은 어디에 써먹을 수 있을까요? 누구나 잘하는 게 있잖아요. 타고났든 노력으로 얻었든. 평균의 인간에 비해 절대적으로 잘하는 거 말고, 내 주변에 비해 상대적으로 잘하는, 그런 비교우위적 능력치요. 예를 들어 운동 신경이 좋다든지, 꼼꼼하고 섬세하다던지, 수학을 잘한다던지, 추상적 사고를 잘한다던지, 창의적이라던지, 시험공부를 잘한다던지, 논리적 구조를 잘 파악한다던지... 정말 많고 많은 능력들이 있겠죠. 그리고 사람들은 그런 자기 능력치를 활용하며(취미든 직업이든) 살아갈텐데 여기서 궁금증이 생깁니다. 고민해본 결과 제가 가진 가장 큰 능력치는 사람의 마음을 얻는 능력입니다. 그런데 이게 조금... 이 능력이 어떤 잠재적 효용이 있는지 너무 추상적으로 느껴져서... 이게 (직업적인 영역에서) 어떤 쓸모가 있을지 모르겠습니다. 꼼꼼한 사람은 데이터 같은 걸 다루는 일을 하면 잘할 거고, 시험공부를 잘하면 좋은 대학과 좋은 직장에 들어가기 쉬울 텐데. 사람의 마음을 잘 얻는 건... 그래도 저게 제가 가진 능력 중 가장 능력치가 높은 것인데 잘 활용할 수 있었으면 좋겠습니다. 이곳엔 다양한 직군의 회원님들이 있을 테니까...회원님들의 다양한 경험에서 도움을 얻을 수 있지 않을까 해서 질문합니다. 참고로 사람의 마음을 얻는 능력이 뭔지 애매할 수 있어서 설명을 덧붙입니다. <데일 카네기 인간관계론>은 원제가 ’친구를 만들고 사람을 설득하는 법‘이라고 합니다. 그렇다면 인간관계론이란 ’상대의 인간적인 호감을 얻고, 상대가 내 말을 따르도록 하는 이론‘일텐데 그런 의미에서 인간관계에 능합니다. 저는 눈치가 빠르고 사회성이 무척 발달되어있어서 특정 사회적 상황에서 어떻게 행동하고 말하는 게 최선일지에 대한 감이 좋습니다. 내가 A라고 말하면 상대가 B하게 돼서 C라는 효과가 발생하겠지 같은 식의 상황판단이 무의식적으로 늘 돌아가고 있는 것 같습니다(그래서 설득을 잘합니다). 유머감각이 좋아서 제 옆에 있는 사람을 웃게 만듭니다. 관찰력이 섬세해서 상대의 욕구를 잘 파악하고 충족시켜줍니다. 마음에 드는 이성을 못 꼬신 적이 없고, 친구관계도 엄청 좋습니다. 조직생활도 잘해서 알바하면 상급자들이 많이 좋아해주십니다. 교수님들과의 관계도 좋습니다. 얼마 전 처음 방문한 식당에 손님이 저밖에 없어서 식사하면서 대화를 했는데, 사장님이 ”자기는 사람 참 편안하게 만드는 재주가 있다. 처음 본 사람한테 별말을 다하게 되네. 이런 말 자주 듣지?“ 하는 말을 들었습니다. 생각해보니 연인이나 새로 만난 사람들로부터 저랑 같이 있으면 마음이 편안해진다는 피드백을 많이들 들어왔습니다. 이 능력 덕분에 제 사회적인 삶에서는 이점을 많이 보고 있습니다. 사람들과의 관계가 좋으니까요... 다만 이 능력이 그 이상의 확장성은 없는지. 직업적으로 써먹을 수 있는 여지는 없는 건지... 친구들은 자기 능력을 활용해서 진로를 결정하는데. 저는 가진 능력이 이것이라...진로 고민이 많은 대학생으로서 질문을 올려봅니다.
