래서 07년도 선거엔 이명박이, 12년도 선거에 박근혜가 당선됐고, 17년도 선거에 문재인이 당선된 거지요. (박근혜 탄핵 이후 문재인 포위공격이 이어지면서 적폐청산을 내세운 문재인이 그나마 어젠다를 내세운게 되었습니다) 이런 행태를 반복하면 운 좋게 정권 탈환해도 많은 사람들을 실망시킬 겁니다. 지금 문재인 정부가 그렇듯. 2. 국제적 시야와 시대적 통찰력 부족 느끼신 분들이 많겠지만 몇년새 세계질서가 크게 바뀌었다고 생각합니다. 서구 선진국들의 포퓰리즘 유행, 다극체제화되는 국제정세, 한국의 향상된 세계적 위상, 코로나19와 기후위기로 불거진 새로운 세계질서의 필요성. 기존 경제시스템에 대한 반성. 차별과 혐오에 대한 민감해진 감수성(과 그에 대한 반발) 거의 몇십년에 한번 있을까말까 한 수준의 대전환이지요. 현재 한국 위상과 국제정세 변화가 한국에 미칠 영향을 생각하면 정치권은 이 흐름을 받아들이고 어젠다로 내놔야 합니다. 민주당 계열의 정치인, 지식인들, 커뮤니티는 위 문제들을 최소한 인지하고 있습니다. 해외 소식을 외신이든 책이든 논문이든 해서 가져오는 사람들이 많고, 그걸 바탕으로 한국의 미래를 이야기하는 사람들을 많이 봅니다. 일개 좌파 유튜버진인 헬마우스가 시대변화를 지켜보며 『추월의 시대』같은 책들을 내놓고 그랬죠. 서울 일극집중의 시대에 동남권 메가시티론을 내세운 김경수(아쉽게도 구속...)도 있고. 디테일을 짜고 실행하는 과정에서 문제가 많고 종종 답답하긴 한데, 세계적인 분위기가 이렇다 정도는 알고 있다는 느낌이에요. 그런데 지금 보수우파 정치인과 칼럼리스트, 커뮤니티가 이 주제들에 얼마나 관심을 가지고 있나요? 아니 관심이 없는 걸 넘어, 아예 국제적 시야와 시대적 통찰력이 없는 건 아닌가 싶어요. 역량은 더더욱 없고. 관심이 있어도 '문재인 정부를 까기 좋은' 소재만 '선택해서' 가져온다는 인상이고. 기후위기에 대한 큰 관심은 없는데, 기후위기 방지를 위한 원전의 필요성을 가져와 문재인 탈원전정책 비판하는 건 속보이죠. 적어도 이명박근혜 시절엔 거꾸로 보수우파들이 훌륭한 통찰력과 시야를 보였습니다. 금융위기를 성공적으로 극복했고(묘하게도 문재인은 코로나 위기를 잘 극복했으니 대칭이 되네요), 4대개혁 어젠다를 내놓으려 시도했었고 세련된 이미지 관리하려 무조건적인 반공주의와 민족주의와는 거리를 뒀고, 한국 최초 다문화의원인 이자스민도 영입했었습니다. 여의도연구소의 귀신같은 적중력은 말할 것도 없고. 그래서 민주당 지지자들도 조심스럽게 '새누리당 무시하지 마라. 여의도연구소 저력 대단하다'는 소리를 내뱉어야만 했죠. 지금은 거꾸로가 됐죠. 전 옛날 보수우파들의 저력이 너무 그립습니다. 위 문제를 특히 느꼈던 게 코로나19 정국에 대한 토론인데, 진보좌파들과 보수우파가 방역에 대해 말하는 걸 비교해보면, 디테일함은 보수우파가 정확한 때도 있었지만(백신 도입 지연, 방역보상 부족 등) 어거지스러운 비판도 워낙 많았는데 (스웨덴 방역 찬양, 무조건적인 거리두기 정책 비판, 확진자가 늘어날 때마다 조건반사로 나오는 정부 비판, 백신에 대한 불신) 진보좌파는 똥볼도 좀 찼지만(백신 빨리 도입할 필요 없다 등), 세계 코로나19 트렌드를 잘 안다 싶은 인상을 받을 때가 많았고, 무엇보다 '방역 잘한건 팩트 아니냐'는 큰 틀은 제대로 잡았습니다. 덕분에 전세계의 수많은 언론들과 논문이 진보좌파들의 주장을 증명하고 말았습니다. 굳이 구도화하면 "방역에 성공한 한국" vs "따지고보면 문제투성이인 한국 방역"인데, 이 둘을 맞는 부분만 와서 통합해도 "따지고보면 문제가 제법 있지만 그래도 전체적으로는 방역에 성공한 한국"이라는 진보좌파의 어젠다에 가까운 결론이 나오거든요. 