'사회는 관계의 총화이다' 그리고, 상부구조는 하부구조에 의해 규정된다는 것을요. 여성이 정말로 남성을 규정하고 객관화 할 수 있는 '지위'를 획득했느냐에 대해, 이것을 알기 위해서는 여성이 갖는 토대가 과연 남성과 동등한 위치에 있느냐를 고려해 볼 필요가 있습니다. 왜냐하면 사회는 관계의 총화인데, 남성과 여성이라는 관계는 사회 전체적으로 불평등을 외부에 드러내기 때문입니다. 그렇다면 과연 사르트르가 이야기한 '객관화의 시선'이 실제로 실존적인 위치를 차지하고 있는가에 대해 회의적이 됩니다. 따라서 우린 여성이라는 실존이 갖는 토대가 남성보다 열악한 상태인 것은 아닌지를 고려할 필요가 있습니다. 동시에, 이 열악한 토대가 생산조건에 의해 (자본주의 내의 경제적 이유) 일어나는 문제인지 아니면 남성 중심적 이데올로기가 물적으로 전환된 것인지를 고민해야 할 것입니다. 아마도 둘 다 영향을 끼칠 것이라고 생각합니다만, 메갈리아는 남성 중심적 이데올로기를 핵심으로 두고 움직이는 모습을 보이는 것 같습니다. 그러니 거기에 집중해서 이야기를 진행하려 합니다. 메갈리아의 '미러링'전략은 사르트르의 '시선'과 정말 정확하게 일치합니다. 타자는 일자의 거울이며, 일자는 타자를 통해 객관화 되듯, 남성은 여성의 미러링 전략을 통해 자신들의 불평등을 발견할 수 있습니다. 그러나 동시에 '시선'은 폭력적이며, 따라서 그들이 불평등을 발견하는 사실이 존재한다 하여 그것이 남성 이데올로기에 대한 저항으로 이어진다고는 생각할 수 없습니다. 이는 맑스주의에서도 동시에 일어났던 실수이기도 합니다. 계급의 모순을 알면, 경제적 생산조건이 삶에 가장 큰 영향을 끼친다는 것을 안다면 프롤레타리아는 혁명을 하는게 당연하고, 그것이 곧 옳다는 것이요. 그러나 실제 현실사회에서 프롤레타리아는 동시에 민족이란 이데올로기를 갖고 있었고, 노동자들은 생산조건 이외의 것들로 인해 의사결정의 압력을 받았습니다. '국가' 라는게 바로 그 이데올로기 장치였죠. 사르트르는 변증법적 이성비판에서 이와 같은 고전적 맑시즘의 오류에 대해 '일차적이고 일반적인' 진리에서는 생산력과 생산관계 사이의 갈등으로 귀착하지만, 노동자 개별 주체는 그렇게 단순하게 체험되지 않으며 공장의 노동자는 생산집단의 압력을, 그리고 거주 지역의 압력 역시 받는 상태임을 이야기합니다. 즉, 단순히 모순이 옳은 지위만으로는 그 대상들을 총체화 시키는 것을 하나의 오류이자 폭력이라고 본 것이라 생각됩니다. 저는 어제 메갈리아의 외부적 토론을 보며 이 글을 써야겠다고 생각했습니다. 메갈리아의 가장 큰 전략과 화술은 현재 미러링이며, 이를 못 느끼는 사람들에 대해서 상당히 선민적으로 접근합니다. 실제로 그들의 발화에서 '여성주의를 모르니까 하는 소리다' 라거나, '공부좀 하고 오지 그러냐' 라거나, 혹은 '폭력적 방법은 소수의 권리이다' 같은 말들을 들었을 때, 저는 이게 분명히 맞는 사실이면서도 이것들을 함부로 이야기 해서는 안된다고 생각했습니다. 그리고 이런 말을 하는 사람들을 메갈에서는 '깨시민 한남충'같은 쪽으로 정의를 하는 것 같습니다. 지능이 부족해서 모르니까 그런소릴 한다거나, 언제 여성평등에 대해 관심이나 있고 이쪽 평등에 대해 구체적으로 뭘 해가면서 그런소릴 하냐는 주장은 정말 흔해졌습니다. 그러나 여성이 '진리적으로' 타자의 위치에 있다는 것은 사실이며 동시에 급진적입니다. 이는 매우 중요한 전략의 차이를 가져옵니다. 가령 역사를 변증법적으로 바라보는 시점에서 이를 파악한다면, 메갈리아가 발화하는 '젠더 이데올로기'에 대한 공격 전선은 아직 모순이 보편화되지 않은, 그러나 보편적이게 만들려고 하는 시도에 가깝습니다. 