https://new.redtea.kr/?b=31&n=98751 에서 영감을 받아.. 이 글은 아예 복싱을 배우지 않은 사람이 아닌, 현재 체육관을 다니는 사람을 대상으로 한 글입니다. 이 글은 제가 체육관을 다니는 11년 동안 느꼈던, 체육관에서 잘 알려주지 않는 것들, 미리 알았더라면 더 좋았을 것들에 대해 쓴 것입니다. 열 번의 말이 한 번의 봄보다 못하고, 열 번의 봄이 한 번의 행동보다 못합니다. 복싱을 배우는 가장 좋은 방법은 인터넷에서 글을 보고 뇌내무술을 펼치는 것이 아니라 실제로 샌드백을 쳐 보고, 스파링을 하는 것입니다. 결국 중요한 것은 몸으로 깨우쳐야만 합니다. 다만 안다면 더 빠르게 깨우칠 수 있을 뿐입니다. 관장님들이 가르치는 내용들은 체육관마다 차이가 있습니다. 어떤 관장님은 아마추어 스타일로 가르치고, 어떤 관장님은 프로 스타일로 가르칩니다. 어떤 관장님은 진도를 늦게 나가고, 어떤 관장님은 흥미를 위해 일단 진도를 빨리 나간 다음에 3달 이상 다니는 사람들을 대상으로 다시 처음부터 가르칩니다. 그런 면에서 정답은 없습니다. 하지만 그런 복싱의 다양한 스펙트럼들 속에서도, 그들이 공유하는 기본 원리라는 것은 존재합니다. 이 글이 그런 의미에서 도움이 되기를 바랍니다. 복싱의 정식 용어와 체육관식 용어는 차이가 많습니다. 그런 의미에서 발음기호 같은 느낌으로, 체육관에서 주로 쓰는 말들은 대괄호[ ]안에 명시하였습니다. 예) 우측으로 슬리핑→라이트 스트레이트[슥-빵] 그럼 이제 시작하겠습니다.  1. 스탠스(stance) : 하체 편 복싱에서 가장 먼저 배우는 것은 스탠스, 즉 자세입니다. 원래 교과서의 1장이 제일 재미가 없듯이, 복싱에서 맨 처음 배우는 스탠스 역시 별로 재미가 없습니다. 하지만, 스탠스는 익숙해질수록 일관성을 띠고 잘못된 습관을 교정하기 어려워집니다. 맨 처음 좋은 습관을 들여놓는 것은 언제나 다음 단계로 순조롭게 넘어가기 위한 토대입니다. 먼저 체육관에 등록하면 관장님이 가장 먼저 물어보는 것은 오른손잡이인지, 왼손잡이인지입니다. 복싱에서 오른손잡이는 오소독스(orthodox)라고 하고, 왼손잡이는 사우스포(southpaw)라고 합니다. 오소독스의 경우 왼손을 앞에, 오른손을 뒤에 두게 되며 왼손잡이는 그 반대로 둡니다. 이 둘은 처음에는 비슷한 내용을 배우지만, 결국에는 크게 달라집니다. 하지만 지금 단계에서는 좌우가 바뀌었을 뿐 아무 것도 다르지 않습니다. 여기서는 다수인 오소독스를 기준으로 설명하겠습니다.  맨 처음으로, 다리입니다. 두 다리는 어께 넓이로 벌린 다음, 자신의 몸을 원점으로 했을 때, 왼발을 2사분면, 오른발을 4사분면에 놓고, 왼발을 약 40도, 오른발을 60도 정도로 틀어줍니다. 이 때 체중은 두 발에 5:5정도, 혹은 약간 뒷발에 더 가중치를 두는 4:6정도로 분배합니다. 그 다음 왼발은 붙이고, 오른발 뒤꿈치는 살짝 들며, 양 무릎을 살짝 굽힙니다. 이것이 약간의 논란이 있을 수 있지만 가장 보편적인 자세입니다. 그럼 논란이 되는 부분은 무엇인가를 보겠습니다. 첫째로 앞발을 40도 정도로 꺾어야 하는지에 대해 차이가 있는 체육관이 있습니다. 어떤 체육관은 앞발을 정면으로(즉 0도로) 바라봐도 괜찮다고 가르칩니다. 하지만 앞발을 정면으로 하게 되면 두 가지 문제점이 있습니다. i) 상대방에게 정면을 노출시키게 되며, ii) 레프트훅에서 뒷발을 돌리는 체육관의 경우 레프트훅에 충분한 회전력을 싣지 못합니다. 따라서 앞발은 40도 정도로 틀어 주는 것이 맞다고 생각합니다.  두 번째로 뒷발의 경우, 어떤 정답은 없으며, 선택만이 있습니다. 뒷발을 0도에 가깝게 하면 정면으로의 킥킹이 유리하여 공격적이고 인파이팅을 위한 스타일에 적합합니다. 반면 뒷발이 90도에 가까울수록 아웃복서 스타일의, 서클링(상대방을 두고 옆으로 피하는 스텝)에 유리합니다. 