안녕하세요, 개인신상이 드러나기 쉬운 질문이라 비익명에 두루뭉술한 질문을 할까 익명에 좀 더 자세한 이야기를 쓸까 고민하다 후자를 선택했습니다. 양해 부탁드립니다. 일단 저는.. 별 생각없이 굴러다니다보니 대학원에 가게 되었고, 어쩌다보니 과분하게도 대학에서 조교수를 하고 있습니다. 어떻게든 되겠지 하는 생각으로 살아왔는데, 결혼을 하고 예쁜 아이를 키우다 보니 생각이 많아지네요.. 인생 계획의 벼락치기를 시도하고 있습니다. 공대에 있으며, 모은 돈도 딱히 없는 상황입니다. 대학을 나가서 본격적으로 돈을 벌어야 할지, 테뉴어를 목표로 쭉 달려야 할 지 고민이 됩니다. (주변을 보면 많은 교수님들께서는 고소득 전문직 배우자와 결혼하시고 경제적인 걱정은 딱히 하지 않으시는 것 같으시던데 저는 그런 상황은 아닙니다) 개인적인 가치관으로는 물 좋고 공기 맑은 곳에서 주택 짓고 가정적인 남편과 아빠로 사는 것이 이상이며 커리어 등은 크게 관심이 없습니다. 물론 교원으로서 누릴 수 있는 것들, 직업안정성 등도 좋지만 퇴근 후 집에서도 학생들을 챙기고 연구나 프로젝트, 기타 업무를 봐야 하는 상황이 잦아 가정에 미안함을 느낍니다. 거기다 교수 월급이 빠르게 오르는 것도 아니라 차라리 필드에 나가서 돈을 벌고 퇴근 후에는 아이와 놀아주고 가정에 전념할 수 있도록 하는게 좋지 않을까 고민이 됩니다. (교수 월급으로 과연 둘째 셋째를 생각할 수 있는 것인지...) 한편으론 의대(병원) 쪽에 들어가 돈도 더 받으면서 수업도 덜 할 수 있도록 해볼까 고민도 해봅니다만 그 경우에는 좋은 자연환경을 포기해야 하고 아파트에 살며 자식 교육...에 신경을 쓸 일이 많을 것 같습니다. 선배 교수님들은 어떤 부분에서 직업이 만족스러우신가요? 앞으로의 진로 결정에 참고하고 싶습니다.
