작년에 비하면 싱거웠던 여름이 가고 천고마비의 계절이 돌아왔습니다. 다만 대부분의 현대인들에게 사실 말이야 살이 찌건 말건 상관이 없으실테고, 중요한건 여름동안 덥다는 핑계로 많이 먹고 안 움직여서 찐 내 살이 문제죠! 주위에도 다이어트를 시작하는분들이 많고, 다이어트가 아니여도 연초만큼은 아니지만 그래도 개강시즌 기념으로 뭔가 새로운 기분으로 이런 저런 새로운 목표를 위한 첫 걸음을 내딛는분들이 많은데 그 분들에게 조금이나마 도움이 되고자, 제가 스스로가 달라져야겠다고 느낄때 사용했던 간단한 방법을 공유하고자 합니다. 제가 대단한 사람도 아니고 또 사실 이러한 방법론은 마땅한 정답보다는 개인차가 큰 부분이긴 하지만, 가져다 쓰실 부분은 쓰고 또 저렇게는 하지 말아야 하는 부분은 또 반면교사로 삼으셔서 좋은 결과를 내시길 바랍니다 ^^ 첫번째 걸음. 여태까지의 나를 있는 그대로 받아들이고 예뻐해주기 - 삶은 Birth와 Death사이의 Choice라는 말이 있죠. 사람이 살면서 행하는 일은 아주 간단한 것이라도 모두 선택입니다. 이 글 보면서 지금 숨 쉬고 계시죠? 그것도 어떻게 보면 계속 살아있겠다는 당신의 선택이 반영된 행위라고 할 수 있죠. 제가 롤 한판 하거나 내일 업무를 미리 좀 보는 대신 이 글을 쓰는것도 역시 선택이고요,. '현재의 나'는 내가 여태까지 내렸던 수많은 선택들의 결과가 만들어낸 결과물입니다. 만약 지금 내가 너무 살이 쪘다고 생각한다면, 운동을 안하는 선택과 살찌는 뭔가를 많이 먹은다는 선택들이 계속 중첩이 되었기 때문에 그렇게 된거에요. 물론 환경적 불가항력의 영향을 받습니다만, 운전대를 잡고 있던건 그래도 역시나 스스로입니다. 변화를 원하는 사람의 동기는, 보통 이런 '현재의 나' 에 대한 불만족에서 나옵니다. 아 성적이 너무 안 나와, 체력이 너무 약해, 혹은 살이 너무 쪄서 외모가 내 맘에 안들어, 등등, 이런것들이 달라지고 싶다는 마음을 불러 일으키죠. 그리고 여기에서, 그런 부정적 생각을 동기로 삼으려고 하거나, 그것을 권하는 사람들이 많습니다. 가령 '거울을 보세요 지금 밥이 입에 들어갑니까?' '오빠 ㅜㅜ 나 다이어트하게 돼지라고 욕 좀 해줘!!' 이런것들이죠. 물론 이것도 잘 써먹으면 변화의 원동력이 되는데, 저는 그렇게까지 추천하지 않아요. 왜냐면 무언가를 싫어하는것은 그 자체로 스트레스를 유발하는데, 그 대상이 자기 자신이 되면 스트레스가 두배가 되고, 싫어하는것이 현재 당장 존재하면 또 두배가 되거든요. 즉 '현재의 나' 를 싫어하는것은 4배의 스트레스를 유발합니다. 어마어마하죠. 사람이 스트레스를 제어하는데는 리소스가 필요합니다. 근데 변화에도 역시 리소스가 필요해요. 즉 나를 싫어하는것을 동기로 삼는다는건, 동기에다가 변화에 직접 사용할 리소스를 어느정도 분배하는 행위라고 할 수 있어요. 아무래도 비효율적이죠. 제가 추천하는 방법은, 그냥 지금의 나를 받아들이는거에요. 지금의 불만족스러운 '현재의 나' 가 있기 까지의 선택이, 나에게 나쁜점만을 가져다주진 않았을거에요 .분명히 누린게 있었을겁니다. 잘 생각해보세요. [담배를 하루 1갑씩 펴서 건강이 나빠졌어요 ㅜㅜ] -> 하지만 식후땡으로 스트레스 많이 풀었죠? 잘하셨습니다. [맨날 야식 먹어서 살쪘어요 ㅜㅜ] -> 하지만 야식 먹는동안 행복했고 많은 별미를 맛봐서 좋았고 기분좋게 잘 수 있었죠? 잘하셨습니다. [공부 안하고 친구랑 맨날 놀아서 성적이 망했어요] -> 하지만 친구가 많아져서 인간관계 풍성해지고 잘 놀아서 지금 정신이 건강하죠? 잘하셨습니다. 보세요 분명히 얻은게 있습니다. 