http://news.kmib.co.kr/article/view.asp?arcid=0013061813 제국주의 시대 유럽에게 아프리카는 자원 수탈과 노예 획득의 장이었습니다. 그렇게 착취당하면서도 원주민이 하나의 힘으로 연대하여 저항하지 못했던 이유는 부족 간 갈등 때문이었습니다. 물론 그 갈등은 유럽인들이 조장한 것이죠. 이렇게 외부로 향해야 할 힘을 자신들 간의 갈등에 쏟으며, 아프리카의 여러 지역은 아직도 절대빈곤을 벗어나지 못하고 있습니다. 이런 식의 분할통치(divide and rule)는 제국주의 시대 이후 기득권 층의 권력 유지 수단으로 광범위하게 이용됩니다. 지금, 이 땅에서도 마찬가지입니다. 노동자 내 계층화 등도 있습니다만, 무엇보다 눈에 띄는 동시에 효과적으로 작동하고 있는 것은 젠더 갈등 조장입니다. 분할 통치는 당연하게도 '분할'에서 시작됩니다. 유럽인이 침략하기 전에도 아프리카에 부족 개념은 존재했지만, 식민화 이후와 같이 극심한 갈등으로 전이되지는 않았습니다. 유럽인이 각 부족에게 새로운 정체성을 덧칠했고, 그렇게 자신과 주변 부족의 '새로운 정체성'에 눈 뜨게 되면서 부족 의식이 배타성을 띄게 된 것입니다. (후투족과 투치족의 사례가 유명합니다.) 남성과 여성이라는 구분도 당연히 새로운 것은 아닙니다. (물론, 남/여로 이분법적으로 나누기에는 더 복잡한 젠더에 대한 구분법이 필요합니다만, 이 글의 논점에서는 다루고 있지 않기 때문에 언급하지 않습니다) 그리고 남, 여 간의 갈등도 몇천 년 전부터 자연스럽게 존재했을 겁니다. 그런데 요즘 온라인을 중심으로 보이는 남/여 갈등은 인위적으로 형성된 것 같은 위화감을 불러일으킵니다. 남성과 여성에게 자신도 미처 알지 못했던 정체성을 끄집어내 강조해주고, 상대 성별의 사람들의 정체성 또한 새로운 모습으로 재구성하여 전시하고 있다는 생각이 듭니다. 첫 줄에 링크한 기사가 그렇습니다. 먼저 저 기사는 근본적으로 보도하지 않았어야 할 내용입니다. 거대한 군납비리도 아니고, 구조적이고 제도적인 문제도 아니며, 보도를 통해 달성할 수 있는 공익적 목적도 미미합니다. 이 사안이야 말로 ‘개인의 일탈’이고 공론화해봐야 무가치한 조리돌림이나 야기할 뿐이죠. 게다가 현재로서는 아직 일방적인 주장에 불과한 내용입니다. 백번 양보해서 보도할 가치가 있다고 하더라도 판결 이후에 해야죠. 그럼에도 굳이 저런 기사를 쓰는 것은 사건을 통해 끼워팔고 싶은 자신의 생각들이 있기 때문일 겁니다. 먼저, 기사는 버르장머리 없는 짓을 저지른 장교가 여성이라는 사실을 너무나 보이고 싶어합니다. 제목부터 女가 등장하고 기사 내용에서도 여성 장교, 여군 대위, 여군 장교라는 불필요한 수식을 반복하고 있습니다. 여성이라는 점을 강조하려는 욕구는 스스로 ‘기사와 무관’하다고 적어놓은 치마입은 사진에서 정점을 찍습니다. 또한 피해자라고 주장하는 부사관의 경우에도 남성이라는 점을 부각하려고 합니다. 그런데 부사관에게 맡기고자하는 역할은 단지 남성뿐이 아닙니다. 제목에서부터 드러나듯이 기사는 피해자에게 ‘아버지’라는 캐릭터를 만들어주려고 부단히 노력합니다. 민간 기업에 근무하다 부사관으로 재입대하여 나이 어린 상관에게 괴롭힘을 당하면서도 힘들게 밥벌이를 이어나가는 가장의 모습은 거의 클리셰처럼 보일 지경입니다. 이를 위해 두 사건 당사자의 나이 차이도 강조하고 있습니다. 20대 여군 장교와 40대 중사. 그런데 아버지뻘이라뇨. 대위는 최소 20대 후반이고 중사는 최대 45세 이하(계급 정년)입니다. 15살 차이 정도에 붙이기에는 아버지와 딸뻘이라는 수식은 좀 민망하지 않습니까. (여담이지만, 굳이 이 사건을 보도한다면 나이로 서열을 정하는 한국 사회의 문화와 계급으로 서열이 정해지는 군대 문화 사이의 모순 정도의 프레임이 적합했다고 봅니다.) 이런 유치한 역할극 조장으로 전하려는 인식은 분명합니다. 남성에 의한 성폭력 같은 건 옛날 얘기고(더이상 알 바 아니고), 요즘은 여성이 남성을 괴롭히는 사회다. (실제로 어떤 폭력이 더 광범위하게 발생하는지는 모두가 알고 있을 것입니다) 직장이든 군대든, 여성은 우대 받으며 ‘꿀 빨아서’ 어린 나이에 높은 지위에 오르고 남성은 상대적으로 불이익을 받으며 고생은 다 뒤집어쓴다. (현실은, 남성이든 여성이든 기득권층에게 착취당하며 티끌 같은 이권(사실은 모두에게 기본적으로 보장되어야 할 권리인 경우가 많죠)을 가지고 진흙탕 싸움을 벌이는 모습입니다.) 여성은 사회적 규범에 익숙하지 않아서 버릇없는 행동이나 관행에 어긋나는 비상식적인 행동을 종종 하므로 같이 ‘사회생활’하기 어려운 존재다. (군대 다녀온 분들은 대부분 겪어보셨을 겁니다. 연하 장교와 연상 부사관의 갈등. 게다가 우리는 아직 직업의 위계와 나이의 위계 중에 뭐가 우선하는지에 대해 사회적 합의에 이르지도 못한 상황입니다. 나이를 부풀려서 특정 성별에 투영하는 프레임은 비열합니다.) 아, 그런데 한참 쓰다보니, 사실은 아무 생각 없이 클릭수 잘 나올 것 같은 제목으로 우라까이 한 기사일 것 같다는 생각이..... 그냥 클릭수 잘나오는 기사를 쓴거라고 생각은 합니다만,
"남성에 의한 성폭력 같은 건 옛날 얘기고(더이상 알 바 아니고), 요즘은 여성이 남성을 괴롭히는 사회다."
-> 남성 일방에게 있던 권력/폭력이 양성으로 넘어가고 있다.
라고 생각하면 의미가 없지도 않다고 보입니다. 이수역 사건때 신선함(?)을 줬던 포인트중 하나도 그부분이었고, 꼭 남성의 폭력이 반 이하로 떨어져야 기사로 쓸수 있는것도 아니니까요.

라고 생각하면 의미가 없지도 않다고 보입니다. 이수역 사건때 신선함(?)을 줬던 포인트중 하나도 그부분이었고, 꼭 남성의 폭력이 반 이하로 떨어져야 기사로 쓸수 있는것도 아니니까요.
