1편 - 행마와 규칙 (https://new.redtea.kr/pb/pb.php?id=recommended&no=1035) 2편 - 수읽기 (https://new.redtea.kr/pb/pb.php?id=free&no=11251) 안녕하세요 저번편은 많은 분들이 좀 심심해했을거 같습니다. 체스를 둘 줄 안다고 생각하는 사람이라면 어렵지 않게 풀 만한 문제들만, 아주 기초적인 개념만 설명하기 위해 올려놨으니까요. 이번 편부터는 많은 분들께 좀 새로운 내용들이 나올거 같습니다. 경험이 쌓이면 저절로 체득하는 지식들이지만 혹시 모를 수 있는, 중요한 정보들 위주로 올릴 거거든요. 이 글에서 잡다한 용어/기초적인 전략들을 설명하고, 다음편에는 엔드게임에서 게임을 끝내는 방법, 그 다음엔 오프닝에 대해 쓸 생각입니다. 전략 1. 이기고 있다면 교환을 노려라 (지고 있다면 교환을 피해라) 상대의 기물 중 하나를 빼고 시작한다면 (나이트, 비숍 등), 전 상대가 저보다 훨씬 잘하는 사람이라도 이길 자신이 있습니다.  게임 초중반에 상대가 실수로 나이트 하나를 버리고 시작했다 칩시다. (위 상황) 그러면 전 최선의 수를 찾기보단 상대의 기물과 제 기물을 동등하게 교환하는 데 집중할 거에요. 만약 그렇게 해서 폰을 제외한 모든 기물을 동등하게 교환하면 나중엔 어떻게 될까요?  이렇게 되고, 백은 혼자 마이너 피스를 갖고 있다는 장점을 살려 수월한 엔드게임을 진행하게 됩니다. 마이너 피스는 변수입니다. 맨 위 상황처럼 초중반이라면 흑백의 실력에 따라 상황이 비슷해지거나 오히려 흑에게 유리하게 넘어갈 수도 있습니다. 그러므로 이기고 있는 백은 교환을 통해 변수를 줄이고, 지고 있는 흑은 손해를 보지 않는 선에서 교환을 피하며 상대의 빈틈을 노려야 합니다. 용어 1. 더블 폰 (doubled pawns)  a4, b5: 연결된 폰. d2, d3: 고립된 더블 폰. g2, g3, h3: 고립되지 않은 더블 폰 더블 폰은 폰 두 개가 세로로 같은 줄에 있을 때 부르는 말입니다. 더블 폰은 대체로 좋지 않은데요, 그 이유는 폰의 고유한 행마와 공격 경로에 있습니다. 폰은 대각선으로만 공격을 합니다. 그 말은, 폰이 다른 폰을 보호하기 위해선 서로서로 대각선으로 이어져야 한다는 말이죠.  위 장면에서, 백이 아무 것도 움직이지 않는다는 가정 하에, 흑이 피해 없이 공격할 수 있는 백의 폰은 맨 뒤에 있는 b4 폰 뿐입니다. a5와 c5에 있는 폰 둘 다 b4의 폰이 보호하고 있기 때문이죠.  하지만 폰이 세로로 연결됐다면 어떨까요? 서로 보호해주지는 못하는데 심지어 뒤의 폰은 앞으로 나가지도 못하는 바보 같은 상황이 만들어지는 겁니다. 위 장면의 a4와 a5 폰은 서로를 전혀 지탱해주지 못하고 있습니다. 상황에 따라 뒤의 폰이 아예 없느니만 못한 존재가 되기도 합니다. 그럼 더블 폰은 무조건 손해냐? 그렇진 않습니다. 상황에 따라선 그닥 나쁘지 않거나, 오히려 좋을 때도 있습니다. 애초에 더블 폰이 기물을 잃는 것 만큼 나쁜 일도 아니고요.  fxe3을 두면 나오는 더블 폰입니다. 이 수로 백은 여러 가지를 이루는데요, 룩의 공격경로가 열렸고 (f열), 흑이 d4로 다른 말을 보낼 수 없게 됐습니다. 거기다 백이 원하면 손해 없이 폰을 d4로 올릴 수도 있습니다.  다른 상황에서, 킹 사이드 캐슬링 이후 fxg3을 두면 이런 모양이 나옵니다. 백의 폰 구조는 분명 더블 폰이지만, 그 덕에 킹이 위치한 구석이 폰에게 철저히 보호받는 안정적인 상황입니다. g3의 폰은 다른 폰에게 보호받지 못하지만, 킹이 h2로 움직인 뒤에는 비교적 안전해집니다. 유의해야 할 점은, 고립된 더블 폰 (isolated doubled pawns)은 정말 어지간해선 좋지 않다는 점입니다. 