저거 다 안했으면 폐는 건강하고 몸매는 날씬하고 성적은 잘 나왔을지도 모르죠. 근데 분명히 반대급부로 지금 내가 지금 가지고 있는 무언가 좋은것을 잃었을겁니다. 장담 할 수 있어요. 마냥 틀린 선택을 마냥 하는 사람은 세상에 잘 없습니다. 그게 하필 이 글을 읽는 당신일 확률? 아예 없다고 장담합니다. 스스로의 선택을 인정하고 받아들이고, 그럼에도 불구하고 이젠 나는 지금까지와는 달라지고 싶다. 정도면 충분합니다. 지금 내게 필요한것은 어디까지나 '변화' 일뿐이에요. 갱생이 아니라요. 달라지기 위해서 먼저 '현재의 나' 의 손을 잡아주세요. 두번째 걸음. 달라진 나를 상상하기 '현재의 나' 를 똑바로 바라보고 그 손을 잡으셨나요? 그럼 이제 그 친구를 데리고 어디로 가야할지를 생각해봅시다. 위에서 조금 부족했던 동기부여를 채우고, 또 정확히 내가 뭘 원하는지를 바로 알기 위한 프로세스가 되겠죠. 목표가 다이어트라면 내가 지금 살이 쪄서 못하고 있는것들을 생각해보세요. 여친이랑 같이 워터파크 같이 가기. 일단 여친이 없다면 여친 사귀기가 되겠네요. 시험 공부를 하는거라면 시험에 붙은 자신을 상상하면 됩니다. 월급 통장에 따박따박 찍히는 월급, 하나둘씩 들어오는 영앤리치 킹카들과의 소개팅. 담배를 끊는거라면 좋아진 건강 검진 결과라던가 ㅋㅋㅋ 이런것들이요 위와 달리 크게 설명할 내용은 없지만, 중요한것 한가지가 있습니다. 바로 순서에요. 반드시 나 자신을 먼저 이해하고 예뻐해주고 손을 잡아주는것이 먼저가 되어야 합니다. 그 과정을 거치지 않고 먼저 달라진 나를 상상하다보면, 자연스레 '현재의 나'와 비교하게 되고, 미움과 불만족이 먼저 쌓이게 되거든요. 그럼 스트레스를 받게 되고, 리소스가 소모됩니다. 그래서는 안되잖아요. 지금 여러분이 생각한 목표는, 그것을 세운 시점에서 이미 충분히 이룰 수 있는 목표일거에요. 우리 모두 똑똑한 사람들이잖아요. '2년안에 로또 1등 당첨되기,' '브래드 피트랑 결혼하기' 이런 목표 잡으신분들 없잖아요. 만약 계시면 그 분들은 지금 뒤로가기 누르시고 이 글 볼 시간에 로또 사시고 환생을 위해 기도 한번 더 하시길 바랍니다. 물론 어디까지나 "더 시크릿" 같은, 생각하면 이뤄진다는 유사과학을 얘기하는것은 아닙니다. 생각만으로는 아무것도 변하지 않고, 생각을 하지 않아도 사실 행동을 하면 달라질 수 있기에 생각보다는 행동이 더 중요하다. 맞는 말이에요. 그러나 행동이 모터를 돌려서 바퀴를 굴려 차가 움직이는 부분이라면 생각은 네비게이션에서 목적지를 설정해주는 기능을 합니다. 네비를 아무데나 찍어도 엑셀만 밟으면 차는 어디로든 가지만, 그 종착지가 내가 원하는곳일 확률이 없는것은 역시 마찬가지입니다. 무언가를 갖고 싶다면, 일단 원하세요. 그것이 모든것의 시작입니다. 세번째 걸음. 행동을 바꾸기 손을 잡고, 어디로 걸어갈지 정했다면, 이제 남은것은 하나뿐입니다. 그저 걷기만 하면 됩니다. 위에서 열심히 생각하라고 해놓고 죄송하지만, 이제부터는 사실 너무 많이 생각할 필요가 없어요. 어디로 갈지 충분히 고민했다면. 내가 해야 할 이제 그저 마음을 비우고 걷는것뿐입니다. 특히 변화의 시작단계에서는 절대로 당장의 수치적 목표에 집착하지 마세요. 식단 조절 첫날부터 오늘 무조건 1500kcal만 먹어야지! 이런 생각 하실 필요 없어요. 1500kcal 먹나 1600kcal 먹나 거기서 거기에요. 내가 평소에 2500kcal 먹고 있었다면 어차피 100kcal 정도 더 먹었어도 당신은 성공한거에요. 위에서 얘기한 '선택' 의 문제로 접근해볼까요. 수치적 목표를 잡고 실천하는것은 다음과 같은 장, 단점이 있어요.
