모유 육아의 최대의 단점은「혼자만의 시간을 가질 수 없다」도, 「술을 마실 수 없다」도 아니고,「유두가 말도 안 되게 커진다」입니다. 나도 2년 정도 완전 모유 육아를 해 왔지만, 정신을 차리고 보니 엄청나게 커져 있었습니다. 잡아땡기면 껌처럼 늘어나는 유두. 최대 4cm를 기록. 평상시라도 2cm가까이 됩니다. 그리고 여러분 믿기 어려우실지 모르겠습니다만, 이쯤되면 유두도 늘어집니다. 네, 유방이 아니라 유두 말입니다. 「축 늘어진 가슴」같은 것에 대해서는 익히 아시리라고 생각합니다만 더 구체적으로「축 늘어진 유두」입니다. 그리고 참고로 더 말하자면, 유두가 접힙니다. 브래지어를 착용하면 가끔 위로 가끔은 아래로 유두가 접혀서 유방에 붙습니다. 「접힌다」라고 해야되나.「꺾인」상태입니다. 여기까지 오면, 유두를 더이상 섹시의 상징으로 볼 수 없게 되어, 인체의 신비 그리고 그 무한의 가능성을 나타내는 신적인 존재처럼 생각이 됩니다. 여자로서의 자신을 잃은 저는, 때때로 위로 접힌 유두를 바라보며 「와, 오늘은 양쪽 모두 윗쪽으로 접혔으니까 금전운이 좋겠구만!」 하는 식의 오리지날 유두 운세로 기분을 달래는 수 밖에 없습니다. 이 모두 모유 수유의 탓입니다. 있는대로 먹인 결과가 이것입니다. 그렇지만 뭐, 2년간, 매일 평균 1시간 이상 빨게했으니 합계 약 700시간이니까요. 날짜로 환산하면 1개월간 계속 물고 있었던 것이니까요. 이러면 인체의 형상도 바뀝니다. 여튼 이런 상황인만큼 아무래도 양해를 구해야겠다 싶어서 원래 주 고객에게 「이렇게 되어버려서, 정말 미안해」 하고 머리와 유두를 함께 숙이며 사과했더니 「엄마로서의 훈장이잖아. 훌륭해. 가슴을 펴고 살아」 하고 격려 받았습니다만, 그 후로부터 더이상의 관계가 없습니다. 어쩌면 좋을까요.
