2019년 첫 날에 무슨 글을 쓰면 좋을까 잠깐 고민하다가 지난 번에 2018년을 마무리하는 글을 써봤으니 2019년을 맞이하는 글도 써볼까 합니다. 2019년의 기대작, 그 중에서도 상반기하고도 최대한 3월 이내에 나오는 작품 위주로 해서 다섯 작품을 선정해봤습니다. 순서는 먼저 나오는 순이고요. 제가 PC, PS4만 보유하고 있어서 엑스박스 원이나 스위치로 나오는 게임은 제외될테고, 휴대용 기기나 모바일도 관심이 없어서 고른 게 없네요. 이것 외에도 기대되는 작품이 더 있긴 한데, 발매일이 정확하게 밝혀진 게 없어서 발매일이 확정된 게임만 넣었습니다. 1. 바이오 하자드 2: RE (PC, PS4, XBO) 발매: 1월 25일 개발: 캡콤 장르: 호러 액션 트레일러로 소개하고 싶은데 게임 특징상 잔인한 장면이 없는 트레일러 찾는 게 불가능해서 그나마 가장 덜 잔인한 걸 찾았네요. 그동안 바이오 하자드 2가 리메이크된다는 루머와 이어서 정식 발표까지 꽤 오래 전에 나왔는데도 정보 공개가 하나도 없어서 발매를 하긴 하는건지 싶었던 2편의 리메이크가 2019년 1월에 찾아올 신작입니다. 아마 저도 따로 게임을 찾지 않는다면 2019년에 가장 처음 홍차넷에 평을 남길 게임은 이 작품이 될 것 같네요. 리메이크인만큼 고전작 특유의 시점을 버리고, VR에 집중된 7편의 1인칭도 버리고 4편 이후의 숄더 뷰로 회귀했습니다. 그러면서도 좀비보다 주인공이 더 호러였던 플레이 스타일도 좀 더 호러에 가깝게 방향을 잡은 것도 괜찮게 봅니다. 만일 이 작품이 성공한다면 앞으로의 바이오 하자드는 이런 분위기로 쭉 후속작이 나오지 않을까 싶기도 하고요. 2. 메트로 엑소더스 (PC, PS4, XBO) 발매: 2월 15일 개발: 4A 게임즈 장르: FPS 2033과 라스트 라이트를 모두 즐겁게 해서 3편도 기대하고 있는 엑소더스입니다. 핵 전쟁 이후의 러시아 지하철이 배경인 비디오 게임은 앞으로도 메트로 시리즈 밖에 없지 않을까 싶었는데 엑소더스는 제목처럼 기차로 러시아를 탈출하는 내용입니다. 그러다 보니 폐쇄적이고 어두운 지하에서 우중충한 하늘의 지상으로 바뀐 게 메트로 시리즈 내에선 오히려 신선하네요. 게임 내적으로는 이미 라스트 라이트에서 거의 다 틀을 잡고 완성했다고 생각해서 3편에서 어마어마한 변화가 있을 것 같진 않습니다. 그래도 원래 하던대로만 나와도 괜찮은 후속작일거라 믿어봅니다. 3. 앤썸 (PC, PS4, XBO) 발매: 2월 22일 개발: 바이오웨어 장르: RPG 바이오웨어가 매스 이펙트 안드로메다로 큰 상처를 입었죠. 그러나 안드로메다는 개발 보조를 맡았던 몬트리올 스튜디오의 작품이었으니 본가인 에드먼턴 스튜디오가 만드는 게임은 좀 더 기대할만합니다. 그리고 앤썸은 여태껏 바이오웨어가 보여준 적이 없는 스타일의 게임입니다. 재블린 슈트라는 강화복을 입고 싸우고 전반적인 게임의 방향이 멀티플레이와 디아블로로 대표되는 아이템 파밍에 최적화되었습니다. 사실 이게 양날의 검일 수도 있겠죠. 사람들이 생각하는 바이오웨어 스타일의 RPG는 그런 게 아니었으니까요. 전 기대는 하니까 이렇게 소개합니다만, 자칫 잘못하면 앤썸이 매스 이펙트 안드로메다처럼 팬들에게 버림 받는 게임이 될 수도 있다고 생각합니다.(물론 안드로메다는 완성도가 부족한 게 문제였지만요.) 최근에 비공개 테스트를 한번 한 걸로 아는데 기밀 유지 규정이 있었습니다. 4. 토탈 워: 쓰리 킹덤즈 (PC) 발매: 3월 7일 개발: 크리에이티브 어셈블리 장르: 전략 동아시아에서 가장 인기 있는 소재 중 하나인 삼국지를 서구권의 개발사 시점에서 개발하면 어떤 결과물이 나올까 참 궁금하게 만드는 작품입니다. 전작인 워해머의 성공과 워해머의 노하우를 기존의 역사 배경 토탈 워에 접목시킨다고 생각하면 로마2처럼 실망스러운 결과물은 아니라 기본은 하는 작품을 내지 않을까 하는 기대감도 있고요. 이번 작품의 소소한 특징은 역사상 최초로 한국어 더빙이 이루어진단 점을 들 수 있겠네요. 그런데 전 더빙의 완성도가 매우 높지 않으면 분위기를 살리기 위해서 중국어를 고를 것 같아요. 5. 세키로: 섀도우즈 다이 트와이스 (PC, PS4, XBO) 발매: 3월 22일 개발: 프롬 소프트웨어 장르: 액션 어드벤쳐 마지막은 소울 시리즈로 유명한 프롬의 세키로입니다. 첫 공개 때부터 소울 시리즈를 연상시키는 부분이 있어서 다들 소울라이크 정도로 생각했었는데 세키로는 전통적인 롤플레잉 요소가 거의 없는 순수한 액션 게임이라 합니다. 전 그래서 기대하는 편인데 제가 소울 시리즈를 별로 좋아하지 않았던 이유 중 하나가 액션 RPG를 상대적으로 덜 좋아해서이기도 했거든요. 또 프롬 소프트웨어하면 독특한 디자인 감각이 사람을 매혹시킬 때가 있는데 세키로는 그 흔한 일본 전국시대 배경을 쓰면서도 독특한 느낌을 주는 것 같아서 일단은 기대가 됩니다.