모순이 보편화 되었을때 갈등은 극대화되고 그것은 진보하거나 반동하는 방향으로 통합될 것입니다. 혹은 하나의 정체가 될 수도 있겠지요. 따라서 급진적 주장들은 그 '옳은 위치'를 갖는것은 당연하고, 동시에 이 갈등이 보편화 되어야 하는 실행적 역할을 수행해야하며 또한 그 이론의 지식효과가 '반동적'이지 않도록 주의할 필요가 있습니다. 마르크스의 자본론은 이러한 점에서 아주 좋은 예시가 될 수 있습니다. 자본론은 자본주의의 구조적 모순을 가장 과학적으로 지적한 저작입니다. 이것은 드러나지 않은 사회 모순을 보편적인 갈등으로 끌어올릴 수 있는 지식효과가 있었고, 이 저작 이후 많은 마르크스주의 연구자들은 현실의 노동자집단과 마르크스주의 이론을 토대로 사회 갈등을 새로운 사회로 넘어갈 대안을 마련하며 여러 방식으로 사회를 변혁해 나갔습니다. 그 과정은 폭력적이었지만, 동시에 보편을 얻기위한 하나의 포섭과정이기도 했습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 2015년의 시선으로 그 과정을 바라본다면, 고전적 마르크스주의는 비판을 피하기 어려운 점이 많습니다. 그로 인해 흘린 피는 대체 얼마였을까요? 그 피가 정말로 아깝지 않은 사회를 우리는 맞이했나요? 실제로 현실공산주의의 몰락과정과, 그것이 현실 정치에서 일어나는 것들을 너무 쉽게 경제적으로 치환하거나 과도한 총체화로 인해 실존적 개인을 상실했다는 후기 철학자들의 비판은 분명 일리가 있기 때문입니다. 그 '자본론'의 급진성 역시 이러한 결과로서 남겨져 있습니다. 권위에 의존하려 설명하고자 하는 의도는 아니었지만, 과연 메갈리안의 '젠더 이데올로기'를 공격하는 전략과 그 급진성은 자신들이 인지한 모순을 어떻게 해소하고 그 사회의 변화를 어떻게 바라보는 것일까요? '젠더'는 현대에 와서는 계급만큼이나 하나의 근본모순으로 존재합니다. 남녀가 불평등하단 것을 부정하는 사람은 이제 많지 않습니다. 다만 평등이 어떤것이냐에 대해 '호혜적으로 보상해주는'것이 좀 더 대중적 평등의 정의이고, '호혜는 평등이 아니다'라고 하는 것이 좀 더 급진적 의미의 정의입니다. 당연한 권리와, 그 권리를 억압하는 이데올로기로부터 자유를 외치는 것이 메갈리안이 갖는 큰 장점입니다. 그러나 동시에 메갈리안의 전략은 이러한 권리를 정의하는 현대 공화국의 정치를 무시하는 경향이 있습니다. 특히 메갈리안은 자신들의 폭력성을 여성 참정권 운동 시절의 폭력성과 비교를 하여 정당화 하기도 하였는데, 이는 '참정권'이 갖는 하나의 효과를 무시하는 부분이기도 합니다. 그것은 자신들이 옳은 지위를 갖고 있다는 점에 취한 자기만족에 가까워 보입니다. 왜냐하면, 참정권이 존재한다는것은 변화에 있어서 '급진성'을 제약받는 자기제약의 의미이기도 하기 때문입니다. 저는 시민으로서 거리의 민주주의가 확대되어야 한다고 주장하는 사람입니다. 그래서 시위의 폭력성이나 노조의 점거, 시민 불복종 운동들에 대해 현재의 법률이나 사회가 과도한 보수성을 드러낸다고 생각하지요. 그러나 그것은 개인 시민의 참정권이 제대로 기능하기 어려운 다양한 조건들이 존재하고, 자본을 가진 사람들의 이념전략이 기울어져있는 사회에서 가져야 할 마지막 권리에 가깝다고 생각합니다. 즉, 우리가 아무리 간접 민주주의를 통해 이 모순들을 극복하려해도 계속 악화일로를 걷는다면, 낭떠러지 앞에서 해 볼 수 있는 마지막 저항이라고요. 왜냐하면, 민주주의 하에서 폭력은 그 폭력의 이유가 보편적으로 대중화 되지 않은 상태에서는 고립을 낳고 반동을 낳을 가능성이 너무나 크기 때문입니다. 왜 옛날의 강성노조들이 점점 쇠파이프, 보도블록, 화염병, 죽창을 포기하고 왜 시민들이 돌 대신 촛불을 드는지. 