다른 곳 질문답변에 돌린 답변 댓글인데, 쓴김에 공유하면 좋겠다 싶어 홍차넷에도 올려봅니다. 영상 쪽 일을 하고 있는데 요새 유튜브에 대한 관심도 높아지고, 비슷한 질문을 많이 받았었습니다. 요즘 많은 편집 프로그램이 기본적인 기능은 무료로 사용 가능하게 하면서, 전문가들이 사용하는 고급 기능은 유료로, 혹은 소프트웨어는 무료로 하드웨어를 팔려는 비지니스 모델을 제시하고 있어서, 일반 소비자들은 기본 편집기능은 무료로 접할 수 있는 경우가 많아져 선택의 폭이 굉장히 넓어졌습니다. 또한 예전에는 거지같았던 오픈소스 진영의 NLE 편집툴들도 요즘엔 어느정도 성능이 무르익어 충분히 사용할 만 하구요. ---------------------------------------------------------- 다빈치 리졸브 장)전문가용 프로그램을 무료로 푼 수준이라 무료로 쓸수 있는 편집툴 중에선 가장 강력함. 주력 기능인 색보정 외에도 돈받고 파는 영세한 컨버팅 툴보다 영상 파일 변환이 안정적이고 호환 범위가 넓고 기능이 막강하지만, 사용하기 X같은 오픈소스 컨버팅 툴보다는 또 다루기 쉬움. 개인적으론 단순한 편집툴로 다빈치는 너무 무거워서 안쓸 것 같지만, 아무것도 안하고 컨버팅만 하는 용도로는 워낙 탁월해서 쓸거같음. 단)컨슈머 레벨에선 활용도가 낮은 퓨전이나 페어라이트 같은 무거운 툴도 한 프로그램에 통으로 들어가있어서 굉장히 무거운편, 강력한 다른 기능에 비해 나중에 추가되고 관심을 비교적 덜 받은 기본 편집 기능은 다른 툴에 비해 굉장히 기초적이고 단순한 편. 샷컷 장)굉장히 역사가 오래된 무료 프로그램이라 정보도 많고, 4K지원, 무료 치고 커버하는 파일 포맷의 범위도 굉장히 넓음. 의외로 EDL 같은거도 지원해서 후반작업 프로그램끼리 연동이 가능해 인디씬에선 가능성 있음. 단)예전에는 프록시 편집이 안되어서 편법쓰는게 유행했던걸로 알고있는데 요즘은 어떤지 모르겠음.(이게 안되면 고화질을 실시간 편집할때 렉걸림) 각종 효과(텍스트, 컷 연결 효과 등)는 상용 프로그램과 비교했을때 굉장히 기초적인 편. 버그가 좀 많았는데, 역시 요즘엔 얼마나 안정적일지 모르겠음. 힛필름 장)어도비 프리미어 프로/에펙과 유사한 인터페이스 및 사용법. 다빈치 리졸브 Fusion이 3D 합성(컴포지팅)에 강점을 보이는 프로그램이라면, 어도비 에펙은 2D/모션 그래픽의 황제임. 그런 에펙을 닯은 힛필름 역시 이쪽에 강점이 보임. 쓸수 있는 효과의 수도 무료치고 많고, 이쪽에 유용한 Mocha도 지원함(유료). 거의 단순 편집툴이라기보단 에디팅 + 컴포지터(합성) 툴 느낌. 사용법도 쉽고, 심지어 잘 익혀놓으면 나중에 프리미어/에펙을 아주 적은 노력으로 배울수 있음. 단)굉장히 불안정함. 힛필름 강점이 다른 무료 편집툴보다 이펙트가 압도적으로 좋다는 건데, 무거운 영상파일로 이펙트 올리기 시작하면, 뻑나서 작업물 날라감. 요즘 많이 좋아졌다고 하는데, 안정성이 중요한 프로레벨에선 이거 떄문에 장난감 정도로 취급함. 가벼운 홈비디오, 유튜브 수준에선 크게 문제되었던 적은 없는 것 같음 - 단, 렌더링 시간이 좀 오래걸렸던 것 같은데 이건 굉장히 주관적인 제 개인적인 의견으로 참고만. (사실 안정성은 이 리스트에서 리졸브 정도 빼곤 다들 엄청 좋진 않음. 프리미어도 프로레벨에서 최근 몇년까지 저평가된 이유가 툭하면 뻑나서였고.) KDENLIVE 장) 프록시 편집 가능. 다양한 영상 파일 포맷 지원 등등 샷컷과 비교했을데 없는 기능도 있지만, 비슷한 수준이거나 비교적 우위에 있는 지점이 많음. 