 제가 구밀복검님이 진행하시는 팟캐스트 애청자라서 어제 새로 올라온 방송을 들었는데요. 어제는 대만의 영화 [그 시절, 우리가 좋아했던 소녀]라는 작품이었어요. 저는 영화는 닥치는 대로 보는 스타일은 아니고 약간의 검증을 거치고 나서야 보는 편이라 이 영화 역시 보지는 않고 방송만 들었습니다. 구밀복검님 스타일이 마음에 안드는, 또는 그다지 좋지 않은 작품에는 거의 말을 아끼다 마지막 즈음에 별한두개 적선하고(?) 악평과 함께 방송을 끝내는(크크크크크크) 스타일인지라 이 영화도 그리 좋은 평은 못받았네요. 아침에 출근하면서 방송 듣고 이런 저런 생각을 하다가 첫사랑에 관한 좋은 영화 서사로 무엇이 있을까 하는 고민했는데 제가 기억해 낸 건 [초속 5센티미터]였거든요. 이 짤막한 애니는 유튜브에서도 볼 수 있는 지라 어제 밤에 다시 한 번 보았는데, 이 작품은 지나간 첫사랑에 관한 것이기도 하지만 어떻게 보면 주인공인 다카키를 통해 재구성해내는 한 인물의 정체성에 관한 이야기라는 생각도 들었습니다. 말하자면, 다카키는 [미지를 향해 계속해서 손을 뻗는 사람]인 것이죠. 다카키는 히카리를 향해 손을 뻗지요. 전학에 전학을 거듭하며 멀어지는 히카리를 향해 가서(눈오는 날 연착에 연착을 거듭해 작은 역에서 히카리와 조우하는 순간 폭풍눈물 ㅠㅠ) 결국 그녀와 잊을 수 없는 첫키스를 나누지만 다카키는 [그녀를 어디로 데려가야할지 몰라] 이내 슬퍼진다고 고백하지요. 히카리와의 첫키스를 나눈 순간에 그에게는 운명 또는 자신의 정체성과의 짧은 일별이 이루어진 것이죠. 그에게 내려진 히카리의 물질성(또는 다카키의 미래)은 슬픔입니다. 두번째 에피소드 역시 마찬가지입니다. 다카키를 짝사랑하는 카나에는 다카키가 [계속해서 미지의 무언가를 향해 손을 내미는] 사람이라는 것을 깨닫고 결국 오랫동안 숨겨왔던 자신의 마음을 고백하려는 생각을 접지요. 카나에의 시점에서 이루어지는 이 에피소드에서 다카키는 매우 조숙하고 초연합니다. 평범하게 또는 느린 성장을 하며 짝사랑에 가슴을 졸이고 있는 카나에에게, 그런 다카키가 어렵게 느껴졌을 것은 너무도 당연하지요. 세번째 에피소드에서 다카키는 성장기로부터 자신이 희구해온 것이 모두 끝났다는 것을 알고 단지 하루를 보내는 것만으로도 [슬픔이 쌓여 간다]고 고백하지요. 이 작품 전반을 통해 소급된 첫사랑을 둘러싼 자신의 과거와 정체성에 관한 이야기는 결국, 히카리와의 짧은 키스를 통해 자신의 미래가 집약되어 다가온 거대한 슬픔과 카나에의 시점으로 이루어진 다카키의 정체성에 관한 재확인 그리고 이 모든 이야기들이 완결되는 순간 다카키의 무력으로 집약될 것입니다. 일을 그만두고 길을 걷던 다카키가 편의점에 들어선 순간 나오는 음악 참 좋죠. [One more time, One more chance]였던가요? 결국 우리의 과거란 하나의 단어를 둘러싼 희미한 기억의 이미지일지도 모릅니다. 우리가 과거를 소급할 때 그 실체란 진실과는 거리가 있을 겁니다. 기억이란 시간을 꽤뚫어내는 진실과는 거리가 멉니다. 오히려 그저 희구하는 순간 새롭게 각색되는 서사이고, 이 서사에는 진실은 아닐지언정 자신이 자신에게 내린 어떤 선고와도 같은 텍스트가 입혀져 있지요. 그러므로 기억을 통해 자신의 정체성을 구성하고자한다면 우리는 종종 슬퍼질지도 모르겠습니다. 다카키처럼 현실과 어떤 괴리가 느껴질테니까요. 여러분들께 좋은 첫사랑의 서사는 어떤 것이 있을까요? 쓰고나니 질문이 너무 긴데요... 읽는데 괴로우시겠어요. 죄송합니당...
