폴리스 시절 공연을 마치고 기타리스트였던 앤디 서머스(Andy Summers)는 자기가 읽었던 앤 라이스(Ann Rice)가 쓴 '뱀파이어와의 인터뷰(Interview with a Vampire)'를 건내줬다고 합니다. 이 소설을 스팅은 무척이나 재미있게 읽었다고 합니다. 그러다가 나중에 그들은 뉴 올리안즈를 방문할 일이 생겼고, 뉴 올리안즈의 상업지역인 프렌치 코트에서 머무르게 되었습니다. 마침 하늘은 보름달이었고, 스팅은 그곳에서 받은 느낌을 앤 라이스의 소설과 붙여서 곡을 만들었습니다.
