오늘은 양대 콘솔 진영은 MS의 XO와 소니의 PS4가 모두 컨퍼런스를 가졌는데요. 만족스러운 일정이었습니다. XO, PS4 진영 모두 팬들이 환호할만한 신작이 많았네요. 오히려 중간에 있었던 EA와 유비소프트 발표가 무척이나 허전했습니다.(사실 둘 다 올해는 그렇게까지 기대할만한 신작도 없었고요.) XO 쪽에서 가장 인상 깊었던 부분은 구 기기인 360과의 자유로운 하위 호환 구동, 입이 딱 벌어지게 만드는 신형 엘리트 패드와 홀로 렌즈 정도였습니다. 제가 XO 팬이었다면 당장이라도 사고 싶게 만드는 발표였습니다. 그리고 PS4 쪽에서도 이미 압도적인 1인자가 된 상황에서 콜 오브 듀티 같은 인기작을 대부분 가져오는 데 성공했다는 점과 쉔무와 파이널 판타지 같은 고전 게임의 후속작이나 리메이크 발표가 인상적이었고요. 1. 라이즈 오브 더 툼레이더 MS에서 전략적 제휴로 XO 기간 독점이 된 툼 레이더의 후속작입니다. 물론 기간만 지나면 PS4와 PC로도 발매되므로 저도 기대하고 있고요. 이번 발표로 공개된 라이즈 오브 더 툼레이더는 충분히 인상적이었습니다. 언차티드 같은 훌륭한 경쟁작과 비교해도 모자름이 없어 보일 정도로요. 2. 스타워즈 배틀프론트 다소 우려가 드는 신작이었는데, 일단 플레이 영상은 나쁘진 않았습니다. 스타워즈 팬들이 좋아할만한 연출도 들어갔고, 무엇보다 스타워즈 내에 인기 캐릭터들을 직접 조종해볼 수 있는 시스템을 마련했다는 점도 배틀프론트의 장점입니다. 그러나 여전히 기대는 되지만, 20 대 20의 적은 인원 수와 배틀필드 시리즈와 비교해서 부족하지 않을까 싶은 컨텐츠의 양에 대해서는 좀 더 보완이 필요하지 않을까 싶네요. 3. 매스 이펙트 안드로메다 개인적으로 가장 처음 나왔던 매스 이펙트 신작이 EA 발표 중에서 제일 좋았습니다. 물론 아직 한참 개발 중인 신작이라서 제대로 된 플레이 영상도 공개되지 않았지만, 매스 이펙트 3까지 전 시리즈를 재미있게 즐긴 입장에선 이 시리즈가 계속 이어나간다는 점, 전작과 별개로 이어나가는 후속작이란 점에서 좋았습니다. 특히 1편처럼 행성 탐험 및 개척을 소재로 한 후속작이라면 비록 2편과 3편이 잘 만들어졌어도 1편 같은 스페이스 오페라를 원했던 팬들에겐 더욱 좋을 것 같네요. 4. 톰 클랜시의 고스트 리콘 와일드랜드 미리 정보가 풀리지 않아서 깜짝 발표된 신작인데요. 고스트리콘 시리즈는 최신작인 퓨처 솔저가 이도 저도 아닌 완성도로 무너졌습니다. 이후로 후속작이 한참동안 언급되지 않았다가 올해는 기존 시리즈와 전혀 다른 게임이 되었습니다. 광활한 오픈 월드고, 수많은 범죄자나 테러리스트를 플레이어의 특수부대가 차근차근 공략해나간다는 컨셉은 독창적이진 않지만, 괜찮은 시도 같습니다. 물론 지금의 모습은 구상에 가까울 뿐, 아직 언제 나올지도 모르므로 실제 게임은 많이 달라지지 않을까 싶네요. 대신 유비소프트가 독창성도 없고, 개선도 없는 신작을 계속 내놓기만 하고 있어서 걱정인데 좀 더 나은 모습을 보여주었으면 하네요. 5. 콜 오브 듀티 블랙 옵스 3 멀티플레이는 전작인 AW와 비교해서 회피 부스트를 삭제하고 슬라이딩 점프나 벽 넘기 중에도 자유로운 각도로 사격이 가능하게 만든 점은 사소하지만 좋은 변화입니다. 전반적으로 AW에 비해서 활공 시간을 줄이고, 좀 더 땅에 붙어서 싸우는 기존의 콜 오브 듀티에 가깝고요. 그리고 타이탄폴에서도 선보였던 벽타기도 어느 정도는 강조하고 있는데요. 이 점은 맵 구성이 중요해보입니다. 그리고 역대 시리즈 중에서 제일 다채로운 무기 개조 시스템은 AW에서 욕만 먹었던 서플라이 드랍보다 몇 배는 나은 시스템이네요. 그리고 싱글플레이는 전 구간에 걸쳐서 4인 협동이 가능한 캠페인 모드를 선보였습니다. 제 기준에는 AW조차 실험적인 성격이 강했고, 모던 워페어에서 크게 벗어나지 못한 게임이었는데요. 이번 블랙 옵스 3가 모던 워페어 이후로 가장 변화가 많은 신작이 되지 않을까 기대됩니다. 6. 파이널 판타지 7 리메이크 개인적으로 쉔무보다도 PS4 발표에서 가장 화끈했던 신작이었습니다. 불과 얼마 전까지만 해도 우려먹는 수준의 파이널 판타지 7 리마스터를 보고 스퀘어 에닉스에 대해서도 정말 안 좋게 생각했는데, 옛 추억이 담긴 명작을 써먹으려면 이 정도는 되야죠. 그리고 홀로렌즈는 말씀 듣고 늦게 찾아봤는데.. 와 게임 기술로 순수하게 놀란게 참 오랫만이네요. 대단하고 게임보다 다른쪽 응용이 더욱 기대됩니다. 특히 수술 시뮬레이터 같은건 완전 대박이겠어요... 기존 VR이 갖고 있던 문제점의 해결책이라고나 할까.. 실제로 한번 체험하고 싶네요.
