저같은경우에는 예전에는 미술관이나 박물관에서 작가의 이름과 작품 이 그림은 무슨 재료로 그려졌는가, 구도, 등등의 초보자적인 태도로 관람했었는데요. 예전에 전시회를 가보면,
17, 18,19세기 작품들 전시회에 거의 대부분은 초상화 그림이 많이 있는 걸 보고 왜 초상화 그림이 대다수인가 의문스러웠는데 이번 책에서 대답을 찾은 것 같아요.
책을 읽다보면, 그런 초상화 그림이 많았던 이유를 알 수가 있게 되었어요.
그림의 소유자들 ( 화가가 아닌) 은 철저하게 그림을 통해서 타인이 그림, 미술작품의 소유주를 알아 봐주기를 바라는 것이지요. 얼마나 자신의 재산이 많은지, 아름다운 여성과 함께 사는지 말입니다. 그렇기 때문에 자신의 초상화나 소유물에 대한 그림이 대부분이었던 셈이었는데요.
줌토론에서도 나왔는 이야기인데, 현시대의 인스타그램이 하는 역할 (훔쳐보기나 과시 소비홍보)을 예전에는 미술작품이 했기 때문에 과거의 미술작품에서 초상화나 부자들의 재산(집, 성, 농장)과 관련된 작품이 대다수이지 일반시민들의 그림의 수요는 별로 없었던 이유가 설명이 되었어요.
책 내용에는 안나왔지만,
18세기 프랑스혁명 이후로 밀레의 이삭줍기 그림이 나오면서 사실주의 묘사가 당시의 시대적인 혁명, 체제 전환 등으로 인해서 평범한 사람들의 모습도 그림작품에 출현하기 시작하게 되는 맥락이 이해가 됩니다.
마지막으로 이 책에서 가장 인상적인 이야기는 위의 이야기와 이어지는데 현대 광고의 역할과 작품들을 연계해서 작가가 가진 광고에 대한 관점이었는데요.

광고- 광고란 보여주는 것, 대중에게 광고의 역할은 이미지를 통해서 소유할 수 있는 미래에 자신이 그 상품을 소유함으로 자신이 타인에게 선망의 대상이 되는 상상을 불러 일으키는 역할을 한다는 점
또한 인상적인것은 광고가 사회적인 관계, 행복..다른 사람들에 의해 외부적으로 판단되는 그 동시대의 행복 글래머를 추구한다. 선망의 대상이 되고 경험을 나눠가지지 않고 오직 나만이 가지게 되는 이미지를 유도한다는 점이었습니다.

개인적으로 광고에 대하여 혹은 소비에 대한 시선을 다시 생각해보았던 기회가 되었어요.
소비자로서 광고를 물건을 사는 데 필요한 정보를 전달해주는 역할만 중요시하게 제가 여태껏 바라보았다면, 광고 그 자체 (아트 작품) 그 본연의 성질에 대해서 이야기해주는 바가 상당히 파격적으로 다가왔어요.
앞으로 광고에 대해서 거꾸로 보는? 제2의 시선으로 바라 볼 수 있게 되었다는것, 제가 광고의 맥락에 대해서 많이 깊게 생각안하고 흘려보내면서 살았구나 라는 생각도 들었구요.
선망의 대상이 되는 역할이란 참, 무서운 말인것 같아요. 광고 물건을 소비하면서 이미지를 사는것이고, 물건을 소유하면서 얻는 잇점은 타인에게서 선망의 대상이 되다니..
너무 흑백논리가 아닌가 싶기도 하는데요. 그럴 수도 있겠으니 조심해야겠군 싶기도 하구요.
개인적으로는 타인들에게 선망의 대상이 되는 것이 어떤 의미란 말인가? 라는 좀 더 여운이 많이 남는 챕터였습니다.
바라보면 좀 더 비평적으로 바라볼 수 있는지에, 도움을 주는 책이라고 생각합니다.

미술작품을 관람시에 작품이 그려진 시대적 배경을 이해하는 것이 더 중요하구나를 책을 통해서 좀 더 생각해보게 되었어요.
저같은경우에는 예전에는 미술관이나 박물관에서 작가의 이름과 작품 이 그림은 무슨 재료로 그려졌는가, 구도, 등등의 초보자적인 태도로 관람했었는데요. 예전에 전시회를 가보면,
17, 18,19세기 작품들 전시회에 거의 대부분은 초상화 그림이 많이 있는 걸 보고 왜 초상화 그림이 대다수인가 의문스러웠는데 이번 책에서 대답을 찾은 것 같아요.
책을 읽다보면, 그런 초상화 그림이 많았던 이유를 알 수가 있게 되었어요.
그림의 소유자들 ( 화가가 아닌) 은 철저하게 그림을 통해서 타인이 그림, 미술작품의 소유주를 알아 봐주기를 바라는 것이지요. 얼마나 자신의 재산이 많은지, 아름다운 여성과 함께 사는지 말입니다. 그렇기 때문에 자신의 초상화나 소유물에 대한 그림이 대부분이었던 셈이었는데요.
