 아내와 오랜만에 코엑스에 영화보러 갔고.. 점심을 먹고 영화를 볼 거라서 어디서 먹을까 고민하던 와중 아내가 추천해줘서 삼성역 2번 출구 인근에 있는 중앙해장에 방문하게 되었습니다. 직장인 식사시간이 겹쳐서 자리가 없으면 어쩌나 싶었는데, 다행히 빈 자리가 있어서 바로 앉았네요. 앉자마자 양선지해장국 2개 시켰습니다. .. 사실 전 동물의 내장 부위 먹는 것을 무척 좋아합니다. 간, 처녑, 곱창, 순대, 고니, 이리 등등.. 일반적인 고기 부위와는 다른.. 진하면서도 구수한 맛이 참 매력적이더라고요. 그런데 내장 부위를 맛있게 먹기 위해서는 몇 가지 제약이 달라붙죠. '신선'해야 하고, 제대로 '손질'해줘야 맛있게 먹을 수 있는 경우가 많죠. 아무래도 생명체 중에서 가장 썩기 쉬운 곳이기 때문이기도 하고.. 냄새나는 것들이 안에 들어있기도 하기 때문이겠지요. 그러다 보니 내장을 손질할 때에는 '냄새'를 잡는 것이 무척 중요한 일입니다. 그런데 간혹.. 손질을 어떻게 했는지는 몰라도 냄새가 전혀 안나는 경우가 가끔 있더라고요. 사실 이런 경우 저는 좀 불안합니다. 냄새를 잡기 위해 몸에 안 좋은 무엇인가를 쓰지는 않았을까 하는 걱정 때문에요. 그리고.. 개인적으로는 내장에서 나는 약간의 누린내를 오히려 조금 좋아하기도 합니다. 냄새가 심하지만 않다면 오히려 적당히 누린내가 나야 식욕이 더 땡긴다랄까요. .. 잡설이 좀 길어졌군요. -ㅅ-)a 주문한 해장국이 나왔습니다. 일단 냄새를 맡는데.. 다른 프렌차이즈 해장국집과 비교하자면 누린내가 좀 나는 편이더군요. 국물 맛을 봅니다. 국물은 빨갛지만 매운 맛이 거의 느껴지지 않는.. 깔끔하면서 구수한 느낌의 국물입니다. (매운 것을 원하는 사람들을 위해 절인고추와 고추기름을 아예 테이블에 놔뒀더군요.) 처음 뚝배기가 왔을 때 누린내가 좀 났지만 해장국을 먹는 중에는 누린내를 별로 느끼지 못했습니다. 매운맛이나 조미료 맛으로 약점을 숨기기 보다는 좋은 재료를 믿고 단점이 보이건 말건 정면승부로 다가오는 느낌입니다. 해장국에 내용물도 제법 실합니다. 선지 두 덩이에 우거지랑 콩나물 약간.. 그리고 소 위장 부위가 엄청 들어가있더군요. 밥 한 공기 말아서 다 먹을 때까지 한 수저 뜰 때마다 소 위장 부위가 1~2개씩은 들어가있더라고요. 처음에 해장국 뚝배기를 받고 누린내가 살짝 났었는데, 내장 부위가 이 정도 들어가있는데 누린내가 안나면 그거야 말로 말이 안 되겠더라고요. 내장 부위들을 겨자 풀은 간장에 찍어서 먹는데, 이거 좋아하시는 분들은 꼭 한 번 와보셔야 할 것 같네요. 양도 엄청 많고, 질도 괜찮더군요. 기분 좋게 잘 먹었습니다. 국물도 참 매력적이었습니다. 양과 선지가 구수한 맛을 내주고, 우거지와 콩나물이 시원한 맛을 내줍니다. 벽에 개인 취향에 따라 절인 고추 다진 것이나 고추 기름을 넣어서 먹으라는데 안 넣고 먹어도 너무 맛있더라고요. 반쯤 먹고 이것 저것 조금씩 넣어보면서 맛을 보는데 제 취향으로는 그냥 아무 것도 안 넣고 깔끔한 상태로 먹는 것이 제일 나았습니다. 반찬은 깍두기랑 김치 딱 두 가지인데, 기본은 하는 맛이었고 무엇보다 달지 않고 너무 짜거나 맵지도 않아서 참 좋더군요. .. 가격이 8천원이었지만 정말 만족스러웠습니다. 최근 몇 년 사이에 먹었던 국밥 종류 중에 인상 깊었던 곳이 하동관, 능라, 삼백집 정도인데.. 하동관 갈래, 중앙해장 갈래 하고 물어보면.. 무척 고민을 해야 결정을 내릴 수 있을 것 같습니다. 결정을 내린다 하더라도 그 날의 날씨와 컨디션에 따라 결정을 내리지 맛으로 평가하긴 어려울 것 같네요. .. 해장국 맛이 범상치 않아서 오래된 곳인가 했는데.. 사실 생긴지 얼마 안 된 집이라서 더욱 놀랐습니다. 맛있어보이네요. 제 경험으로는 잡내 제거에는 정향만한 게 없더라고요. 한 두 알만 넣어줘도 어지간한 향들은 다 제거가 될 정도로 효과가 강력합니다. 문제는 정향 향에 익숙하지 않은 사람들의 경우 잡내보다 정향 향을 더 싫어한다는 것 정도? 근데 익숙해지면 색다른 풍미로 느껴질 수 있는 것인지라. 괜히 향신료가 아니겠죠.
