앱개발자로 지낸지 10년 좀 넘는 기간을 보내왔는데요. 요즘 좀 많이 지쳐있던 찰나에 저보다 몇살 많으신 직원분과 티타임을 가졌습니다. 재직하는동안 꽤 여러 서비스를 개발하며 나름대로 열심히 해왔다고 생각하고, 그 사이에서 성취감도 얻어왔습니다. 그런데 작년쯤 부터 업무시간에 코드를 들여다보기 어려울정도로 관리 업무가 늘어나면서 '이게 번아웃인가?' 하는 생각이 들정도로 지쳐가고 있었습니다. 그동안은 일의 양과 상관없이 제가 일을 보고 달려들었던 느낌이라면, 이번엔 무수한 일들이 저를 덮쳐오는 느낌을 받았거든요. 아무튼 이렇게 힘들어하던 와중에, 평소 알고 지내던 직원분과 커피를 했습니다. (이하 A님 이라고 하겠습니다) A님과의 자세한 대화내용을 기록할 수는 없지만, 이분의 열정만은 가히 대단하더군요. - 도저히 각이 안보이는 서비스라고 말을 했지만, 나는 보였다. 그래서 달려들었다. - 회사에서 돈까지 줘가면서 도전해보라고 하는데 안할수가 없잖느냐 - 그동안 회사 대표님이 보시던 서비스 stat에 비해선 매우 작은 수치겠지만, 분명히 가능성이 보이는 수치다. - 윗분들이 확신이 없어하시는것 같으니 내가 생각하는 로드맵을 다 보여주고 설득하려고 한다. (실제로 설득에 성공하심) 뭐 여튼 이런 티타임이 끝난 뒤에 자리에 앉아서 일을 해야하는데, 그분이 자기 서비스를 설명하실때 보이든 그 눈빛, 말투가 계속 머릿속에 맴돌더라구요. 내 시간과 열정을 회사에서 주는 돈으로 단순히 교환만 해오는 삶을 산건 아닌지도 다시한번 생각해보게 됐습니다. 회사에서 제가 개발한 제품들이 오로지 회사의 것만으로 남는것도 아니라는걸 다시한번 느끼기도 했구요. 그동안 제가 개발했던 기능중에 수많은 사람들에게 편의를 제공했던 것들이 많이 있었겠지만, 그건 그때 당시의 상황이 그 결과물을 내놓게 했던 것 같은 느낌입니다. 앞으로 좀더 다른 시각에서 회사에 뭔가를 남겨보고 싶습니다. 막연히 떠오르는건 많고 그중에 제가 여기에 재직할동안 뭘 남기게 될진 모르겠지만요.
