http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2017/06/domesticated-cats-dna-genetics-pets-science/?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Social&utm_content=link_fb20170619news-catsdna&utm_campaign=Content&sf90202674=1 요즘 실험 한번하면 콤퓨타가 데이터 분석 해주는데 한 15~20분 정도 걸리는데 그 동안 참 생산성 높게 놀던 중 이런걸 봤습니다. 네이처 이콜로지&에볼루션에 새로 나온 논문에서 주장하기를 약 9천년 정도되는 고양이의 유전자 분석을 한결과... 고대의 고양이와 현대의 고양이는 별로 다를게 없다고합니다. 다른게 아예 없는건 아니고 "태비"라고 명명되는 집고양이 특유의 줄무니/점밖이 무늬를 형성하는 유전자 같은건 중세나 되서야 집고양이들에게만 나타난다고 하네요. 근데 그 보다 더 재밌는건 저런 데이터를 통해서 추론해낸 고양이와 인간들의 역사적 상관관계입니다. [인간은 언제나 집사]로 선택받아왔을뿐이라는 거죠. 아마도 농경사회가 자리잡기 시작하면서 인류는 곡물을 저장하기 시작했고, 그런 곡물들을 노리고 각종 설치류가 인간의 곁으로 찾아들고, 그 설치류를 쫓아서 고양이들이 인간들 곁에 자발적으로 자리잡고 [공생]하기 시작했다는거죠. 이건 견공들과는 현격히 다른 과정이라고합니다. 개들은 애초에 의도적으로 사람들에게 필요한 특정한 임무를 수행하기 위해서 의도적으로 길들여지고 임무에 유리한 특성들을 부각시키기 위해 교배/개량 된 케이스입니다. 그렇기 때문에 현대 개들의 유전자는 야생개/늑대들의 그것과도 판이하게 다르고, 개들 내에서도 유전자풀에 큰 다양성을 지니고있다고합니다. 인간이 본인의 이득을 위해서 철저하게 사육하고 유전자조작을 해낸 과학 프로젝트의 산물인거죠. 이에 반해서 고양이는 처음부터 "어이 닝겐, 여기 밥있다며?"하고 들어오셧다는거죠... 뭐 저 자체로도 재밌는 이야기이기도 하지만 최근에 인터넷에서 보았던 동물/자연에 관한 이야기들 몇가지도 동시에 생각나기도하는 연구입니다. 하나는 계곡에 반려견을 댓고 들어가도 되냐라는 이야기를 보았는데, 제 입장을 떠나서 그 토론 과정에 "자연스러움"에 대한 이야기가 오고가는게 재밌더라구요. 한 걸음 더 나아가보면 GMO 음식에 대한 이야기도 있고요. 이런 것들을 보면, 유전자의 중요성, 유전자에 대한 인간의 개입, 이러한 과정에 대한 "자연스러움", 그리고 인간과 다른 동물들과의 공존관계에 대해서 생각해볼 거리가 많은것 같습니다. 뭐 어찌되었든 오늘도 9천년전 계약의 의무를 아직도 성실히 행하고 계시는 전국의 모든 집사님들에게 경의를 표하며 글을 마무리하겠습니다. 전 개가 더 좋거든요 훗. 식이부터가 개와 고양이는 크게 차이나죠. 개는 늑대와 동일하게 Canis lupus임에도 불구하고 늑대와는 달리 탄수화물 비율이 높은 식이가 가능하니까요. 이로부터 인간의 식이 통제에 의해 탄수화물 소화 능력을 요구하는 선택압을 거쳤다고 자연스럽게 추측할 수 있죠. 반면 고양이는 집고양이든 들고양이든 간에 탄수화물 중심 식이를 반복할 경우 금방 건강을 해치게 되죠. 그건 탄수화물 섭식과 관련된 선택압이 미미했다는 것이고, 그만큼 식이에 있어 인간의 통제가 낮았다는 것이죠. 그것은 결국 가축화 수준이 높지 않았다는 것을 암시하고.

식이부터가 개와 고양이는 크게 차이나죠. 개는 늑대와 동일하게 Canis lupus임에도 불구하고 늑대와는 달리 탄수화물 비율이 높은 식이가 가능하니까요. 이로부터 인간의 식이 통제에 의해 탄수화물 소화 능력을 요구하는 선택압을 거쳤다고 자연스럽게 추측할 수 있죠. 반면 고양이는 집고양이든 들고양이든 간에 탄수화물 중심 식이를 반복할 경우 금방 건강을 해치게 되죠. 그건 탄수화물 섭식과 관련된 선택압이 미미했다는 것이고, 그만큼 식이에 있어 인간의 통제가 낮았다는 것이죠. 그것은 결국 가축화 수준이 높지 않았다는 것을 암시하고.

계곡물 키배는 참 얼탱이 없지 않았나 싶네요. 비슷하게 '자연스러움'을 두고 벌어지는 혼선이라면 늑대와 들개의 차이가 있겠죠. 환경부 주도로 '한국 늑대' 복원은 꾸준히 진행되고 있지만 정작 유기견들이 야생화하여 형성된 들개들은 소탕되고 있지요. 들개들이 무리지어 고라니 사랑하는 건 생태 질서 교란이고, 울프팩이 멧돼지 사냥하는 건 한반도 생태계 복원이고. 우습다 싶습니다.
