꽤 규모가 있는 (시리즈 E) 미국 핀테크 스타트업과 데이터 사이언스 직무로 인터뷰를 봤는데, 별로였습니다. 1. 강력한 아카데믹 배경을 가진 사람들로만 구성된 데이터 사이언스팀을 만들 예정이라고 말해서 여기까진 좋았습니다. 리서치 헤드가 프린스턴 대학교 교수입니다. 인터뷰어인 디렉터는 하버드 박사입니다. 2. 언제부터 일을 시작할 수 있는지를 중요하게 생각하고 물어봐서, 내년 5월이 공식 졸업일인 입장에서 당혹스러웠습니다. 제가 일을 시작할 때까지 대기업들처럼 6개월이나 기다려줄 수는 없고, 그렇다면 다른 더 좋은 후보자들로 넘어갈 수 밖에 없다 말한 것도 솔직한 대답에는 감사하지만 들으면 기분은 안좋습니다. 일반적인 룰은 졸업하고 OPT 받고 일을 시작하는 것입니다. 그러면 못 기다려주니 이제 대기업 인터뷰 보러 가면 되는거겠네요? 3. 풀타임을 생각하고 인터뷰를 봤지만, 제가 학교 재학중이니 재학 중에 일 할 수 있게 인턴십을 따로 하나 만들어줄 수 있다고 얘기했습니다. 여기까진 그래도 좋은 이야기인데, 하지만 만약에 인턴십을 하게 되면 인턴십을 받고 나서 풀타임을 확정하는 건 아니기 때문에 인턴 중에 잡서칭을 계속 해도 된다고 그랬습니다. 그런데 그러면 제가 왜 졸업직전에 인턴십을 해야하죠? 그래서 제가 다소 이른 시기이지만 이미 풀타임 위주로 다른 회사들과 인터뷰를 보는 중이고, 아무리 빨리 회사에 조인해도 내년 1월이라고 보충 설명을 했습니다. 그러자 인터뷰어가 이해했다고 말하면서 풀타임 잡으로 고려해서 팀에 다음 인터뷰를 얘기하겠다고 했습니다. 4. 핀테크 기업이라 내부 데이터가 굉장히 많기는 한데 관리가 잘 안되어 있는 상태라서 많은 데이터 정제 작업이 필요할거라고 했습니다. 이것은 데이터 사이언티스트로서 거의 적색 경보입니다. 왜냐면 모델링이나 연구는 제대로 못하고 SQL 쿼리만 하루종일 쓰고 있을 가능성이 높다는 이야기거든요. 빠르게 크는 작은 회사이니 그 상황을 이해는 하지만, 이런 말을 듣는 순간 연구자로서는 매우 실망스럽습니다. 5. 당면한 비즈니스 문제에 대해 이야기했던 것은 좋았습니다. 다음 인터뷰때 생각이 나면 얘기를 해주겠다고 말햇습니다. 문제는 인터뷰 시간이 30분이라 너무 짧아서 도무지 뭔가를 생각하고 서로 깊게 이야기할 상황이 아니었습니다. * 결론: 스타트업이 왜 스타트업인지 알게 되었습니다. 첫 직장은 그냥 대기업이 나은 것 같습니다. 전 작은 회사에서 여러가지 더럽고 힘든 일을 하는게 딱히 싫거나 두렵지는 않습니다. 회사의 성장과 개인의 성장이 함께하면서 많은 보람과 보상이 있다는 것을 알기 때문입니다. 그러나 오히려 인터뷰 끝나고 이 회사가 학생인 나를 그다지 원하지 않는다는 인상을 받았습니다. 반대로 페이스북이야말로 지금까지 제가 본 인터뷰 중에 제일 전문적이고 체계적이어서 저를 원하고 있다는 인상을 많이 줬습니다. 예를 들자면, 이 회사 말고도 IPO를 최근에 끝낸 또 다른 스타트업에서도 리쿠르터 연락을 받아봤는데 리쿠르터가 이메일 답장을 너무 안해서 제 속이 더 답답합니다. 리쿠르터가 다음 스케쥴을 빠르게 안잡아주면 지원자는 그동안 할 수 있는게 아무것도 없습니다. 반면에 페이스북은 이메일 거의 하루 안에 답장이 오고 일주일 안에 인터뷰 잡는 것도 가능합니다. 딱 회사 규모 순서대로 인터뷰 경험이 좋습니다: 페이스북 > 우버 > 스타트업 Warning: Use of undefined constant no - assumed 'no' (this will throw an Error in a future version of PHP) in /home/redtea/html/a_skin/bbsd/view.php on line 133 Warning: Use of undefined constant no - assumed 'no' (this will throw an Error in a future version of PHP) in /home/redtea/html/a_skin/bbsd/view.php on line 146 Warning: Use of undefined constant vote - assumed 'vote' (this will throw an Error in a future version of PHP) in /home/redtea/html/a_skin/bbsd/view.php on line 161 5 이 게시판에 등록된 개랑이님의 최근 게시물 |