많이 써보지 않았지만 샷컷, 힛필름보단 안정성이 괜찮은 것 같았음. 단)사용감+UI가 세상 병X같고 다른 많은 영상 툴에서 사용하는 표준 용어, 사용법과 다른 독자적인 방법을 씀. 비유를 들면 세상 존재하는 엥간한 프로그램이 마우스 왼클릭이 '선택' 기능인데 얘가 우클릭이 '선택'이라면 얼마나 처음 배울때 거지같겠음. 전문적으로 영상 공부하는 사람이 아니라도 굉장히 중요한 팩터라고 생각함. 기능적으론 아무리 생각해도 꽤 괜찮은 무료 편집툴인데, 그냥 만지기가 싫음. Lightworks 장단점이고 뭐고 돈안내면 익스포트 720p가 최고임. 무료로 8K까지 가는 Cinelerra 가 있는 마당에... 그래서 돈을 낸다? 돈낼꺼면 이거 왜씀. - 리스트에 넣을 필요도 없는애지만, 무료버전 있어서 걍 넣음. Openshot 장)배우기 엄청 쉬움. UI도 간단하고 직관적, 유저 친화적. 사용자도 많아서 정보도 많음. 사용 목적이 간단한 편집이면 이쪽이 가장 본문 목적과 부합할 가능성이 있음. 단)프로 지향 프로그램이 아니라서 지원하지 않는 포맷이 좀 있음, 렉이 좀 있고, 안정성이 좀 떨어짐. Cinelerra 장)속도도 빠르고, 버그도 적고, 8K까지 지원하는 엄청난 스펙과 꽤 좋은 이펙트들, 이렇게만 나열하면 거의 원탑급 무료툴 단)리눅스 전용. (다른 OS 포팅버전이 있긴 한데 제한적임) 샷컷, KDENLIVE도 Cinelerra와 마찬가지로 리눅스 진영에 쓸만한 편집툴이 없어서 생겨난 애들인데, 앞의 둘은 멀티 플랫폼을 지원하기는 하는데(그래도 가끔 윈도우에서 버벅댐) 얘는 공식적으론 리눅스에서만 사용 가능. Olive (*개인적으로 아직 사용해보지 않아서 잘 모르긴 함. 나머지 툴들은 조금씩이라도 편집 시작부터 완성본 익스포트까지 해보긴 해봤음) 장) 요즘 핫한 최신 무료 편집툴. 개발자가 전문가용 지향으로 만들고 있다고 함. 아무리 그래도 기능적으론 꽤 완성도가 높은 KDENLIVE 유저들이 쌍수들고 환영하며 많이 옮겨간다는 반응을 보긴 봄.(객관적 증거는 없음). 단) 아직 알파버전임. 당장 신뢰하고 쓰기엔 구현되지 않은 기능도 많고 좀 꺼림칙함. 사용자 커뮤니티나 가이드 같은것도 아무래도 적을듯. - 근데 반대로 생각하면, 아직 알파버전인데도 KDENLIVE 쓰던 사람들이 옮겨갈 정도의 성능은 된다는 얘기 ------------------------------------------- 참고로 이런 여러가지 선택권이 있기 전 세대에 아마추어들이 가장 선호하는 원탑 편집기는 크랙된 베가스였습니다. 하지만 소니는 베가스를 버렸고, 요즘엔 추세가 좀 다릅니다. 저는 개인적으로 그냥 어도비 구독해서 프리미어/에펙 쓰고 있습니다. 방송쪽은 과거엔 파컷7, 요즘엔 멀티캠에서 압도적인 기능을 자랑하는 에디우스 쓴다던데, 그것도 몇년 된 얘기라 아직까지 에디우스가 유효할지는 모르겠네요. 영화쪽은 과거에 파컷7이 지배적이었으나, 최근 애플에서 최신 OS로 업데이트 하면서 파컷7에 대한 지원을 완전 끊어버렸고, 파컷X는 전문가들한테는 완전 눈밖에 난 상황이라, 출시 이후 꽤 많은 변화와 수정을 거쳤음에도 메이저 편집툴은 아닙니다. 헐리우드에서 아직도 표준인 아비드는 국내에선 굉장히 제한적이구요. 그냥 툴리뷰만 쓰면 재미있는 내용이 없으니깐 요것도 간단하게 썰 풀어보면, 파컷이 나왔을때 가격이 약 100만원가량 정도였다고 알고 있는데(요즘엔 30만원 안될겁니다), 아비드는 소프트웨어 하드웨어 합쳐서 2천만원 넘어가는 고가의 영화/방송 장비였습니다. 