＃스압 주의 ＃데이터 주의 ＃본인 외의 사진은 그림을 그려 얼굴을 가렸으며, 제 사진은 몇시간 뒤에 펑됩니다 :-) 그러면 난 정말 하고 싶은 걸 다 한다. 정말? 진짜? 무르는 거 없기다? 뭐 이런 쓸데없는 질문을 할 사이가 아니니까. 우린 급하게 티켓을 끊었고, 운 좋게 호텔을 꽤 싸게 얻었으며, 당연하다는듯이 전날 밤 잠을 한 숨도 자지 못했다. 그리고 늘 그렇듯 두 길치는 아주 당연하다는 듯이 공항에서 발권을 하기 위해 두 바퀴 정도를 돌았고, 운동을 했으니 밥을 먹어야 했다. 간단하게 뭐 좀 먹을까?  ＃공항 출국장 근처 스쿨푸드 처음엔 진짜 간단하게 떡볶이를 먹으려고 했다. 하지만 돈가스 떡볶이라는 훌륭한 메뉴가 보이는 게 아닌가. 김밥도 고르지 못할거라면 다 시키는 게 아주 옳은 방법이다. 아무렴. 포크를 집으면서 전날 밤까지 새 놓고 이걸 먹을 수 있을까 하며 시작해 놓고는, 생각보다 잘 들어가네 하며 그릇을 싹 비웠다. 예전에도 이랬던 적이 몇 번 있던 것 같은데. 결국 늦도록 떡볶이를 먹다가 면세점 쇼핑은 하는둥 마는둥 하고는 바로 비행기를 탔다. 여담이지만 동생과 나는 뭐랄까. 태풍을 몰고 다니는 타입이었다. 동생과 첫번째 여행을 갔을 때는 24년만의 폭설이 왔고, 그다음에는 바람이 무시무시하게 불었다. 또 다른 여행에서는 앞이 안 보일 정도로 비가 내리기도 했다. 그랬으니 비행기가 안 흔들릴 리가 없다. 대한항공을 탔고 심지어 그게 보잉이었는데도 비행기는 흡사 태풍을 만난 배처럼 흔들렸다. 그런데 생각해 보니까 난 매미 때도 배를 탔던 것 같다. 배 안에 있는 영화관에서 <괴물>을 보고 있었는데 배가 오른쪽으로 죽 기울어지더니 의자가 우수수 밀려났다. 그 와중에 배두나가 화살을 기가 막히게 쏘는 장면을 보며 아 역시 원거리는 dex를 찍어야지 하며 이리저리 떠밀려 다녔는데,  ＃비행기에서 내려다 본 오키나와 근처의 섬 오늘은 그런 거 없이 아주 쾌청했다. 한시간 쯤 지나니 산호섬들이 보이기 시작했다. 누가 오키나와나 제주도나 그게 그거라고 그랬어. 스노클링은 꼭 하고 돌아가야겠다. 일단 맥주부터 한 잔 마시고.  ＃오키나와 나하 시내 사실 일본하면 떠오르는 색감이 있다. 흔히 일본풍 필터를 씌우면 사진 전체에 엷은 회색빛을 깔아 주는데, 그러면 적당히 물이 빠진 요즘 인스타식의 사진이 나오고는 한다. 난 그게 일본을 자주 가는 사람들의 취향 때문이 아닐까 짐작했는데. 공항에 내려 보니 한국과는 아예 색조가 다르다. 심지어 공사 현장에서 쓰는 주황색도 한국식의 쨍한 주황색이 아니었다. 주황색과 벽돌색 사이에 있는 차분한 색깔. 그게 신기해서 한참 머물러 있으면 좋으련만, 덥다. 무지하게 덥다. 32도라고 하더라도 여긴 습도가 한국하고는 비교가 안 된다. 거기다 우리 손에는 엄청나게 커다란 캐리어가 두 개나 딸려 있었다. 더구나, 우린 길치다. 시원한 공항에서 헤매는 것과 찜통 속에서 헤매는 건 비교할 것도 못 된다. 유이레일을 타려고 화살표를 열심히 따라갔더니 오잉. '돌고래' 표지판이 나온다. 뭔 놈의 돌고래? 돌고래 표지판이 있는 쪽으로 가 봤더니 주차장 돌고래관이다. 오키나와라서 주차장도 돌고래 상어 오징어 이런건가. 유이레일 입구는 돌고래 주차장 바로 뒤다. 옆사람 눈치를 보며 티켓을 사고 이걸 어떻게 써야 하나 또 눈치를 봤더니 일본인이 와서 알아서 찍고 들여보내준다. 유이레일에 타니 비로소 살 것 같다. 에어컨이 나오니까! (펑) ＃유이레일에서 멍- 호텔로 잘 갈 수 있을까 못 가면 어떡하지 신문지 깔고 자야하나 아 그런데 살 것 같다 아무렇게나 생각들이 지나간다. 처음엔 바깥 구경도 하다가 나중에는 꾸벅꾸벅 존다. 한참 멍 때리고 있으니 동생이 사진을 찍는다. 에어컨을 한 20분쯤 쐬고 나니 그제야 정신이 돌아온다. 