 E3에서 화려하게 공개된 메탈 기어 솔리드 V: 더 팬텀 페인(이하 팬텀 페인)은 아마도 당분간 게임계에서 가장 큰 논란거리를 만들어낸 게임이 될 겁니다. 리뷰 엠바고가 풀리자마자 찬사를 받았다는 점 정도는 별로 중요해보이지 않을 정도로요. 데모 수준의 그라운드 제로즈를 30달러 넘게 팔아치운 건 오래도록 남을 추태였습니다. 덕분에 코지마 히데오는 엄청난 비난을 받았습니다만, 그게 결국 상업적인 부분 밖에 신경 쓰지 않았던 코나미의 만행이란 것이 드러났죠. 그리고 이러한 마찰은 코지마 히데오가 메인 커버에서의 이름을 장식하는 것조차 금지 당했습니다. 마치 끔찍한 죄를 저지른 사람마냥 취급하고 있습니다. 아무리 상업적인 부분도 신경 써야 하고, 그 부분에서 코지마 히데오가 타협해야 했던 부분이 있었더라도 코나미의 행동은 비난 받아 마땅합니다. 그러나 그렇다고 해서 '코나미가 유통하니까 이 게임은 안 할거야'라고 말할 수는 없죠. 특히 개발진이 직접 인터뷰나 SNS를 통해서 부디 게임을 즐겨달라고 밝히기도 했고요. 기대되는 부분은 아직 각종 리뷰나 플레이 영상을 전혀 보지 않고 있지만, 꽤 많습니다. 개발진은 이 작품의 장르명을 Tactical Espionage Operations라고 칭하고 있는데요. 간단하게 풀어보자면 첩보 잠입에 중점을 둔 전술적인 게임이란 뜻이겠죠. 다양한 장비 선택과 작전 선택을 통해서 주요 시설 침투나 파괴공작 등을 해내는 게임플레이가 주가 되는 걸 고려하면 좀 과하긴 해도 적절한 이름으로 보입니다. 특히 Espionage란 단어는 첩보원의 활약을 다룬 영화에 쓰이는 장르명이기도 한데요. 코지마 히데오가 영화광이라서 나올 수 있는 표현인 것 같기도 하네요. 특히 저는 플레이해보지 않았습니다만, 영상만 보고서 게임의 전반적인 흐름을 거의 알게 될 지경이었던 전작 4편을 반복하지 않겠다고 말한 코지마 히데오의 인터뷰만 봐도 충분히 더 좋은 게임이 될 수 있지 않나 싶네요. 그리고 그라운드 제로즈 때도 현 세대에 어울리는 그래픽 퍼포먼스를 보여주고도, 괜찮은 PC 최적화(사실 요즘 PC 시장에서 제대로 된 최적화를 보여주는 일본 개발사는 세가 밖에 안 보일 지경이죠.)도 저에겐 긍정적인 부분입니다. 또 멀티플레이는 메탈 기어 온라인이란 이름으로 내년에 나올 예정인데요. 이것도 꽤 기대하고 있습니다. 사전 인터뷰로 추가 결제 없이 플레이가 가능하다고 언급했고, 비록 DLC 정도는 있을지 모르겠습니다만, 어느 정도는 감수할 수 있는 부분이니까요. 뿐만 아니라, PvP 기반의 멀티플레이 모드 자체가 본편에 포함되어 있다고 하니 양적인 측면에서도 기대됩니다. 개인적으로는 PC 유저라서 이 프랜차이즈를 즐겨본 적이 거의 없습니다. 유일하게 해본 건 PC로도 나왔던 1편 뿐입니다. 그렇다 보니 이 시리즈가 가진 긴 줄거리에 대해서 전혀 알고 있는 게 없습니다. 그래서 이 시리즈의 팬 분들보다 몰입해서 즐기긴 힘들지 않을까 해서 아쉽기도 합니다. 참고로 PC는 바로 내일 발매됩니다만, PS4는 한국어까지 지원해서 차후에 발매한다고 합니다. PS4 유저 분이시라면 기다리기 힘드시겠지만 좀 더 기다리셔야 할 것 같습니다. 대신 한국어로 즐길 수 있으니 참 좋은 일이죠. P.S : 현재 PC판인 스팀에서 시간대가 바뀌어서 오늘 오후로 변경되었습니다. 팬텀 페인 출시에 맞춰 PS4도 팬텀 페인 에디션이 나왔는데요,
안그래도 플스 구하려고 알아보고 있던 차에, 색깔이나 디자인이 맘에 들어 구입하려고 기다리고 있는 중입니다.
가격도 한정판인데, 크게 프리미엄이 붙지 않았더라구요. (게임 에디션인데, 게임은 미포함이라니)

안그래도 플스 구하려고 알아보고 있던 차에, 색깔이나 디자인이 맘에 들어 구입하려고 기다리고 있는 중입니다.
가격도 한정판인데, 크게 프리미엄이 붙지 않았더라구요. (게임 에디션인데, 게임은 미포함이라니)
출시는 내일이지만, 저도 반응 좀 보고 한글 좀 기다렸다 사려고 합니다.