그전까지는 비디오 데크나 필름 잘라가며 편집하는 시절이었구요, 아비드가 디지털 편집기로써 상업성과 성능을 인정받은 최초의 프로그램이라서 사실 저 가격이 말도 안되는 건 아니었는데, 파컷이 가격대를 후려쳐버린 것이죠. 그러면 파컷의 성능이 값싼만큼 후졌어야 됐는데, 그렇지 않았다는게 문제입니다. 공식 지원이 끊긴지 12년이 넘어가는 파컷 7이 아직도 현업에서 그렇게 낯선 툴이 아니고, 이제사야 대안으로 뭘찾지 하는 정도면, 파컷 7의 성능과 가격이 얼마나 대단했는지 짐작하실 수 있을 겁니다. 그래서 국내에선 디지털 편집방식이 도입되는 초창기엔 헐리우드의 아비드를 들여오기도 했지만, 결국 가성비가 너무 엄청난 파컷7이 메이저가 되었죠. 그렇다면 헐리우드는 왜 아직도 아비드가 표준이냐? 아날로그에서 디지털로 넘어오면서 헐리우드는 아비드 장비에 엄청난 투자를 했고, 아비드 사에서는 그런 영화제작사들을 위해 지속적인 A/S와 그 업체들의 입맛에 맞도록 업데이트를 해왔습니다. (+아비드 사는 영상편집툴로만 유명한 건 아닙니다. 음악/음향하시는 분들은 잘 아실 프로툴도 이쪽입니다. 물론 일반인들은 로직이 더 익숙하실 수도 있겠지만, 음악도 작곡이나, 미디작업, 곡믹싱 쪽으로 가면 춘추전국시대인데 영화/영상음향 믹싱은 프로툴이 원탑입니다.) 파컷7이 정말 엄청난 툴인건 맞지만 최대강점은 성능대비 싼 가격이었고, 아비드가 결코 성능이 구린건 아니었거든요. 전용 하드웨어 + 맞춤 소프트웨어의 구성으로 이루어졌던 아비드는 안정성면에서나 속도면에서나 여전히 최고이긴 합니다. 다만 사용자가 몇번의 귀찮은 과정을 거쳐야 했고, 그 성능을 보장하기 위해 프로그램 자체가 다소 깐깐하고 딱딱한 세팅을 요구했기 때문에 파컷보다는 숙련되는 과정이 좀 더 필요했고, 파컷처럼 그냥 슉 배워서 슉 쓸수 없는 편집기였죠. 하지만 할리우드는 돈이 문제가 아니었고, 이미 많은 편집자들이 아비드의 교육을 받은 상태였기 때문에, 파컷으로 굳이 옮겨갈 이유가 없었던 거겠죠. 요즘 아비드도 비싼 가격을 접고 어도비 사의 비지니스 모델처럼 저렴한 구독 모델로 전환하긴 했습니다만, 주기적인 업데이트도 꽤 느린 편이었고 시장에 반응을 가장 보수적으로 하는 편입니다. 미국에서도 영세한 프로덕션은 파컷을 많이 쓰긴 했습니다. 하지만 파컷은 X버전에서 전문가들을 개무시하는 소프트웨어 디자인으로 제대로 말아먹고 많은 영상편집 전문가들을 떠나보냅니다. 그때 가장 많이 들었던 조롱이 iMovie Pro냐라는 것이었죠. 물론 파컷X가 나쁘기만 한 것은 아니었고, 유저 편의성을 많이 올리려고 이것저것 자동화시키고 편리하게 몇 가지 기능들을 압축하거나 생략한 것이어서 어떻게 보면 혁신적인 업그레이드라고 볼 수도 있겠습니다. 게다가 이미 파컷X가 나올 당시에도 파컷7은 이미 엄청 오래된 프로그램이어서 랜더링 등의 성능만 비교해도 압도적으로 X가 월등했죠. 다만, 기존의 편집 문화와 너무 다른 툴이 나와버렸고, 전문가들은 생각보다 귀찮은 작업일지라도 자동화된 기능보단 자신의 의지대로 조작할 수 있는 프로그램을 원했기 때문에 엄청 괜찮은 성능과 혁신적인 디자인에도 불구하고 파컷 X는 망했습니다. 여기서 제가 이렇게 많은 얘기를 했는데도 여러분들이 가장 친숙해하고 많이 알고 있을 프로그램은 언급도 안됐습니다. 예. 프리미어 프로입니다. 사실 파컷이라는 프로그램은 옛날에 프리미어를 개발하던 사람들을 매크로미디어(네 플래시의 매크로미디어 맞습니다.)