 1. 이 영화는 클로버 필드의 스핀오프 작품입니다. 세계관은 가져오되, 전작의 줄거리상 연관성은 없다 볼 수 있습니다. 전작 클로버 필드는 예고편부터 신비주의 전략을 펼치며 JJ 에이브람스가 괜찮은 각본가에서 기대되는 영화로 발돋움 시켜준 초기 작품중 하나 이기도 합니다. 그렇기 때문에 클로버필드2 에 대한 관심이 많았었는데, 무려 8년이나 뒤에 '클로버필드2' 가 아닌 '클로버필드 10번지' 라는 심히 떡밥스러운 JJ 에이브람스의 스핀오프 작품이 나오게 되었습니다. 촬영은 2014년에 끝났다고 들었지만, 제작사인 배드 로봇 프로덕션스 가 워낙 바빴을 것 을 생각하면.. (배드 로봇 프로덕션즈는 2008년 클로버 필드를 시작으로 스타트랙 시리즈, 슈퍼 에이트, 미션임파서블 시리즈, 스타워즈를 제작. 그 외에 로스트, 프린지 등등의 드라마도 제작하였습니다.) 후속작이 8년이나 걸린것도 이해가 가긴 합니다. 2. 제작자는 JJ 에이브람스 이지만 감독은 신인입니다. 댄 트랙턴버그 라는 감독인데, 게임 '포탈' 의 팬 무비를 만든 적이 있었습니다. 10분이 안되는 짧은 영상. 잘 만든지는 모르겠습니다. jj 에이브람스 감독이 워낙 덕후기질이 있는 감독으로 알려져 있는데 아마 신인 감독인 댄 트랙턴버그의 포탈 팬 영상을 보고 어느정도 호감을 사지 않았을까 추측해봅니다. 3. 순 제작비가 천 5백만달러 이지만 1억달러가 넘는 흥행을 일으키며 클로버 필드의 성공작인 스핀오프가 되었습니다. 우리나라는 약 340만명의 관객수를 동원하였습니다. 국내 평론가들은 대부분 7~8점을 주며 후속작에 대한 기대를 나타냈습니다. 메타크리틱에서는 76점, 유저스코어 7.9. 로튼토마토에서는 90%의 신선도와 83% 의 호감을 샀습니다. 이정도면 국내외 평단에선 아주 좋은 평가를 받았다고 볼 수 있겠습니다.  ---이하 스포일러가 있습니다. 4. 국내외 평단의 호평에도 저는 이 영화가 굉장히 불만족스럽습니다. 일단 이 영화는 크게 두 가지 스토리로 나눌 수 있습니다. 미셸이 하워드의 손에서 벗어나는 이야기. 그리고 바깥 세상에서 외계인가 마주쳐 각성하며 마무리 짓는 이야기 입니다. 처음 감금당하였을 때에서 '클로버필드 세계관' 을 이용하는 것은 딱 한 가지 입니다. 하워드가 미셸을 가두어 놓는 구실. 그정도 밖에 되지 않습니다. 이것은 사실 '외계인이 침공하여 자유의 여신상 머리가 날아다니는 클로버필드의 세계관' 이 아니더라도 대입 가능한 상황입니다. 정체모를 바이러스로 인한 좀비물 이라던지. 3차 대전이 터졌다던지. 방사능이 터져서 국가가 조취를 해야하는 상황이라던지. 어떠한 세계관을 가져다 놓아도 전혀 문제가 되지 않는 상황입니다. 그 증거는 미셸과 마주치는 한 여성을 통해서도 살펴볼 수 있습니다. 문을 열어달라는 여자가 점점 과격해지며 머리를 문에 마구 찧으며 변해가는 모습. 사실 이런 모습은 좀비물이나, 방사능오염 등의 세계관이 더 잘 어울리지 않나 싶습니다. 5. 한 가지 더 허술한 부분은 하워드의 멍청함(?) 이랄 수 있습니다. 애초에 벙커를 지을때 환기구를 왜 본인이 수리하지 못하는 곳에 설치하였는지 납득하기 어렵습니다. 그리고 환기구를 설치하는 곳에 HELP 가 거꾸로 써 있고 사진속 여자의 귀걸이가 또 하필 거기에 떨어져 있던것은 너무 허술한 도구가 아닌가 싶습니다. 차라리 하워드의 범죄행각이 발각되는 요소가 클로버필드 세계관에서 가져오는 것 이었다면 그럭저럭 납득을 할만합니다. 하지만 이러한 밀실물에서 밝혀지는 증거 수준은 분위기를 잘 이끌어오다 너무나 맥이 빠지는 수준의 허술함이었습니다. 6. 이 영화는 마치 허겁지겁 수십개의 회사에 써내는 자소서 같습니다. '히치콕의 영화' 들과 '악마의 씨' 를 참고하며 이 영화의 초반 분위기를 이끌어 내고 후반에서는 뒷통수를 치는 듯한 변칙을 준 것이 전부 입니다. 앞에서 자기소개 잘 꾸며놓고 후반부에는 '귀하의 회사에 뼈를 묻고 충성을 다하고 싶습니다' 라며 돌려막는 수준에 불과하다는 것이죠. 애초에 클로버 필드가 제작된 계기는 '로맨스 영화에 갑자기 괴수를 출현시키면 어떻게 될까?' 였습니다. JJ 에이브람스 다운 생각이었죠. 하지만 그것은 꽤나 히트를 쳤고 많은 사람들이 후속작을 기다렸습니다. 그리고 무려 8년이 지나 스핀오프 작품이 나왔고, 그런 작품은 전작과 줄거리와 크게 연관성이 없습니다. (스토리의 연관성이 아닌, 소재로서 이용된것은 후반부 뿐.) 이번 스핀오프 작품은 '밀실물에 갑자기 외계인이 출현하면 어떨까?' 수준의 영화에 지나지 않습니다. 7. 뭐 그렇다고 초반부 이야기가 엉망이라는 것은 아닙니다. 전작 클로버필드에서 느꼈던 매력이 영화의 세계관 쪽은 아니었던것 같아서 좀 고개가 갸우뚱해지더라구요. 영상이 재밌었던 작품이었는데. 굳이 이 이름을 빌려오지 말고 독립된 작품으로 가져오는게 낫지 않았나 싶네요. 적어도 rec는 망했더라도 후속작이라는게 납득은 갔더만!.
그것 말고도 이야기 얼개나 일관성에서 구멍이 많았나 보군요... 리뷰 잘 보고 갑니다!
