저는 작년 8월에 피지알 운영진을 사퇴했었습니다. 운영진을 하면서 만족스럽지 않은 부분들이 있기에 사퇴하는 것이었지만, 사퇴시점에 무언가를 말하는 것 자체가 다르게 해석 될 수 있는 여지가 많고, 분위기를 흐릴 수 있을 것 같아서 짧은 인사만을 남기고 사퇴 했었습니다. http://pgr21.com/?b=8&n=53452&c=1974304 당시 저는 여러 생각이 있었습니다. 회원들과 실랑이 하면서 얻는 피곤함도 없지는 않았으나, 제 경우는 그것은 사퇴의 사유가 전혀 아니었구요. 제가 불만을 가졌던 부분은 두 가지였습니다. - 운영진들의 활동이 적고, 변화에 부정적이며, 운영편의적이다. - 운영진 무보수 원칙 때문에 결국 더 열심히 하고 싶어도 할 수 없는 한계가 있다. 저는 운영진 활동을 하면서 기존 운영진들에 대한 불만이 있었습니다. 물론 대부분의 운영진들이 오프라인에서 여러번 만난 사이였고, 지금도 만나면 반갑게 웃으며 이야기 할 수 있습니다. 하지만 운영진으로서의 활동에 대해서는 가지는 아쉬움들이 있었기 때문에, 운영진 게시판 내에서 불편한 이야기들을 자주 꺼내는 편이었지요. 항상 제가 옳은것은 아니었지만, 서로 기분이 좀 상하더라도 필요하다고 생각되는 의견들을 던졌고, 의견을 주고 받았습니다. 여러번 기회가 될 때마다 그런 의견 교환이 있었지만, 애초에 무보수 봉사직으로 일을 맡은 사람들이었기에 제 의견이 받아들여지지 않는다면 어쩔 수 없는 일이었습니다. 순수함을 지키고 문제를 만들지 않는 측면에서는 운영진의 무보수 봉사 원칙이 많은 장점이 있었다고 생각합니다. 반면, 그 원칙을 강하게 고수함으로서 운영진 활동을 열심히 해야 할 의무가 없으며 회원들에게 싫은 소리를 들을 이유가 없다는 자세를 갖게 하는 것은 무보수 봉사 원칙의 큰 단점이었다고 생각합니다. 물질적 보수가 주는 실질적 가치보다도 운영진이 열심히 해야 하는 당위성이 생겼으면 했고, 나 자신에게도 더 많은 시간을 할애하는 것을 걱정하지 않고 맘 편히 더 시간을 쓸 이유를 만들고 싶었습니다. 월 5만원 정도의 보수로도 충분히 더 책임감을 갖고 체계적으로 개발 할 수 있지 않을까 생각했습니다. (보수 금액에 대해서 까지는 다른 운영진들과 이야기 했던적은 없습니다. 보수 이야기를 꺼내기는 했으나 반대가 많았기 때문에 구체적인 얘기는 하지 않았거든요.) 피지알의 운영은 운영진 전체의 의견이 모아져야 진행 될 수 있기 때문에, 많이 느렸고 답답했습니다. 변화를 통해 장점과 단점이 모두 예상되는 경우, 저는 시범 적용을 통해 효과를 보고 판단하자는 쪽이었으나 반대에 부딪힌적이 많았습니다. 하지만 운영진으로서 회원들 앞에 나설 때는 운영진 전체의 입장을 대변해야 했기에 제 생각과는 조금 다른 이야기와 조치를 해야 할 때가 많았고, 그런 상황들에 대한 불만족스러움이 생길 수 밖에 없었지요. 하지만 저는 계속 커뮤니티 운영을 적극적으로 하고 싶었습니다. 저는 그걸 좋아하는 사람이기 때문입니다. 커뮤니티를 사용함에 있어 불편함을 해소하고, 시스템을 통해 좋은 문화를 만드는 것에 대해 보람을 느꼈습니다. 그래서 계속 잘 하고 싶었습니다. 고민 끝에 피지알이 아닌 다른 커뮤니티를 만들어야겠다는 생각을 했습니다. 그렇다면 운영진들의 의견을 모으는데 시간이 걸리고 설득해야하는 어려움도 없고, 내가 직접 시작한 커뮤니티라면 시간을 많이 쏟는 것에 대한 본전 생각없이 열심히 할 수 있을 것 같았습니다. 그래서 운영진 사퇴를 이야기 하고 준비했습니다. 미비한 시스템은 최소한 운영 할 수 있도록 보강해놓고, 몇가지 챙길 사항들에 대해서는 다른 운영진들에게 부탁드리고 나왔습니다. 운영의 많은 부분이 제게 집중되어있던 때이기도 했지만, 제가 없으면 돌아가지 않을 피지알이 되어서는 안되겠다는 생각도 들었고, 계속해서 다른 운영진들에게 불편한 이야기들을 꺼내 분위기를 흐리면서 활동을 계속할 것 까진 없다는 생각도 했습니다. 제가 없어지면 곧 다른 운영진들이 나서면서 운영공백이 아쉬운대로 채워지리라 기대했습니다. 한 동안은 새로운 커뮤니티를 만드는데 많은 노력을 쏟았습니다. 비타넷 사건도 기억하고 있고, 베스티즈를 튀어나간 인스티즈나 외커등의 사례들도 있고, 그 외에도 다양한 커뮤니티 분쟁사례들을 알고 있기에 피지알에 위해가 되는 행동은 하고 싶지 않았습니다. 그래서 피지알에는 제가 새로운 커뮤니티를 만든다는 사실을 알리지 않고, 새로운 커뮤니티를 만들기 위해 다양한 노력들을 했습니다. 나름 활발한 움직임이 있는 커뮤니티를 만드는데까지는 성공했으나, 지속하기 어려웠고 제가 원하는 분위기로 만들기도 갈길이 멀었습니다. 그 외 여러가지 어려움으로 새로 시작했던 커뮤니티는 다시 접게 되었습니다. 그 후는 다시 평범한 피지알 회원의 생활로 돌아오게 되었지요. 다른 회원분들이 지적하셨던 것 처럼, 피지알 공감 이전에 있었던 일들부터 그 이후에 있었던 다양한 일들이, 운영진이 나서서 잘 마무리 해줘야 할 일들임에도 불구하고 잘 진행되지 않았습니다. 저는 답답함이 있었지만, 운영진 그만 둔 마당에 나서서 말을 보태는 것이 자유롭진 않았기에 가능한 말을 아꼈습니다. 그래도 답답하면 할말은 하게 되더군요. 건의 게시판을 통해서, 댓글을 통해서 가끔씩 운영진에게 하고 싶은 말들이 튀어나가긴 했습니다. 최근의 상황들에 대해 운영진의 피드백이 없는 것은 심각하다는 생각이 들었습니다. 시간이 지나 이제는 피지알의 분위기가 다잡아지기 어렵겠다는 생각까지 미치자 이런 저런 많은 생각을 하게 되었고, 그러다 피지알의 분위기가 유지되어있는 대안적 공간을 만드는게 좋겠다는 생각을 하게 되어 준비를 시작했습니다. 홍차넷을 만든건 그런 이유에서 였습니다.