어제 잠을 못 잔 피로가 이제 막 몰려오는 기분이다. 우린 이번에 좋은 숙소에 묵기로 했다. 뚜벅이니까! 열심히 검색을 해 보니 익스피디아에서 티켓을 끊고, 거기서 호텔 10% 추가 할인을 받아서, 화-목쯤에 다녀오는 게 제일 싸길래 호텔 가격에 일정을 맞췄다. 하얏트와 힐튼 중에서 어디를 갈지 고민하다가, 하얏트가 일단 훨씬 쌌고 해피 타임에 괜찮은 술이 나온다고 하길래 결국 하얏트로 예약했다. 엔빵하니 2박에 34만원 정도라 지난번 제주도 숙소보다 훨씬 쌌다. 역시 국내여행 아무나 가는 거 아닌가. 짐은 방에 대충 던져놓고 술을 마시러 간다. 스냅사진 예약이 얼마 안 남아서, 마실 시간은 십분밖에 없다. 하지만 샴페인 단 한잔이라도 마시지 않으면 움직이지 못할 것만 같았다.  ＃하얏트 리젠시 나하 클럽 라운지 - 해피 타임 샴페인도 샴페인이지만 오리가 기가 막혔다. 수비드한 듯한 오리 로스에, 하얀 크림을 찍어 먹으면 짭쪼름하니 고소하고 달콤하고 부드럽고 하여튼 장난이 아니었다. 단 술을 좋아하지 않는데 샴페인도 엷은 단 맛에 쌉싸름하니 고기와 잘 어울렸다. 우린 기왕 라운지에 왔으니 오키나와 여행 잘 부탁해라던가 아무말을 붙여서 여유롭게 짠을 하고, 나머지 음식을 10분 안에 해치웠다. 실은 딱 한 잔만 더 마시고 싶었지만 이미 스냅 촬영 예약을 해 둔 상태라 그럴 수가 없었다. 술과 에어컨을 두고 떠나려니 가슴이 미어질 것 같았지만 가야 한다. 발걸음이 안 떨어진다. 그래도 술 한 잔을 하고 무거운 짐도 다 내려놓았더니 기분이 좋아졌다. 버스 정류장에 걸어 가려고 나가는데 또 구경할 게 한참 많다. 마키시 공설시장은 브레이크 타임인지 문을 닫은 가게들이 많았다. 레스토랑과 바를 겸한다는 어떤 가게를 구경하고 있자니 갑자기 문이 확 열린다. 그리고 거기서 무려 90년대 샤기컷을 한 남자가 나온다. 일명 도죠-컷. 착착 걸어서 내 동생에게 어설픈 영어로 말을 건다. 동생은 영어를 못 알아듣는다. 한자는 잘 안다. 그리고 더우면 사람 말을 잘 듣지 않고 맘대로 생각한다. 그건 나도 그렇다. 내가 동생과 다른 점이 있다면 영어는 알아듣고 한자는 일자무식이라는 거다. 그러니까 거기서부터 문제가 시작되었다. 나중에 들은 말이지만 동생은, 저런 머리를 하고서도 이 더위에 호객을 하느라 애쓰다니. 가게를 위해 본인의 메뉴를 저렇게 열정적으로 설명하다니. 대단하구나. 인생을 열심히 사는구나. 그래 기특하구나 내가 웃기라도 해 줘야겠다! 그런데 머리는 정말 이상하네. 하고 생각하는 중이었다고 한다. 그런데 사실은 저쪽 남자는 가게 어필보다는 다른 데에 목적이 있었다. 처음에는 저쪽이 저희 가게고 괜찮다고 말한 것까지는 맞았다. 그런데 동생이 생글생글 웃어주니까, 이따 가게 와서 자기를 지명하라는 둥, 한가하냐는 둥, 열정적으로 본인 어필을 하는 중이었다. 그리고 곁에 선 나는 평소같으면 말렸겠지만 술을 한 잔 해서 기분이 좋았고 동생이 무슨 생각을 하는 지도 대충 알겠고 남자가 열심히 착각을 하고 있는 상황 자체도 웃겨서 그냥 히죽히죽 웃고 있었다. 내버려두니 상황이 점점 진지해지길래, 동생의 어깨를 톡톡 쳤다. 야, 지금 메뉴 설명하는 거 아니야. 니가 맘에 든대. 뒤늦게 상황을 깨달은 동생을 데리고 걸어가면서 한참 웃었다. 이따가 밤에 저기 갈까? 하고 놀리니까 뭐라고 뭐라고 엄청 항의를 하는데, 그래도 나는 즐겁다.  ＃마키시 공설 시장에서, 동생을 찍고 모자이크 대신 낙서를 해 주었다 :-) 버스 정류장을 찾는 것도 긴 여정이었지만, 아메리칸 빌리지가 있는 차탄으로 가는 건 배는 더 먼 여정이었다. 하필 우리가 버스를 탄 시간이 퇴근 시간이라 버스는 가다 서다를 반복했다. 가이드북에서 일본 버스는 내릴 때 일어나도 된다는 말을 읽고도 믿지 않았는데, 정말이었다. 