제가 좋은 예시로 든 두 장면 모두 더블 폰이 다른 폰과 연결돼 있다는 점에 유의해 주세요. 더블 폰이 고립되면 둘 다 다른 폰의 지원을 받지 못하기 때문에 어쩔 수 없는 상황이 아니면 이런 구조를 피해야 합니다. 전략 2. 오프닝, 왜 룩을 안 쓰나요?  장기와 체스를 비교하면 드는 흔한 의문 중 하나는, 왜 룩을 중반까지 안 쓰느냐는 겁니다. 장기에서 최강의 기물인 차와 정확히 같은 룩은 체스에서는 그만한 위상을 보이지 못합니다. 특히 초중반에 룩을 많이 움직이는 경우는 없다고 해도 무방합니다. 오프닝에 대해 설명할 때 다시 나오겠지만, 초반에는 룩은 얌전히 놔두고 폰, 비숍과 나이트를 바쁘게 움직입니다. 이는 폰이 대각선으로 공격한다는 특성 + 여타 마이너 피스에 비해 월등한 룩의 가치 때문입니다. 은근히 좁아터진 체스판에 16개나 있는 폰은 서로를 지지하기 위해 대부분 대각선으로 자리를 잡는데, 룩이 뭔가를 해보겠다고 초반에 중앙으로 나오면 폰에 치이고 마이너 피스에 치이다가 아무 것도 못하는 상황이 자주 나옵니다. 그렇다고 화딱지가 나서(?) 상대의 마이너 피스와 교환을 하면 중후반의 막강한 룩의 위력에 지게 됩니다.  초반에 룩을 내보내서 뭘 하려고 한다면 대충 위와 같은 장면이 나오게 됩니다.. 붉은 칸은 백의 마이너 피스/폰에게 공격받는 칸들이고, 룩이 손해 없이 공격할 수 있는 흑의 기물은 하나도 없습니다. 룩이 움직일 수 있는 공간도 엄청나게 제한돼 있죠? 이런 이유 때문에 룩은 중후반부에 마이너 피스와 폰이 없어지고 넓은 공간이 주어질 때 최고의 위력을 발휘합니다. 마이너 피스는 상황이 다릅니다. 말들을 자유롭게 뛰어넘어 다니는 나이트는 물론이고, 폰 사이를 대각선으로 지나다니는 비숍은 초중반에 폰이 많더라도 움직임에 제약이 적습니다. 전략 3. A knight on the rim is dim (구석의 나이트는 구리다) 마이너/메이저 피스를 통틀어 이동거리에 제약이 있는 기물은 나이트 뿐입니다. 그 때문에 양 사이드 끝은 나이트에게 좋지 않은 위치입니다. 비숍, 룩, 퀸은 체스판 끝에서 끝까지 이동이 가능하기 때문에 모서리에 붙어도 좋은 자리일 때가 많습니다.  ->  예를 들어 볼까요? 만약 흑이 나이트를 진출시키겠다고 왼쪽처럼 Nh6을 둔다면, 백이 h3을 둡니다 (오른쪽). 그 다음 나이트가 갈 수 있는 곳은 어디일까요? g4는 h3의 폰에게 공격받고 있고, 결국 그 자리에서 기다리거나 원래 자리인 g8로 돌아가야 하는데 이는 당연히 시간만 낭비하는 악수입니다.  ->  가끔 초보들이 시작부터 나이트를 Nh6, Na6 등의 구석 자리로 진출시키는 실수를 하곤 합니다. 이 경우에 Bxh6 gxh6으로 진행되면 (오른쪽) 백은 고립된 더블 폰이 구석에 있는 채로 게임을 시작하고, 실력이 비슷하다면 흑의 훨씬 더 수월한 게임을 진행하게 됩니다. 저 같으면 묻지도 따지지도 않고 이 교환을 합니다. (백 입장) 용어 2. 아웃포스트 (outpost) 아웃포스트란 1. (주로) 마이너 피스가 2. 중요한 위치에 자리잡고 3. 폰에게 보호받는 상황을 뜻합니다. 아웃포스트는 상대의 선택지를 줄이는 데 엄청난 역할을 합니다. 상대의 아웃포스트를 없애려면 해당하는 마이너 피스를 폰으로 쫓아내거나, 그 기물을 보호하는 폰을 제거하거나, 내 마이너 피스로 교환을 하거나, 이도저도 안되면 룩 같은 기물로 손해보는 교환을 하는 수밖에 없습니다.  엠마누엘 라스커 vs 호세 라울 카파블랑카의 대국 중 한 장면입니다. e6에 있는 백의 나이트는 훌륭한 아웃포스트의 예시입니다. 당장 d8의 룩을 공격하고 있고, 가뜩이나 좁아터진 흑 진영 안의 공간을 완전히 장악하고 있죠. 