저는 올림픽 이전에 개교한 강남 8학군의 신생학교를 졸업했습니다. 80년대 말의 고등학교가 다들 그랬던것처럼 선생님들은 학생들 엄청 때리고, 공부잘하면 무조건 편들어주는 그런 조그만 사회였습니다. 엄청난 경쟁율로 엘리트 선생님들이 모였었지요었. 학부모 촌지는 담임선생님들은 기본적으로 받는 돈이었구요. 국영수가 제일 잘나가고 나머지 기타 과목 선생님들도 고액과외로 돈을 벌었었고, 담임 선생님과 교장과 교감들은 다른 방법으로 돈을 벌었지요. 일례로, 영어과외의 시세가 기본영어 오백, 종합영어 천정도였는데 그당시 현대 아파트 44평형 가격이 3억3천이었습니다. 졸업하고 10년이 지나고 나서 들은 이야기는 더 대단했지요. 학교에서 반마다 10명씩 학부모들을 불러서 학교발전기금을 받았는데 그 분들 자식들이 자기 학교 선생님들한테 과외를 받았다는 것이었습니다. 당연히 학교 선생님들은 과외 금지하던 시절이었는데도 말입니다. 생각해보니 도저히 풀수 없었던 문제를 풀었던 친구들이 그걸 푼걸 보고 대단하다고 생각했는데 미리 답을 알수도 있었겠구나 하는 생각이 들더군요. 학교발전기금으로 걷은 돈을 교장선생님이 많이 잡수시다, 나중에 문제가 생겨서 검찰조사 받았다고 했는데 어찌 되었는지는 모르겠습니다. 백미중에 백미는 졸업생중 몇몇이 도저히 들어갈 수 없는 대학을 들어갔다는데 경악스러웠는데요, 처음에는 기부금 입학으로 몇억을 대학에 냈다 어쨌다 이야기가 많았는데, 후일 들려오는 이야기는 대학에 기부한 돈과 별도로 담임 선생님의 내신 조작이 있었고, 대가는 현대아파트 한채였다는군요. 교장, 교감 부터 담임까지 연결된 비리가 없으면 불가능한 조작이었지요. 학력고사 점수는 어떻게 받았는지에 대한 이야기는 세어나오지 않았습니다. 하지만 후일 신문지상을 장식하였던 학력고사 답안지 빼돌린 사건에 비추어 대강 어찌했을 것이라고 상상합니다. 선생님들도 자본주의 사회의 일원으로서 열심히 자식을 위해 가정을 위해 살았겠지만, 그분들 참 돈 쉽게 벌었습니다. 강남 팔학군 일부 학교의 이야기라고 생각하시면 안됩니다. 전국의 학교에서 벌어지던 이야기였고, 다만 돈이 많은 동네에서 일을 했기에 그분들이 더 많은 돈을 번것이지요. 개인적으로 능력도 출중한 분들이었던 것 같습니다. 당시 EBS 선생님들이 많았으니까요. 지방 명문학교들도 당연히 이런 게임에 동참했다고 보는게 타당할 것이며, 거의 전국 모든 고등학교에서 벌어졌다고 봐야 할 것입니다.강남 학교에서만 이런 일이 벌어졌다고 생각하고 싶지만 말이 되지 않지 않습니까? 그럼 현재의 입시시스템에서 선생님들은 정의로울까요? 선생님의 재량권이 더 세진 현 시스템에서는 선생님들이 과거와 같은 윤리의식을 가지고 있다면 돈을 차곡차곡 모으고 계시다고 저는 조심스럽게 추론합니다. 사교육 시장은 인강에 학원에 많은 지분을 빼았겼지만, 아직 내신을 위해서 학교 선생님에게 과외을 받겠지요. 거기에 내신점수관리가 백프로 정의롭다고 상상하면 참 기분좋지만, 그렇지 않다에 백원 걸곘습니다. 제가 선생님들의 일원이라면 수십년 이어져 오는 시장을 유지하기 위해서 현 시스템에 변화를 가져오는 각종 특목학교, 사립학교의 폐지를 원할 것이며, 사교육을 반대하고, 누구에게나 동일한 공교육을 주장하겠습니다. 그리고 부자동네 학교에 담임선생님으로 가기 위해 최선을 다하겠습니다. 사회의 일원으로 살아가면서 단 하나의 비리를 저지르지 않고 살아간다는 것은 대단한 결심이 필요합니다. 자신의 지위가 올라갈때마나 그 비리에 참여하라는 제안이 조금씩 늘어나는데 그것이 옳지 않다는 것은 교육에서부터 시작하는게 가장 가성비 좋은 방법일 것입니다. 그렇지만 국내 현실을 그렇지가 않은 것이 아쉽습니다. 그래도 공부라는게 좋은게 열심히 공부하는 친구들이 그래도 대부분 좋은 학교에 갔고 사회 지도층 인사가 되었다는 것은 꼭 이야기하고 싶습니다. 과수원 사과가 다썩는 것이 아니지 않습니까? 일부 루프홀을 이용한 사람들이 좀 있다는 이야기였습니다. 교사면 다들 성인군자여야 된다는 발상 자체가 사상적 선입견일 뿐이죠.
이건 체제를 가리지 않고 발생하는 시스템 문제와 부패 문제 관계라서 그 국가 사회의 영향을 우선 보는게 합리적인 분석이죠.
특수목적고나 사립학교는 시스템에 파괴적 혁신을 가져오는 기관이 아닙니다.
그저 시스템 안에서 운영되는 하나의 개체일 뿐이에요.
