(주제가 주제라 수위가 좀 있습니다. 뒤에 누가 있거나, 바깥에서 볼 때 유의해주세요.) 탐라 (https://new.redtea.kr/pb/view.php?id=timeline2&no=39754) 에서 짤막하게 적었던 걸 풀어보려 합니다. 한국이 성에 대해 덜 개방적인 나라는 맞습니다. 포르노를 불법화하고, 포르노사이트는 워닝을 때리는 등 선진국 중에서도 반포르노 규제가 제일 쎈 축이고, 혼전/자유분방한 성관계(casual sex) 등에 대한 국민여론도 보수적인 편입니다. (자세한 내용은 링크 2개를 참고해보세요) 비슷한 문화를 가진 동북아 선진국인 일본, 대만과 비교해도 살짝 더 보수적이니, 한국 성문화는 선진국 중 제일 보수적이라고 해도 무방합니다. 그래서 그런지 이런 풍토에 불평불만이 넷상에 자자합니다. 무슨 선진국이 포르노도 못보게하냐, 유교 x선비 국가라는 식의 이야기가 많이 나오지요. 저도 개방된 성문화를 원하기 때문에 불평불만의 큰 틀에는 동의할 수밖에 없습니다. 하지만 그런 큰 틀과는 별개로, 넷상의 성토를 보자하면 머리속에서 설명이 안 되는 불편함이 들더라고요. 큰 틀은 맞는데 그게 최선인지 회의적이고, 자꾸 위화감이 듭니다. 그래서 생각을 좀 해보다가 결론을 내렸습니다. 인터넷의 성개방 담론의 방식을 보면 사회적으로 세를 넓힐 수가 없고, 그 자체도 바람직한지도 의문인 반쪽짜리 성개방이라고. 제가 이렇게 생각하게 된 이유들을 적어보겠습니다. 1. 성문화 개방을 누가 원하는가? 서구사회는 68혁명을 통해서 어마어마하게 바뀌었습니다. 금지하는 것을 금지한다는 유명한 구호도 있었고, 이들은 기성 문화 전반에 대해 부조리하고, 권위주의적일 뿐이라며 저항했습니다. 당시 보급되기 시작한 피임약과 더불어 성문화는 폭발적으로 개방되기 시작했습니다. 한국은 68혁명같은 획기적인 사건은 없어서 속도는 더디지만, 경제발전과 민주화, 신세대의 등장 등으로 성에 대한 금기는 풀려가는 중입니다. X세대의 등장, 마광수와 장정일의 재판 등 여러차례의 사회/예술문화 담론과 판결을 거쳐 점차 변화하고 있지요. 최근에는 리얼돌도 법원에서 허용되었습니다. (관세청장이 자의적으로 통관을 안 하고 버티고는 있는데... 얼마나 버틸까 싶습니다) 여기서 중요한 게 뭐냐면요, 이러한 성문화 개방을 주도한 건 신진 중산층과 법조계/학계/예술계/언론계 등에 종사하는 전문 지식인들이었다는 겁니다. 사회적으로 세련되고, 똑똑하며 잘사는 집단이라는 좋은 이미지를 가지고 있고, 사회 전반에 이들이 옳다면 옳다는 권위도 좀 있었지요. 그래서인지 성개방에 대한 학술 수준의 담론도 많이 이루어졌고, 실제로 판결문을 보면 (판결 방향이 어쨌든) 그런 고민의 흔적이 많이 드러납니다. 그런데 요즘 성개방 담론은 그 반대입니다. 담론을 지식인 계열이 아닌 (특히 서브컬쳐계의) 남초 사이트들이 지배하고 있어요. 실제로 요즘 지식인들은 요즘 충분히 성적으로 개방됐다는 판단에서인지 모르지만, 옛날만큼 적극적인 성문화 개방을 요구하지 않고 있습니다. 여전히 성적으로 개방되어가는 중이지만, 옛날만큼 속도가 빠르지 않고 세부적으로 가면 오히려 쇠퇴하는 면(HTTPS 검열이라던가)도 있다는 인상이에요. 그런 상황에서, 인터넷 문화가 발달한 현재 성문화 개방 담론은 디시, 펨코와 같은 하류문화 남초 사이트들이 지배하게 되었습니다. 그런데 이들은 고상한 지식인 계열이 아닙니다. 툭하면 섹스!를 외쳐대는 성에 굶주린 남자들 이미지가 강합니다. 서브컬쳐라는 이름에 걸맞게 사회적으로 인정받는 부류는 아닙니다. 물론 서브컬쳐에 관심 많고, 맨날 섹드립치면서 노는 게 잘못이라는 이야기가 아닙니다. 개인주의자로서 취향은 타인에 피해를 끼치지 않는 한 존중받아야 할 영역이 맞기 때문입니다. 