세계적인 시야는 좁고 미래지향성이 약한 정치권이 정권을 되찾을 자격이 있나싶은 생각까지 듭니다. 지금 야권진영이 제시하는 정책들은 여권 정치인들에 비해 너무 스케일이 작아요. 문정부 적폐 청산, 재정균형, 국민연금, 안티페미와 공정....? 대부분은 필요한 정책이긴 한데... 뭣이 중헌디? 뭣이 중하냐고? 하는 곡성의 명구가 자꾸 귓가를 스칩니다. 지금은 위 정도의 정책들이 제1공약으로 나와도 될 한가한 시기가 아닙니다. 지금같은 시기에는 기본소득 급의 어젠다를 내세우고, 위 정책들은 더 뒤에 내세우는 게 맞습니다. 변화하는 시대에 맞는 큼직한 어젠다를 내세우는 건 정말 중요합니다. 3. 디시, 일베식 B급 감성의 부적절한 보편화 저는 디시, 일베식 B급 감성이 꼭 나쁘다고 생각하지는 않습니다. B급 감성의 커뮤니티는 인터넷 특성상 꼭 있기 마련이고, 하다못해 감정 배설소로나마 기능한다고 봐요. 아싸 찐따 성향이다 보니 저도 가끔 디시식 자학드립 즐깁니다. 혐오드립은 혐오하지만. B급 감수성이 인터넷 보수우파 커뮤니티 '전체'를 뒤덮고, B급 감수성 없이 편안하게 이야기를 할만한 보수우파 커뮤니티가 쫑났다는 데 있습니다. 디씨, 일베가 미친 가장 큰 해악은 보수우파 진영을 B급 감성으로 망친 데 있다 싶을 정도에요. 이 이미지는 문재인과 민주당 삽질과 별개로 벗어나기 정말 어려울 거에요. 물론 보수 커뮤니티 = 디시일베 공식은 헛소리가 맞고 악마화가 맞는데, 보수우파인 제가 보기에도 보수우파 커뮤니티들 돌아다니면서 기분 더러워질 때가 한두번이 아닙니다. 우파 유튜버들과 극성 정치인들은 말할 것도 없고. 알량한 팩트 운운, 무절제한 감정 배설, 글에서 느껴지는 낮은 자존감, 품위와 미적 감각 없음, 디스와 혐오정서, 냉소와 환멸로 가득한 세계관... 루리웹과 클리앙같은 진보좌파들 커뮤니티는 위 B급감성 문제가 덜한 편입니다. 그래서 그들 주장은 동의가 안 되거나 어이가 없긴 해도 기분이 더럽진 않습니다. 근데 박근혜정부 이후 펨코, 디씨, 엠팍같은 보수우파들 커뮤니티 가면 맞는 주장이어도 기분 더러워질 때가 한두번이 아니에요. B급감성도 잠깐 가끔이어야 재미있지, 계속해서 봐야하면 짜증나고 정신나갑니다. 예를 하나만 들자면, 박근혜 정부의 위안부 합의를 옹호할 때 이명박근혜 시절에는 "국제 규범이 있으며 국력 차이도 생각해야 한다. 이미 한 약속은 지켜야한다"고 했다면 문재인 시절에는 "문통이 반일국뽕코인에 미쳐서 위안부 문제로 감성팔이한다"같은 식이에요. 전자가 후자보다 훨씬 세련되고 보기 좋은 건 부정할 수 없는데, 요즘 보수우파들은 후자처럼 말할때가 너무 많습니다. 적어도 품위가 필요할 땐 품위가 있어야 하거든요. 기분 더러워질 일 없이 보수우파로서 정체성을 표출할 인터넷 공간이 필요한데, 그게 없어지니 저를 대변하는 공간이 사라진 것 같아 허무합니다. 그나마 지금 야권진영은 최악은 지났습니다. 김종인과 이준석의 노력 끝에 옛날처럼 되도 않던 극단적 언행만 나오던 시기는 지났습니다. 문재인 정부의 실정이 누적되면서 야권에서 제대로 된 정책비판도 약간씩 나오고있고요. 하지만 여전히 야권은 갈 길이 멉니다. 위 세 문제를 극복하지 않으면 집권하기 정말 어려울거고, 운 좋게 집권해도 국민에게 실망만 줄 거에요. 이제 대통령 선거는 불과 7개월 반 정도밖에 남지 않았습니다. 이재명이 되면 나라 망할 것 같다, 이민가야 한다는 걱정이 나오고 있고, 저도 걱정이 많이 됩니다. 그런데 이재명을 대선에서 떨어트리고 싶다면 야권이 매력을 올리는게 최선입니다. 그게 정식이에요. 상대측 정치인 때문에 나라가 망할 것 같으면 그럴수록 스스로를 되돌아봐야 합니다. 야권 진영이 더 믿음직한 모습이 되길 소망합니다. 지금처럼 성향이 일치하는데도 괴리감을 느끼는 일은 하루빨리 없어졌으면 해요.