에서 스카웃 해와서 만들던 프로그램이었고, 첫 버젼이 나오기 전에 애플에서 사버립니다. 애플과 어도비의 관계를 알고 있으신 분이라면 여기도 또 막장드라마만큼 재미있는 스토리가 많지만, 넘어가고... 프리미어 프로는 아비드건 파컷이건 저 둘의 싸움에 끼지도 못했습니다. 지금 우리가 바라보는 베가스 정도의 적당한 아마추어 툴정도로 취급했습니다. 포토샵과 일러스트레이터, 특히 한국들에게 업계 표준은 에프터 이펙트에 비하면 처참한 취급이었죠. 왜냐? 너무 불안정해서 툭하면 뻑이 났기 때문이죠. 왜 프리미어는 뻑이나냐? 프리미어는 아비드 파컷과 지향하는 점이 애초부터 달랐습니다. 컴퓨터가 생기고 아날로그에서 디지털로 넘어오면서 우리는 많은 경험을 합니다. 우리에게 익숙한 얘를 들어보면, 이미지 파일 형식으로 bmp.jpg, png, gif 등 여러가지 이미지 확장자들이 있습니다. 이런 확장자들은 필요에 의해서 생겨나는데(예를들면 gif는 다른 애들과 다르게 움직이는 이미지죠) 시대가 변하고 기술이 발전할수록 과거의 형식이 지원하지 못했던 친구들은 새로운 형식으로 만든다든지, 짧은시간에 이러한 변화가 수도 없이 일어납니다. 이미지도 이러는데 영상도 마찬가지겠죠. 게다가 이 디지털로 영상을 다루는 기술은 카메라 제조사마다도 그 방식이 제각각이었습니다. 컨테이너만 보만 mp4, avi, mov, mkv 등이 있겠지만, 또 코덱이란 놈이 엄청나게 다양해서 나오는 바람에 난리도 아니었습니다. 이런 모든 형식과 포맷을 한 편집 프로그램이 다루려면 각각의 형태를 개발진들이 다룰수 있게끔 해야겠죠? 요즘에야 비교적 정돈된 표준과 일관성있는 카메라 제조사들의 노력으로 이런게 깔끔하게 정리 된 편이지만, 디지털 초창기에는 혼돈에 카오스였겠죠. 여기서 파컷은 프로레스라는 자신만의 독자 규격을 만들고 세상에서 창조되는 모든 영상을 이 프로레스라는 코덱으로로 때려박아서 파컷에서는 (다른 포맷도 간간히 지원하지만) 이 애플 프로레스로 편집하면 모두 가능하도록 해버립니다. 아비드는 더 닫혀있어서 거의 무조건 DNxHD로 영상을 변환해야지만 아비드에서 굴릴 수 있었죠. 근데 이게 여러가지 이점이 있었습니다. 이렇게 코덱을 일원하시켜버리니깐 최적화도 잘되어서 속도도 빠르고, 프로그램의 안정성이 엄청나게 올라갔다는 것이죠. (아비드도 마찬가지였구요) 그런데 이 프로레스의 성능이 무지 놓고 결과물의 질마저 압도적이어서 파컷 시대가 열리게 되는 것이구요. 근데 프리미어는 애초에 방향부터가 달랐습니다. 프리미어의 방향은 아무거나 다 편집기에 때려넣어도 작동해라 였습니다. 라이트한 사용자 입장에서는 프로레스가 뭔지 DNxHD 뭔지 아무것도 몰라도 걍 편집기에 때려박으면 알아서 잘 되면 장땡 아니겠습니까? 근데 이게 툭하면 뻑났던 프리미어의 이유였습니다. 세상에 존재하는 수많은 영상 형식, 코덱 등등과 씨름해야됐으니까요. 심지어 요즘엔 저세상 가버린 베가스보다 안좋았는데, 베가스는 애초에 제작사가 소니 아니겠습니다. 방송영상 카메라의 원탑 제조사인 소니가 자사의 프로그램을 만든는데, 자사의 카메라는 모두 지원하도록 만들었어야 겠죠? 그래서 베가스는 생각보다 지원하는 영상포맷이 풍부했고, 결국 이게 아마추어들이 코덱이나 영상 파일 형식의 깊은 이해 없이 대충 때려박아도 알아서 굴러가는 슈퍼 편집기가 되어 베가스 붐이 일게 됩니다. 다시 2010년대 초반으로 돌아와, 파컷 X가 망한때로 가봅시다. 