그리고 섹드립이야 옛날 화장실 개그/낙서에서 보듯 옛날부터 있었고, 무조건적인 욕망 억제는 해롭지요. 하지만 사회적으로 인정받으려면 이들은 우선 자기들이 주류가 아니라는 걸 인정하고, 외연을 넓힐 생각을 해야 합니다. 그러려면 최소한 겉으로는 품위있고 지적으로 보이고, 자기들 주장의 철학적 근거를 찾아보려 노력해야 합니다. 옛날에 성개방을 주도한 지식인과 중산층이 그러했듯이. 자기들끼리는 섹스섹스거릴 수 있지만, 적어도 공적 담론에 참여하려면 최소한의 수준은 있어야죠. 광화문 광장 시위구호나 국회 토론에서 섹스섹스를 외칠 수는 없는 노릇 아닙니까. 물론 튀기 위해 행위예술 같은 걸 벌일 수는 있습니다만, 얘들이 그럴 예술적 역량이 있다고 생각하진 않습니다. 그런데 얘들이 딱히 그럴 시도를 하는지 모르겠습니다. 뭐 생업이 바쁘다고 할지 모르겠는데, 한국 사회에서 안 바쁜 사람이 어디 있습니까? 너무 얘들의 드립을 진지하게 받아들이는거 아닌가 싶을텐데, 매일 성문화 폐쇄적인 한국 하면서 씹고뜯고즐기는 거 보면 나름 진지해 보입니다. 아무것도 안하면서 저렇게 찌질대니까 처량하지요. 2. 진정한 개방적인 성문화에 대한 고찰 그렇다면 얘네들이 외치는 성문화 개방은 과연 바람직한 것일까요? 이를 위해 개방적인 성문화가 어떤 것일지를 다시 생각해 봅시다. 성문화 개방은 단순히 성관계를 많이 할 수 있다는 걸 넘어섭니다. 남자와 여자 각자의 합의 하에, 사회적 터부 없이 성을 안전하게 즐길 수 있는 것이 진정한 성문화 개방이겠지요. 섹스는 둘의 합의로 이루어지기 때문에, 성문화가 제대로 개방되려면 섹스에 참여하는 남자와 여자, 그리고 성소수자들의 성에 대한 올바른 이해가 필요합니다. 그리고 남자와 여자에 대한 성적 편견은 사라져야 합니다. 이를 위해 페미니즘이나 젠더 논의를 가져와야 하는 경우도 많지요. 이를 위해 다음과 같은 식의 논의가 많이 이뤄져야 합니다. 1. 남녀의 성욕이 작동하는 방식은 조금씩 다릅니다. 남자는 성욕이 종종 연애감정과 독립적인 수준으로 일시적, 말초적으로 생기는 경우가 많으며, 여자라고 해서 성욕이 없지는 않지만 보다 연애감정과 분위기를 타는 경우가 많죠. 생물학적 기제인지 사회문화적으로 만들어진 것인지는 논란이 다분합니다만 아무튼 그래요. (참고로 남자, 여자 내부에도 개인차가 크므로 무리한 일반화는 금물입니다.) 2. 남녀가 원하는 섹스 방식도 약간씩 다르지요. 수위 조절을 위해 자세히는 이야기하지 않고, 알아서 생각해보ㅅ... 3. 성적으로 개방적인 여성에 대한 편견과 질척댐은 성문화 개방을 방해합니다. 제가 있는 대학 커뮤니티인 에브리타임에서도, 여성들이 성에 대한 고민을 밝히기 힘든 게시판 분위기에 불만을 표출합니다. . 성경험을 이야기하거나, 성욕이 넘친다며 고민을 토로하는 순간 얘네들이라면 내 욕망을 받아주겠지? 하면서 쪽지/메세지 세례를 보내는 남자들이 꽤 있거든요. 그리고 현실에서 이런 여자들을 헤프게 보는 경우도 꽤 있습니다. 해외유학간 여자들을 문란했을 것이라며 기피하려는 일각의 남성들을 보면 알 수 있지요. 이런 식의 인식이 만연하다면 성의 개방은 요원한 일입니다. 다시 이야기하지만 섹스는 여성도 동의해야 가능한 일인데, 여자들이 성을 이야기하면 바로 짐승처럼 달려들고 걸레취급하는 분위기에서 결코 쉽지 않은 분위기이죠. 4. 일방적인 남성의 성적 판타지 달성은 어려워질 수 있습니다. 보통 성적으로 개방될 경우 남자들이 먼저 가고 여자들이 뒤따르는 경우가 많은데, 지금 한국은 남자들에게는 이미 개방된 레벨이기 때문에, 성문화를 더 개방하려면 여자도 개방되고, 그러면서 여성의 성향도 더 존중해야 합니다. 적어도 성문화를 개방하고 싶다면 이런 식의 논의가 이뤄져야 가능합니다. 그런데 지금 성문화 개방을 원하는 사람들이 이러고 있나요? 