  위치: 코엑스 스타필드 층 (B1) 추천메뉴: 음....곰탕(특)? 유명한 곰탕집, 하동관입니다. 제 기억에 있는 하동관은 진짜 어릴 때 친척들과 같이 기다리고, 몇 분 후에 복작복작한 식탁(?)에 앉고 허겁지겁 먹고 나왔던 곳입니다. 맛있던 곳으로 기억은 하는데 꽤 오래전이라 느낌만 기억할 뿐이지요. 그 이후로는 여러 매체에서 말로만 들었지 직접 가본 적은 드문 곳이지요. 나이가 차고 코엑스를 학회 참여, 전시회 참여 때문에 드나들면서, 코엑스에도 하동관이 생겼다는 것을 최근에서야 알게되었습니다. 그래서 처음에 알자마자 '오늘 점심은 하동관이다.'라고 마음먹고 갔었습니다. 그 이후로 가끔씩 하동관을 들어갑니다. 자리에 앉고, 주문을 하고, 곰탕이 담겨진 큰 그릇을 받고, 이 과정이 약 3분도 걸리지 않습니다 (항상 들어갈 때마다 시계를 보면서 체크합니다.). 그리고 저는 메뉴판과 나온 음식을 보면서 마음을 잡곤 합니다. '아 XX 열심히 살아야지, 돈을 함부로 쓰지 말자, 시간을 소중히 하자.' 이전 Beer inside님의 '하동관은 곰탕이 조선시대의 패스트푸드라는 것을 잘 알려주는 식당입니다' 라는 말에 백번 공감합니다. 처음에는 뭣도 모르고 보통을 시켰었는데, 저는 그게 다 나온 것인 줄 몰랐습니다. 그래서 그릇이 나온 후에도 한 10여분을 기다렸는데 더 이상 오는 것이 없자 주위를 둘러보고 '이 이게 끝이구나.' 라고 깨닫고 숟가락으로 퍼먹기 시작했습니다. 그리고 그 가성비에 경악을 하며 (고기 세 점이 올라간 밥 말아진 곰탕국물) 하동관을 빠져나왔더랍니다. 이후 가끔씩 주위에 어쩌다 하동관 이야기가 나오면 저의 부정적인 평가를 어필하곤 하는데, 한 번은 '하동관은 특으로 시켜야지'라는 조언(?)을 들었고 이번에는 특으로 시키리라 마음먹었습니다. 이번달에는 그래서 특으로 시켰습니다. 역시 거진 3분 (이번에는 2분 20여초)안에 나왔고, 특의 차이점은 여러 고기가 더 얹혀나온다는 것이라는 걸 알았습니다. 국물은 보통과 다르지 않은 것 같아요. 얹혀진 고기는 맛없다, 질기다라고 말하긴 그렇고 맛있는 국에 있는 고기 딱 이정도라고 생각합니다. 물론 곰탕의 국물 맛은 인정해요. 그렇다고 '이 가격의 값어치를 하는가'에 대해 제 생각은 회의적으로 기웁니다. 몇 분만에 식사를 마치고 점점 밀려오는 손님들을 보면서, 카드로 결제하는데 '잔액이 부족한데요?'라고 말을 듣는 제 자신을 생각하면서 다시 한 번 마음을 다잡았던 그런 하동관이었습니다. (사족: 그런데 코엑스 식당은 다 너무 비싸요... 그리고 코엑스 끝자락에 누구나 이용할 수 있는 직원식당이 있어요. 맛은 주변 상권을 배려한 맛이고요.)
