 1. 홍상수의 27번째 장편 영화입니다. 72회 베를린국제영화제에서 은곰상:심사위원 대상을 수상했습니다. 김민희와 함께 수상소감을 말하기도 하여 화제가 되었습니다. 2. 데뷔작 이후 홍상수의 영화는 계속해서 바뀝니다. 제 생각엔 지금 홍상수의 세계는 4부쯤 되는것 같습니다. 1부가 고학력자들의 비루함과 욕망, 부도덕함 이었다면 2부는 아리송한 반복과 차이, 꿈인지 현실인지 모를 영화였습니다. 3부에선 죽음의 이미지와 오브제들의 나열로 의도적 공백을 배치하였고, 지금의 4부는 그동안의 모든 부산물이 제거되고 투명하게 여과된 느낌입니다. 극중 감독의 아내도 '당신 작품이 맑아졌다' 라고 이야기 합니다. <도망친 여자> 를 제외하고 최근 작품은 12, 15세 관람가로 바뀌기도 하였구요. 3. 영화의 내용은 더 이상 글쓰기가 어려운 소설가가 연기활동을 멈춘 배우와 영화를 만드는 이야기 입니다. 즉흥적으로 이루어지는 창작의 계획에서 주변 인물들이 한두마디씩 거듭니다. 어떤 인물은 감독이 만들 영화의 내용을 듣고는 '그럼 다큐멘터리를 만드는것이냐?' 라고 묻기도 하고. 기주봉 배우는 '출연할 두 인물을 떠올리니 이야기가 생각난다' 라며 본인이 생각하는 영화 이야기를 하려고 하기도 합니다. 하지만 소설가는 타인들의 말을 반박하고, 막아 픽션 영화를 만들겠다는 의지를 보이며 완성합니다. 4. 이 영화의 첫 시작부터 화면과는 상이한 소리가 들립니다. 그리고 수화를 배워 듣는 것이 아닌 보는 것으로 말을 하기도 합니다. 드디어 이혜영 배우와 김민희 배우가 마주보고 앉아 대화를 나누는 장면에선 한 꼬마가 가게 밖에서 둘을 바라보는 것에 시선을 강탈 합니다. 그리고 망원경으로 공원을 보는 장면에선 의도적으로 부부의 대화를 넣기도 하였습니다. 이처럼 영화는 우리가 직접 보는 것과 들리는 것의 균열을 통해 진실을 파악하는데 방해가 되는 요소들을 배치합니다. 현실의 상황과 이 영화를 보면서 떨어질수 없는 요소들을 관람자가 어떻게 분리하느냐에 따라 진실이 바뀔 것입니다. 5. 최근에 보았던 홍상수가 어떻게 영화를 작업하는지 인터뷰한 영상입니다. 시간이 좀 되었지만 지금의 작품들도 저 방법에서 벗어나지 않았다고 생각합니다. 어떠한 상황속에서 본인이 느낀 감정이나 관계, 자기 자신을 투영할 수 있는 형식을 찾아 완성해 나갑니다. 하루하루 쪽대본으로 완성되는 홍상수 감독 영화 제작 이야기는 유명합니다. 감독은 즉흥과 순간의 현실을 영화라는 영원에 포착합니다. 6. 부활의 노래를 좋아하는 저는 일전에 김태원의 이야기를 듣고 좀 의아해 하였습니다. 타인의 음악에 영향을 받을까봐 듣지 않는것이 과연 좋을까 생각이 들었습니다. 하지만 부활의 곡들은 시대와 상관없이 아름답기에 맞는 방법으로 보입니다. 7. 홍상수의 <그후> 라는 작품에 김새벽 배우가 출연하였습니다. 김새벽 배우는 <한여름의 판타지아> 에 출연하였으며 이 작품 평단에 큰 호평을 받았습니다. 홍상수가 사용하는 '반복과 차이' 라는 형식을 판타지와 적절하게 결합시킨 작품으로 유명하였죠. 이후 홍상수 영화에 김새벽 배우가 출연하였으니 당연히 감독이 <한여름의..> 작품을 보고 캐스팅 제의를 하지 않았을까 싶었습니다. 하지만 한 인터뷰에 의하면 홍감독은 <한여름의...> 작품을 보지 않고 김새벽 배우를 캐스팅 하였습니다. 이때 저는 좀 의아하게 생각하며 '홍상수는 영화를 안보나..?' 라는 생각을 하기도 하였죠. 본인의 스타일을 차용하여 크게 호평받은 영화이기에 당연히 봤을 거라 짐작했던거죠. 8. 최근 유희열의 표절논란이 번지며 그간 작곡했던 방식에 대해 추측하는 글들이 많았습니다. 우리가 잘 모를법한 좋은 음악, 또는 대중적으로 익히 유명한 멜로디를 가져와 템포, 음정을 손보고 완성시킨 것이 아니냐는 의문이었죠. 위 영상도 그러한 맥락에서 어떻게 음악을 만드는지 알 수 있는 내용입니다. 눈가리고 귀닫고 자기만의 것을 만들어내는 창작자와는 결이 다르죠. 오히려 적극적으로 눈을 열고 귀를 열어 대중이 좋아할 핵심을 녹여내고 변주하여 세상에 내어 놓습니다. 하지만 그 출처가 타인의 작품이라는 사실을 알고 우리는 크게 분노하였죠. 9. 극중 배우활동을 중단한 김민희 배우는 이런 이야기를 듣습니다. "왜 아깝게 영화를 안하느냐. 재능도 있고 연기도 잘하는데 아깝지 않느냐" 유희열은 대중이 좋아할 만한 멜로디를 뽑아내어 변주하여 아낌없이 선보입니다. 그리고 많은 사람들이 그의 노래를 듣고 부르며 작품을 즐겼던 시간은 부정할 수 없습니다. 유희열의 스케치북 마지막 인사는 마치 그동안 공범처럼 다같이 들어놓고 왜 이제와서? 라는 듯한 태도였죠. 한국 영화는 '돼지가 우물에 빠진날' 이전과 이후로 나뉜다는 평가를 듣던 홍감독. 하지만 '지맞그틀' 이후 불륜과 함께 모든 작품에 투영되는 홍감독에 대한 소문들. 시간이 지난 후 유희열이 음악을 만들었을 때 대중들은 어떤 음악을 배꼈나 혈안이 되어 찾겠죠. 홍감독의 작품은 순수한 창작물로써가 아닌 '불륜남의 스트레스와 상황' 이 투영되어 듣고 보는 모든 것을 의심하게 되었구요. 10. <소설가의 영화> 마지막은 소설가가 만든 영화가 끝나고 엔딩 크레딧이 올라갑니다. 이후 관람자이자, 배우인 김민희는 소설가이자 이 영화의 감독을 찾아 옥상으로 올라가며 영화는 끝납니다. 저 또한 창작된 영화를 보는 관람자이자, 극중 인물에 몰입하는 배우로써. 창작된 음악을 듣는 관객이자, 노래방에서 부르는 가수로써. 끊임없이 창작자를 쫓아 다닐것입니다.