주먹을 쓸 줄 몰라서, 힘을 쓸 줄 몰라서일까요? 민주정에서 절실한것은 우리가 마주한 모순이 보편성을 가져야 함을 그 동안의 경험으로 배웠기 때문이며, 이 보편이 곧 민주적으로 모순을 해결할 힘이 될 것임을 인정했기 때문입니다. 그래서 민주주의는 번거롭고, 불편하고, 짜증나지만 그 민주주의가 바로 우리의 권리를 보호할 유일한 힘임을 알기 때문입니다. 폭력이 정치를 해결한다는 것은 동시에, 우리가 폭력의 대상이 될 빌미를 제공하는 것이기 때문입니다. 그런데 여성운동은, 다른 사회운동에 비해 '이를 데 없이 빠른' 속도로 성공적인 진전을 거듭하고 있습니다. 물론 그 역사가 비교적 짧다는 점이 존재하지만 어쨌거나 여성운동은 '민주정 내'에서 그 지분을 확대하는데 성공하고 있습니다. 물론 그 성공이 '보수적'이라는 메갈리안의 입장에 대해 저는 전적으로 동의합니다. 그러나 그것은 급진 내에서 이뤄져야 할 발화입니다. 고전적 맑시즘이 현대에 힘을 못쓰는 이유중 하나도 바로 이러했던게 아닐까 싶습니다. 구조의 모순과 계급의 부당함을 배운 사람들에게 일반 노동자들의 실존적 태도란 답답함이고, 하나의 악화이고, 보수 이데올로기의 옹호효과이며, 자본주의의 재생산이었습니다. 따라서 그들은 계몽의 대상이었고 혁명의 주체였으며 '피흘려 나아가자'는 구호는 진리였습니다. 급진은 당연히 보편의 지위를 획득해야했죠. 그러나 개별 노동자 주체에게 있어서 그것은 '계급모순'만으로 해석되는 것은 아니었습니다. 그들은 부모였고, 국민이었으며, 자식이었고, 개인이었습니다. 이들을 옭아매는 '관계'는 단 하나의 모순이 아니었고, 이들의 의사결정은 '중층결정'에 의해 이뤄집니다. 고전적 맑시즘은 이걸 단순히 총체화 시키려 시도했고, 그 결과가 멈춘 맑시즘의 몰락이었습니다. 지금의 메갈리안은 어떻습니까? 자신들의 진리효과를, 자신들의 이데올로기 공격을 위해서라면 그들은 충분이 선민적이고, 충분히 계몽적이면서도 동시에 충분히 폭력적인 모습을 가감없이 드러내고 있습니다. 인터넷 강사나 웹툰 작가에게 사이버 테러를 진행하고, 대중에게 지능문제를 거론하며 무시를 일삼습니다. 그러나 이 평등의 문제가 민주정에서 영원한 '정치'의 문제인 이상, 그들은 그 급진성을 보편화 시킬 의무가 있습니다. 그리고 그 급진성은 절대 혐오의 정치로 보편화 되지 않습니다. 왜냐면, 타자의 시선은 그것만으로도 일자의 주체의식을 빼앗아가는 효과가 있는데 그것이 폭력적일경우 이는 곧 일자의 부정으로 이어지기 때문입니다. 어떠한 존재도 그 실존을 위협하는 시선 앞에서 쉽게 자유로워지지 못합니다. 평소 여성주의의 감수성이 뛰어난 이들은 그래도 찰떡같이 알아듣습니다. 지금의 메갈처럼해도 아무 문제 없이 포섭됩니다. 그러나 보편은 그런 이들을 포섭하는게 아닙니다. 저는 메갈리안들에게 묻고싶습니다. 당신들이 갖는 여성주의로서의 급진적 위치가 김치공장에서 종일 서서 일하는 아주머니를, KTX 비정규직 승무원을, 귀에 물집이 잡히는 텔레마케터를, 폐지를 줍는 할머니를, 그들의 삶을 포섭했다고 믿느냐고. 당신들이 행하는 하나의 미러링이, 그들이 마주하는 또 하나의 가부장을 늘리게 되는 효과가 있다면 당신은 그 책임을 '무식한 가부장'에게 지우면서 빠져나갈거냐고. 노동자 희생을 당연한 것으로 여겼던 사회주의는 노동자에게 외면받았습니다. 그 결과를 외면하는 급진은 대체 누구를 위한 급진이냐고. 권리의 획득, 이데올로기의 전환, 경계의 해체는 민주정 위에서는 오로지 민중의 보편에 의해 얻을 수 있습니다. 급진적 여성주의가 포섭해야 하는 것은 '보편'의 수준을 내리깔고 자신들의 진리적 지위를 강요하는 전략으로는 얻을 수 없습니다. 