별 내용은 없습니다. 일주일 뒤 개봉하는 영화에 대한 소개를 하고 싶어 짧은 글을 씁니다. 2014년에는 제게 헛구역질이 나게 만든 영화가 두 편 개봉했습니다. 저한테 있어 영화가 몸의 실제 감각을 움직이게 하는 경우는 가면 갈수록 드물어지는데요, 예를들어서, 꼬꼬마 시절에 본 <프레데터>같은 영화는 감상 후 일주일을 제 방 침대 옆까지 프레데터가 찾아와서 잠든 저를 가만히 지켜보고다가 가면을 벗는 악몽에 시달렸습니다만, 지금은 <프로메테우스>같은 수작을 봐도 그런 악몽을 꿀 일은 없죠. 좀 더 나이가 든 고등학교 시절, 캐나다의 작은 시골 멀티플렉스에서 본 <미션 임파서블 3>는 숨이 멎을것 같은 속도감과 엄청 스피디한 전개, 그리고 뒤통수를 때리는 반전으로 제 심장을 쿵쾅거리게 만들었지만, 그 이후로 그런 감정을 영화에서 느껴본 적은 별로 없습니다. 성인이 되어서도 마찬가지입니다. 공포영화나 고어한 장면은 익숙하지 않다면 성인이 되어서도 보기 힘들어 하는 분들이 많을텐데요, 저는 못해도 2~3일에 한 번 꼴로 영화를 보는편이라, 어느정도 순간이 넘어가니, 무서운 영화를 봐도 무서운 감정을 느끼기 어렵고, 고어한 영화를 봐도 불쾌한 감정을 쉬이 느끼기 어려워졌습니다. 그런 의미에서, 최근에 저에게 육체적, 감각적으로 뒤흔든 영화라는건, 그 작품이 제게 의미하는바가 매우 큽니다. 그리고 그런 경험은 쉽지 않을거라 생각했는데, 2014년에 그런 영화를 두 편이나 만날 수 있었어요. 첫번째 영화는 상반기에 <한공주>인데요, 이 영화의 날카로운 연출력과 독립 영화 특유의 화법, 그리고 주인공을 연기한 천우희의 출중한 연기로 <족구왕>과 함께 한국 독립 영화계를 칭찬해주고 싶을 정도로 굉장한 영화라 생각했습니다. 이 영화를 보면서 헛구역질이 난 건 아니지만, 이후 이 영화를 토대로 한 실제 사건을 찾아보면서 역겹지 않을 수가 없더라구요. 그와 관련된 자료를 찾아보고 다시 보니, 분노와 짜증과 안타까움 같은 감정이 서로 뭉쳐, 정말 답답하더라구요. 영화를 보고 이런 감정을 아직도 느낄 수 있다는 것에 대해 <한공주>에게 감사했죠. 이런 영화를 다시 만나기 쉽지 않을 것을 알았기에. 근데 왠걸 6개월 후에 저는 더 엄청난 영화를 만나게 됩니다. 이 영화는 영화관에서 처음 관람할때 저에게 엄청난 구토감을 안겨줍니다. 바로 조슈아 오펜하이머의 <액트 오브 킬링>입니다. 영상 미학적으로도 엄청난 비주얼을 보여줍니다만, 그 화려함 표피 밑에 깔려있는 비린내가, 저를 엄청나게 뒤흔들어놓을 정도로 강력한 힘을 내뿜고 있었습니다. 그리고 그 영화의 후속작 <침묵의 시선>이 곧 개봉합니다. 보통 이런 영화는 취향을 언급하며, 취향에 안맞을수도 있다던지, 꼭 추천하지만은 않는다는 사족을 덧붙이곤 하는데, <액트 오브 킬링>은 사실 취향을 뛰어넘는 부분이 있어, 저도 아직 안봤지만, 그 후속작인 <침묵의 시선>도 기대가 많이 됩니다.