흑이 이걸 나이트로 쫓아내려면 Nc8 Na7 Nb5 Nc7을 거쳐야 하는데, 그동안 백은 놀고 있는 게 아니잖아요. 결국 저 나이트는 자그마치 21수 동안이나 저 자리에 버티고 앉아서 단물을 쪽쪽 빨며 흑을 괴롭히다가 나이트-룩 교환을 강제하고 산화합니다. 아웃포스트는 체스 실력의 척도라고 봐도 무방합니다. 무방비 상태의 기물을 퀸으로 쓸어버리는 건 누구나 할 수 있어요. 하지만 적진 한복판에 나이트나 비숍을 떡하니 박아두고 상대의 숨통을 죄여가는 플레이를 할 수 있다면, 그제서야 체스 좀 둔다는 소리를 들을 수 있게 됩니다. 용어/전략. Passed pawn 와 이거 우리말로 뭐라고 불러야 할까요 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 지나간 폰? 지난 폰? 위키피디아에도 없고 네이버에 쳐봐도 안 나오니 제 마음대로 “지나간 폰”이라 부르겠습니다. 지나간 폰의 정의는 이렇습니다. ‘상대의 폰에게 공격받거나 경로가 [막힐 수 없는] 폰’ 그러니까, 당장 공격받고 있지 않아도 저 앞에 상대의 폰이 있으면 지나간 폰이 아닙니다.  예시: 위 그림에서 지나간 폰은 백의 f4, 흑의 c5 폰 둘입니다. 지나간 폰이 중요한 이유는 [진급]이라는 특성입니다. 폰은 상대방 진영의 끝에 도달하면 즉시 원하는 기물 (나이트, 비숍, 룩, 퀸)로 변하는데, 상대한테 퀸을 두 개 준다고 생각하면 얼마나 위협적인지 알게 됩니다. 1편에도 썼지만, 지나간 폰의 가치는 엄청나기 때문에 오만가지 어그로를 끌게 됩니다. 존재 자체만으로 한쪽이 유리하다고 볼 수도 있고요. 그렇기 때문에 상대에게 지나간 폰이 있다면 그 폰을 없애기 위해 총력을 기울이게 됩니다. 역으로 상대는 지나간 폰을 살려서 이득을 보는데 집중할 거고요. 근데 만약에 그 폰을 피해 없이 없애지 못한다면???  흑의 입장에서는 한숨이 푹푹 나오는 상황입니다. c4에 있는 백의 지나간 폰은 b3폰에게, b3 폰은 a2 폰에게 보호받고 있기 때문에 a2를 잡기 전엔 아무 것도 할 수가 없거든요. 백이 큰 실수를 하지 않는 이상 지나간 폰의 이점을 살려 승리하게 될 겁니다. 여기서 흑의 최선은 a4로 백의 폰 라인을 망가뜨린 뒤 b3의 폰을 노리거나, 백의 킹 쪽에 총공격을 가해 어떻게든 변수를 만드는 정도입니다. 그나마 미드게임에서는 어그로탱킹이란 말이 쓰이지, 엔드게임에서 지나간 폰은 그냥 게임을 끝내는 수준입니다.  좀 전과 같은 장면에서 폰을 제외한 기물을 없앤 상황입니다. 이제 백의 c4 폰의 직진을 막을 수 있는 건 흑의 킹뿐인데, 그러므로 킹은 c4 폰의 곁을 떠날 수가 없어요. 백 킹이 오른쪽에서 흑의 폰 세개를 다 잡아먹어도 할 수 있는 게 없어요. 만에 하나 흑이 a2 폰을 잡으러 간다? 한 칸씩밖에 움직이지 못하는 뚜벅이 킹은 c4 폰의 행진을 막을 수 없습니다. 7. 기타 자주 쓰이는 용어들 * 갬빗 (gambit) 갬빗은 기물을 희생해서 그 대가로 포지션상의 이득을 얻는 초반 전략입니다. 잘봤습니다. 체스닷컴에서 블리츠 2천판정도 해 보니 제 성향이 보이더라구요.
제 전략은
1. 초반에 최대한 폰 전진해서 압박+엔드게임에서 진급 노리기
2. 개인당 주어진 시간이 총 2분밖에 안되니 최대한 내 차례에서 빨리 둬서 시간으로 압박하고 상대 두는 시간에 생각하기
3. 빨리둬야 하니 같은 기물은 최대한 교환하고 특히 폰 하나라도 더 잡아 내가 유리하면 더욱 압박하여 교환하기
4. 복잡한 퀸의 행마를 예상하기 힘들고 나도 잘 못 쓰니 퀸도 교환하기
5. 이렇게 해서 기물 하나둘, 폰 두셋만 남는 엔드게임으로 유도해서... 더 보기