오히려 서브컬처계 특유의 성적 대상화 현상 때문인지, 현실에 기반한 제대로 된 논의는 커녕 성문화가 판타지로 날라가는 경우가 꽤 있습니다. 한쪽 성별이 다른 한쪽 성별에게 일방적으로 성애화된 이미지를 투사하는 거죠. 그래서일까요. 성문화 개방을 원한다는 얘들 중에서, 성적 개방을 원하는 건지 아니면 내 판타지에 맞게 나에게만 잘 대줄 이성을 원하는 건지 헷갈리는 부류가 꽤 있습니다. 위에서 말한 철학의 문제와 덧붙여지니 문제가 커졌어요. 사실 제 눈높이가 빡세긴 합니다. 성적으로 개방됐다는 서구권에서도 이게 안되고 있다는 지적이 종종 나오거든요. 하지만 안그래도 성문화가 보수적인 나라에서 성문화를 개방하려면 이 정도의 시도는 해봐야한다고 생각합니다. 3. 포르노 시대의 성문화의 문제 포르노가 유행하는 시대를 보고 말세라고 외치는 보수세력에 저는 반대합니다. 오남용하면 분명 문제될 여지가 많지만, 적절히 사용하면 포르노 없던 시절보다 더 윤택한 삶을 누릴 수 있다고 믿습니다. 그래서 저는 포르노 사이트를 워닝때리는 정부를 보수적인 망상에 사로잡혔다고 생각합니다. 하지만 포르노를 오남용해서 실제 관계 시엔 발기부전으로 고생하거나, 포르노를 현실에 옮기겠다고 상대에 대한 배려없고 고통스러운 성행위를 강제하는 경우가 많아진 건 분명 문제입니다. 물론 궁극적인 책임은 포르노를 오남용한 사람에게 있지만, 이렇게 사회문제가 되는 이상 자기 책임이라고만 넘길 수는 없는 일입니다. 자살과 실업이 개인 문제라고만 할 수 없는 것과 비슷하지요. 각종 불법도촬물, N번방, 웰컴 투 비디오와 같은 디지털 성범죄 문제도 무시할 수 없습니다. 참고로 이러한 문제는 성문화의 개방으로 일어난 부작용입니다. 물론 저는 이 문제를 해결하기 위해 성문화를 다시 보수화시키자는 건 바람직하지도 않고 비현실적이라고 생각합니다. 하지만 부작용임은 어느정도 분명하기에, 성문화 개방을 원하고 주장해왔던 사람들은 이 문제를 진지하게 돌이켜보고, 사회적으로 바람직한 성문화를 만들 책임이 있습니다. 하지만 제가 보기에 요즘 성개방 담론은 이 문제에 큰 관심이 없어 보입니다. 수꼴들 또 난리친다 ㅉㅉㅉ 이렇게 비아냥으로만 일관하고 있고, N번방처럼 도저히 실드를 칠 수 없는 경우는 입을 꾹 다물고 있지요. 만약에 성문화 개방적인 부류가 이런 실제 사회문제를 개인 문제로 치부하고, 제대로 된 대안 없이 규제는 무조건 반대한다고만 외친다면, 어느 순간부터 사람들은 성문화 개방을 회의적으로 보게 될 것입니다. 개방된 성문화라는 게 이런 무법천지인가? 성문화 개방을 원하는 인간들은 다 이리 무책임한가?를 외치면서요. 반동의 물결이 불 수도 있는 일입니다. 이런 일을 막기 위해서라도 포르노 시대에 성문화가 어떤 방향이 바람직할지 생각해볼 필요가 있습니다. 물론 매우 어려운 일입니다. 2와 마찬가지로 성적으로 개방됐다는 서구권에서도 이게 안되고 있다는 지적이 종종 나오거든요. 하지만 안그래도 성문화가 보수적인 나라에서 성문화를 개방하려면 이 정도의 시도는 해봐야한다고 생각합니다. (2) 4. 결론 현재 유행하는 성개방 담론은 우선 사회 보편적으로 받아들여지기 어렵고, 성개방을 위해 필요한 전제조건과 현대 (비교적) 개방된 성문화로 인한 부작용에는 무관심하다는 문제를 가지고 있습니다. 틀린 이야기는 아닌데 뭔가 불편하다는 감정도 이런 문제들 때문이겠지요. 물론 제가 너무 심각하게 생각했을 수도 있습니다. 속도는 좀 느릴지라도 성문화는 계속 개방되어가고, 남녀 성역할에 대한 전통적 인식도 점차 약화되고 있지요. 어쩌면 이런 인터넷 성개방 담론도 여러 성문화 담론의 일부에 불과할지도 모르지요. 하지만 어찌됐든간에, 성개방 사회가 빨리 오길 원한다면 위에 언급한 문제들을 진지하게 생각해봐야 가능하다고 생각합니다. 남녀가 성을 자유롭게 즐길 수 있는 사회가 되길 희망하며 이 글을 마칩니다.