심지어 그것들은 하나의 반동효과로서 '팝콘이나 씹는 제 3자'들을 또 하나의 여혐으로 만들어 버릴 위험까지 있습니다. 공격이란 그런것입니다. 당장 쌀 개방으로 내년이면 굶어죽을 농민들이 죽창을 들어도, 그게 진짜 실존적 삶의 위협이 되도 제 3자들은 '왜 저래'라고 하는것이 대중이며 '그게 곧 대중'입니다. 우리의 삶은 각자 다른 실존으로 존재하며 각자가 짊어진 이데올로기의 압박은 다릅니다. 그것을 무시한 채 하나의 진리효과를 강성적으로 밀어넣는 것이, 그 통쾌함이 갖는 반동의 효과를 당신은 짊어지고 있습니까? 저는 메갈리안이 그 내부에서 그러한 논의를 하고, 혹은 현실의 불평등한 이데올로기에 노출된 폭력의 피해자분들의 해방구적 역할이자, 그곳을 찾아간 이들에게 하나의 진리효과를 주는 것을 매우 긍정적으로 생각합니다. 그러나 그것이 갖는 급진성을 노출시키는 것이 과연 현실 여성주의가 포섭하고 돌봐야 할 사람들에게 해악으로 다가갈지를 고려하는 것 역시 매우 중요하고, 보편을 강제로 급진화 시키는 것이 아닌 급진에 보편의 모순이 드러날 수 있도록 대중을 포섭하는 작업은 훨씬 더 지리하고, 평화로운 방법을 택해야 한다고 생각합니다. 그게 어렵더라도 그걸 고민해야하는게 급진주의자들의 의무이며, 급진적 지식을 향유하는 이들의 권리입니다. 깨어있는 자의 계몽적 권리는 '권위'로 보편을 획득하는 것이 아니라, 대중과의 이해와 관계속에서 끌어내는 것입니다. 메갈리안이 만약 그 안에서만 급진을 해소하고 그곳을 찾아오는 이들에게만 열려있었으며, 이론적 성찰을 하는 조직화된 집단이고 뭇 여성들의 해방구였다면 전 이런 말을 구구절절히 하지도 않고 엄지를 치켜세웠을 겁니다. 그러나 이미 메갈리아의 많은 사람들은 외부를 향해 자신들의 이념을 주장하기 시작했고, 정확히 이 시점부터 우리는 정말로 조심하고 조심해야 하는 단계라고 생각합니다. 사회운동은 언제나 대중과 괴리되어서는 안되는게 민주주의이며, 대중은 계몽의 대상임과 동시에 포섭의 대상입니다. 단순히 '한남충'의 전략론이나 지능문제라고 비꼬면서 자신들의 진리효과에 취해 '나는 옳은 위치에 있고, 나는 옳은 투쟁을하고, 나는 맞아.' 라며 스스로의 포지션에 긍지만 가득 채우는 사이 대중은 점점 멀어지고, 급진적 여성주의가 바꿔줄 많은 여성 약자들의 삶은 악화되거나 버려지게 됩니다. 사회운동에있어서 '이기는'게 무엇인지, 그리고 '이기기 위해' 고민해야 하는게 어떤 것인지를 생각할 시점이 이제는 왔다고 생각합니다. 만약 이게 너무 과도한 짐이고 폭력적 요구라고 생각한다면 메갈은 외부를 향해 발화하는 것을 자제할 필요가 있습니다. 이것은 폭력적 권고가 아니라, 그 주장들이 낳는 폭력적 시선들이 다른 누군가의 현실주체들을 더 악화시킬 수 있다는 실존적 결과를 책임질 수 없기 때문에 그렇습니다. 설령 진리가 '그 피해를 입히는 주체들이 나쁜거야'라고 하더라도, 그 피해를 감내하는 시간을 본인이 감내하는 것이 아니라면 그것은 매우 신중해야하며, 매우 조심스러워야 합니다. 메갈리안이 과연 그 조심성을 담보하고 있는지에 대해 저는 감히 아니라고 주장합니다. 부디 급진적 여성주의의 이념이 보편 모순까지 그 지위를 획득하고, 여성주의를 통해 평등을 이룩하는 것을 응원합니다. 이만 줄입니다. 저도 여기에 글쓰고 생각 많이 해보고 메갈리안도 자주 들어가봤는데 실제로 보니까 별로 분석할 가치도 이유도 없겠더라고요. 일베도 마찬가지고요. 일베 초창기 때 일베에 의미에 대해서 극우의 출현이니 어쩌구 하면서 분석 많이 나왔는데 지금은 다 시들하잖아요. 접근하려면 피해의식이나 이런 거 위주로 심리학적 접근이 필요한 곳이에요.