그전까지 프리미어는 툭하는 뻑나는 X같은 프로그램이었습니다. 하지만 어도비가 누굽니까? 돈에 눈이 뒤집해 매년 새로운 버전을 출시하는 자본에 환장한 회사... 가 아니라, 꾸준한 업데이트를 하는 회사 아닙니까? 저는 과거 포토샵 6.0이 굉장한 프로그램이었던 걸로 기억합니다. 하지만 7.0은 더 대단했죠. 그때 브러시 기능이 좋아졌었나...? 근데 그때 7.0이 아무리 좋았어도 지금의 CC와 비교가 되나요? 그런겁니다. 프리미어는 거의 제대로 된 사용이 불가능한 반신불구급 편집기로 취급받았지만, 매년 꾸준한 업데이트를 통해 개선해 나갑니다. 파컷이 약 7여년동안 마이너한 업데이트만 하다가 X때 말아먹은거랑 비교하면 말이죠. 그사이 사람들의 컴퓨터 성능은 비약적으로 좋아졌고, 영상 코덱 같은 형식은 비교적 깔끔하게 정리되기 시작했어서, 프리미어도 나름 안정성을 찾아가고 있었습니다. 그리고 그토록 오랜기간 원했던 아무 영상이나 때려넣으면 돌아가는 수준의 편집기를 거의 완성 시켰죠. 그런데 파컷이 X로 삽질하면서 개망하고 파컷7을 쓰다가 갈데없어진 편집자들은 대안을 찾아나섭니다. 이때쯤부터였을까요? 프리미어의 UI와 사용법이 점점 업데이트를 거칠수록 과거의 파컷7과 비슷하게 닮아가기 시작합니다. 파컷 X가 망한 이유가 너무도 급격하게 달라진 사용법때문이었는데, 프리미어는 오히려 과거의 파컷 7을 사용했다면 프리미어도 무리없이 사용할 수 있도록 슬슬 바뀌고 있었던거죠. 결국 많은 사람들이 프리미어로 넘어왔고, 어도비의 전략은 성공적이었습니다. 게다가 아무거나 때려넣어도 잘 돌아가는 편집기 - 의 방향은 구현이 어려워서 그렇지, 구현만 한다면 다른 번거로운 컨버팅 과정을 거쳐야되는 툴보다 압도적으로 편리하겠죠? 사실 아직도 파컷 X는 성능면에서 프리미어를 웃돕니다. 랜더링 속도나 기타 여러 기능면에서요. 애플 머신과 프로레스 코덱에 딱 맞춰진 소프트웨어니 그럴수 밖에 없죠. 하지만 맥을 가진 사람들은 (특히 우리나라에선) 영상 전문가 집단이고, 이들은 파컷X를 받아들이지 못했고, 이후 유튜브 등으로 영상 편집이 전문가 뿐만 아니라 일반 대중들에게도 널리 전파되자, 포토샵 등으로 대중에게 익숙하고 확장성 면에서 압도적인 프리미어가 결국 시장을 점차 차지하게 되죠. 아직도 일정 전문가들은 프리미어는 전문가용은 아닌거 같아라고 꾸준히 얘기하긴 하지만, 헐리우드에서도 장편영화를 이걸로 편집하기도 하고, 일반 대중들에겐 거의 최고의 유료 편집툴로 자리매김하고 있습니다. 게다가 포토샵, 에펙, 일러스트레이터, 인디자인같은 업계 표준툴들을 구독하면 덤으로 딸려오니까 추가 비용 걱정도 없잖아요. 역시 어도비는 돈의 화신.. 어쨌든 저도 그래서 프리미어 씁니다. 비교적 최근까지도 좀더 중요한 프로젝트는 파컷 7으로 했었는데, OS업데이트로 파컷이 켜지지도 더이상 실행도 불가능하게 된 이후로는 걍 엥간해선 프리미어 씁니다. 아직 완벽히 만족스럽진 않지만, 쓸만해요. 다빈치로 편집까지 해볼까 싶긴한데, 아직 기초적인 기능밖에 없는 느낌이라 편의성이 좀 떨어지고, 프리미어도 가벼운 툴이 아닌데, 다빈치는 훨씬 무겁습니다. 그만큼 하드웨서 스펙을 많이 따지는 애라서 좀 부담되요. 어떻게 끝내야될지 모르겠는데, 하여튼 제가 주섬주섬 모아둔 편집툴 썰 풀어봤습니다. 요즘 애플 S/W는 맞춰야되는 하드웨어 스펙이 고정되어 있다는 점에 3천배는 해야... macOS부터 총체적 난국인데 그나마 이게 애플 H/W에서만 돌아간다는 전제가 있으니 다행이죠