그런데 난관이 하나 있었다. 돈을 내릴 때 내야 하는데, 지폐를 어떻게 바꿀지 조금도 모르겠는 거다. 정류장에 도착해서 어물거리고 있으니 멋진 모자를 쓴 버스 운전사 아저씨가 씩 웃는다. 지폐 바꾸는 것부터 알려주더니 동전을 구분을 잘 못하자 직접 세서 넣어주기까지 한다. 그런데도 눈치 주는 사람 하나 없다. 아니면 우리가 눈치가 없었던 건가? 교통체증 덕에 스냅 시간에 늦어 버려서 깊이 생각할 틈이 없다. 얼른 달려가서 죄송하다는 말부터 하고 또 한다. 종종 나는 사진을 잘 찍는 사람을 보면 그 사람의 시선을 따라가 보곤 한다. 그 사람이 바라보는 곳에는 낯선 풍경들이 있을 테니까. 어쩐지 타인의 시선을 훔치는 기분도 들지만 이따금씩 궁금해서 견딜 수가 없다. 저 사람은 무얼 보고 있을까? 처음 본 사람이 어떤 생각을 하는 지는 당연히 알 수 없지만, 알려주는 장소마다 예쁜 빛이 떨어졌다. 날이 다 어두워지기 전에는 햇빛이, 어둑해지고 나서는 가로등 불빛이 은은하게 얼굴을 비췄다. 카메라 앞에서 딱딱해지기인 일쑤인 동생과 나는 사진을 안 찍을 때면 서로를 웃겨 주느라 바빴다. 때로는 별 말도 안 되는 농담을 해 가며. 언젠가 아는 사람에게 내가 이 동생과 있을 때 가장 행복한 얼굴을 한다는 이야기를 들은 기억이 나는데, 맞는 말인 것 같다. 오년 뒤나, 십년 뒤 일 같은 건 장담할 수 없지만, 그때도 내 곁에 있을 것만 같은 소중한 동생이니까. 스냅 작가님을 졸졸 따라서 한 시간 동안 사진을 찍고 나니 땀이 온 몸에 흥건하다. 원래는 아메리칸 빌리지를 더 둘러보고 한 잔 하고 돌아가려고 했는데. 왠걸. 지금은 그냥 맥주가 마시고 싶다. 막차 걱정하지 않고 왕창 술을 마시고 싶은 생각뿐이다. 우리는 서둘러 국제거리로 돌아가기로 했다. 스테이크와 맥주가 우리를 기다린다. 구글 지도에 스테이크 맛집만 여러 개 표시해뒀지만 그런건 더위에 지친 사람에게는 소용이 없었다. 우리는 버스에서 내려서 가장 먼저 눈에 들어온 스테이크 집에 막무가내로 들어갔다. 맥주! 고기!  ＃샘스 스테이크 국제거리점 - 아저씨가 현란한 손놀림을 보여준다 인터넷에서 여긴 그리 추천하지 않았던 것 같은데. 일단 배가 고프니까 뭐든지 잘 들어간다. 선한 표정의 아저씨가 오더니 저글링 쇼 같은 걸 하면서 고기를 굽기 시작한다. 이게 뭐람, 세상에. 이렇게 멋진 쇼를 보여주는 데다, 일단 먼저 구워 준 감자도 상당히 맛있었고, 에어컨 바람에 잔뜩 들뜨기까지 한 동생과 내가 어디서 주워들은 일본어를 마구 내뱉는다. 오! 사무라이! 스테키! 환호성에 꽤나 덤덤하던 아저씨가 사무라이라는 단어를 듣더니 삼단 저글링을 보여준다. 한참 물개박수를 치고 나니까 목이 마르다.  ＃오리온 맥주 오키나와에 오면 꼭 시켜야 한다던 오리온 맥주를 시켰다. 하루종일 걷고 나서 마시는 맥주보다 더 좋은 게 있을까. 고소하고 깔끔한 맛이다. 무난하다면 무난하고, 평범하다면 또 평범하고. 하지만 나는 퍽 마음에 들어서, 여행 내내 편의점에 갈 일이 있으면 꼭 두어 캔씩 사 마셨다. 사실 맥주 말고도 게이샤 어쩌고 하는 칵테일을 시켰는데..... 게이샤하고 원수지지 않고서야 이런 술을 줄까 싶었다. 술도 마시고, 고기도 실컷 먹었고, 어제는 한 잠도 못 잤고. 당연하게도 지친 우리는 편의점에서 맥주 네 캔을 사서 호텔로 돌아갔다. 슬프게도네 캔에 만원은 아니었지만. 목욕을 하고 맥주를 마셨을 뿐인데, 대체 언제 잠들었던 걸까. 만성 불면증 환자는 오랜만에 베개에 머리를 대자마자 잠에 곯아 떨어졌다. -둘째 날에서 계속. * 수박이님에 의해서 티타임 게시판으로부터 게시물 복사되었습니다 (2018-08-06 08:39) * 관리사유 : 추천게시판으로 복사합니다.
