바시티 버니언(Vashti Bunyan)은 1945년 뉴캐슬어폰타임(New Castle upon Tyme)에서 태어났습니다. 60년대 중반 믹 재거(Mick Jagger)와 키스 리차드(Keith Richard)가 작곡을 하고 지미 페이지가 세션으로 참여를 했던 싱글을 한 장 발매했었지만 주목받지 못하고 클럽 등에서 활동하다가 60년대 말 그녀가 작곡한 곡을 조 보이드(Joe Boyd)에게 발탁이 됩니다. 조 보이드는 포크 음악에 있어서 전설적인 프로듀서로 그의 이름이 프로듀서로 되어 있으면 저같은 경우에 그냥 구입을 할 정도로 영향력이 강력한 인물입니다. 그런 인물에게 발탁이 되어서 데뷰 음반인 Just Another Diamond Day라는 음반을 발매했지만 이 음반 역시 큰 반향을 얻지는 못했고, 그녀는 음악계를 떠났습니다. 1990년대 이후 그녀의 음반이 포크 팬들 사이에 집중적으로 거론이 되고, 중고 음반이 엄청난 가격에 거래가 되자, 결국 음반은 재 발매가 됩니다. 그리고 2004년에는 데뷰 음반 발매후 35년만에 두번째 음반을 발매했는데, 영국 포크 챠트에서 1위에 올랐습니다. 좀 심심한 느낌이 들기도 하는 포크 음악이지만, 그녀의 목소리는 참 듣기 좋습니다. 위의 클립은 그녀가 두번째 음반을 발매하고나서 좀 있다가 녹화된걸로 보입니다. 1963년에 작곡된 17 Pink Sugar Elephants는 나중에 1집을 녹음할때 제목을 Train Song이라고 바꾸고 가사 역시 바꿔서 불렀습니다. 그리고 이후 몇 몇 가수들에 의해서 커버가 되기도 했고, 삼성에서 만든 텔레비젼 광고에도 들어갔습니다. 아래는 이 곡이 들어간 광고...
