오버워치를 플레이해봤습니다. 전 예약 구매를 하지 않는 편이라서 오늘에서야 플레이를 시작해봤고, 기존 클로즈 베타 테스트에서도 참가해본 적이 없습니다. 그러니 오늘 플레이해보고 느낀 점만 간단히 써볼까 합니다. 2~3판만 뛰어도 오르는 플레이어의 레벨마다 전리품 상자를 제공하고, 전리품 상자는 게임 플레이에 영향을 주는 요소 없이 구성되었다는 점에서 거슬리지 않습니다. 그리고 계속해서 플레이에 대한 목적을 상기시켜줍니다. 또한 캐릭터들의 대사, 외형 같은 부분은 내가 좋아하는 캐릭터에 대한 탐구에도 영향을 미쳐서 훨씬 즐거운 게임이 되죠. 또한 FPS 장르는 캐릭터의 외형을 플레이어가 자주 볼 수 없어서 선호도가 떨어지는 부분이 있는데, 게임이 끝나고 하이라이트를 통해서 강조하기 때문에 좀 더 흥미를 유발합니다. 이건 좋았습니다. 그런데 게임을 고작 몇판 돌려본 시점에서 뻔히 보이는 게 있습니다. 특정 역할군에 플레이어가 몰리는 건 당연한건데, 거기에 대해선 아무런 고려도 되어 있지 않아요. 메르시나 루시우 같은 지원가 역할이 없으면 게임이 제대로 굴러가지 않지만, 그 누구도 하고 싶어하지 않죠. 재미없거든요. 누구나 쉽게 고를 공격군 역할의 캐릭터들만 화려하고 파고들 여지를 만들어두고, 왜 가장 지루한 역할군은 단순하게만 만들어놨는지 이해하기 어렵습니다. 계속해서 언급하겠지만, 오버워치는 특정 역할군이 없으면 제대로 된 플레이가 아예 성립되지 않는 게임이거든요. 또 짜증나는 부분은 게임을 불쾌하게 만드는 캐릭터들에 있습니다. 대표적인 예가 바스티온과 위도우메이커죠. 바스티온은 무슨 생각으로 만든 캐릭터인지 이해조차 되지 않습니다. 생각 없이 만들어져서 생각 없이 플레이하도록 유도하는 캐릭터입니다. 심지어 궁극기조차 짜증납니다. 그 긴 베타 테스트에서 뜯어고쳐야 한다는 피드백이 전혀 없었는지 신기할 지경이에요. 위도우메이커도 마찬가지입니다. 같은 회사의 콜 오브 듀티에서 매 해마다 캠핑 같은 수비 지향적인 플레이를 사장시키려고 애 쓰는데 뭘 배운건가 싶네요. 전 바스티온 같은 캐릭터는 아예 삭제해야 한다고 봐요. 게임을 망치는 주범이라 봅니다. 그리고 오버워치는 플레이하는 데 있어서 캐릭터 선택은 강제성을 줘야 한다고 봐요. 특정 역할군이 부족하면 제대로 된 플레이가 성립될 수 없는 게임입니다. 심지어 공격과 방어로 나뉘는 게임에서 특정 캐릭터들은 공격이나 수비에 동원하면 무쓸모해집니다. 레인보우 식스 시즈처럼 공격과 수비마다 고를 수 있는 캐릭터에 제한을 두거나, 좀 더 범용적일 수 있도록 캐릭터를 뜯어고쳐야 한다고 봐요. 이대로 가면 특정 맵에서 특정 캐릭터를 꺼내면 욕을 먹어야 하는 게임이 될 겁니다. 뿐만 아니라, 새로 게임을 접하는 플레이어를 위해서 능동적인 캐릭터 전환을 유도해야 합니다. 대부분의 초심자들은 게임이 끝날 때까지 캐릭터를 바꾸지 않아요. 그리곤 상성상 밀리는 캐릭터에 밀려서 아무 것도 못 해보고 지고 있습니다. 그걸 숙련된 플레이어가 수시로 조언해줄 수도 없고, 따른다는 보장도 없습니다. 그렇다면 게임 내에서 팀의 구성에 대해서 계속해서 환기시켜주는 장치가 있어야 합니다. 제가 레벨 10을 넘길 때까지 대다수의 게임은 한쪽이 좀 더 능숙해서 압도적으로 이기는 게 대부분이었습니다. 이런건 이겨도 재미가 없어요. 거기다가 AAA급 타이틀의 가격으로 출시한 게임 주제에, 왜 당연히 있어야 할 요소들이 오픈 베타 시점까지 없는지 이해할 수 없습니다. 지금 오버워치에 있는 건 화물 운송, 거점 쟁탈, 거점 점령 모드 밖에 없습니다. 나머지 하나는 기존 모드를 섞었을 뿐이고요. AAA급 타이틀로 나와서 맵 12가지와 게임 모드 3~4가지가 전부라고요? 이 게임이 스타워즈 배틀프론트와 뭐가 다른지 의문이네요. 그래서 전 구매를 추천하지 않습니다. 블리자드는 왜 패키지 판매 정책을 고수했으면서, 만들다 만 게임을 출시하는지 모르겠습니다. 자기들 말로는 패키지 판매에 어울리는 게임이라서고 주장했는데, 실상은 얼리 억세스로 나온 게임처럼 보입니다. 거기다가 구매 유무와 상관 없이 플레이가 가능한 오픈 베타 테스트, 그것도 연휴인 상황에서 대전 검색 속도를 보면 정식 출시 이후에 만족할만한 유저 풀이 만들어질지도 회의적입니다.