예컨대 위의 사진의 경우, 들어가려는 오스카 델 라 호야(검은색 트렁크)의 뒷발과, 받아치려는 버나드 홉킨스(자주색 트렁크)의 뒷발은 둘의 성향 차이를 잘 보여줍니다. 일단 처음에는 자신이 선호하는 스타일을 알지 못하기 때문에 45도에서 60도 사이의 각도를 유지하는 것이 좋다고 생각합니다.  세 번째는 두 발이 이루는 각도에 대한 것입니다. 두 발이 일직선에 가까울수록 전후 움직임이 쉬워지곤 합니다. 그래서 나중에 스텝을 배워서 스텝을 뛰다 보면 위의 2번(오렌지색 그림)처럼 되기 일쑤입니다. 하지만 그렇게 되면 오른손 펀치에 제대로 힘을 줄 수 없습니다. 따라서 두 발은 일직선이 되어선 안 되고, 두 다리는 충분히 45도로 벌려줘야 합니다.  그래서 이런 만화의 한 장면도 있습니다.  네 번째로, 이건 체육관 사이의 컨센서스가 있는 것은 아니지만 제 개인적인 의견으로 앞발은 머리보다 앞에 두는 것이 좋습니다. 앞발을 머리보다 뒤에 두게 되면, 펀치를 칠 때, 체중이동을 이기지 못하고 몸이 휘청이게 됩니다. 특히 샌드백을 칠 때는 자신의 휘청임을 샌드백이 받아주기 때문에 잘 느끼지 못하지만 상대가 맞아주지 않는 스파링, 쉐도우 복싱을 할 때는 이런 일이 자주 일어납니다. 따라서 앞발을 머리 앞으로 두지 않는 사람들은 점차 체중을 싣지 못하게 됩니다. 또한, 앞발의 경우 상대방이 자신의 안쪽으로 들어오지 못하게 하는 최전선(frontline)의 역할을 합니다. 농구에서 리바운드를 따기 위해선 키가 아니라 하체로 자리를 잡는 박스아웃이 중요하듯이, 인파이터가 자신의 공간 안으로 돌진해 올 때 중요한 것은 상체로 상대의 펀치를 피해내는 것이 아니라 앞발로 버티는 것입니다. 잠시, 전 캐나다 올림픽 대표팀 코치이자 여러 프로 선수들의 헤드코치였던 러스 앰버의 강의 영상을 빌려 오겠습니다. 3분부터 약 1분간 보시면 됩니다. https://youtu.be/aMX2g8SzEM0?t=3m3s 마지막으로, 무릎을 굽혀주는 것은 체중이 상체가 아닌 하체에 있도록 하는 데 도움이 될 뿐만 아니라, 나중에 펀치를 위해 체중을 이동시킬 때도 몸의 밸런스를 잃지 않도록 도와줍니다. 2. 스탠스 : 상체 편  이제 하체에서 상체로 올라가겠습니다. 상체는 하체보다 간단합니다. 몸은 약간 틀어준 채, 턱을 숙이고 두 팔을 올려줍니다. 그 다음 어께에서 힘을 뺍니다. 오른손은 턱에 가져다 대고, 왼손은 턱에 붙이기보다는 살짝 앞으로 내민 형태가 보통입니다. 어떤 체육관에서는 왼쪽 손목이 눈 높이가 가도록 지도하기도 합니다. 하지만 꼭 그럴 필요는 없습니다. 턱을 숙이는 것은 가장 중요합니다. 초심자들이 처음부터, 꾸준히, 계속해서 들을 말은 바로 "가드를 올려라"입니다. 그런데 초심자들은 팔이 아파서 가드를 못 올린다고 호소합니다. 아직 복싱을 시작한 지 얼마 되지 않아서, 어께 근육이 아프다는 것입니다. 하지만 그 말은 부분적으로만 사실입니다. -가드 안 올리냐? 턱을 숙인 채 상대의 상반신을 모두 보려면 결국 눈을 치켜뜬 표정이 됩니다. 이 표정은 복싱에 아직 익숙하지 않은 우리에게 어색합니다. 하지만 이 표정, 이 시야야말로 모든 복서들이 공유하는 시야입니다. 모든 위대한 인파이터들은 그들의 이마에 훈장과도 같은 균열을 갖고 있습니다.  -위대한 인파이터 훌리오 세자르 차베스, 그의 이마에는 선명한 주름살이 가로지르고 있다. 따라서 오른쪽 손으로 턱과 복부를, 왼손으로는 턱과 관자놀이를 막습니다. 물론 크라우칭 스탠스(crouching stance)를 사용하는 경우 상체를 말아쥠으로써 복부를 보호하기 때문에 오른손을 관자놀이까지 막는 경우도 흔합니다. 왼손 역시 꼭 관자놀이까지 올릴 필요 없이, 자유롭게 왔다갔다 할 수 있습니다. 두 팔이 벌려진 각도는 정면에서 봤을 때 I I 자로 놓거나, / I 자로 두는 게 보통입니다. 가드가 양 옆으로 벌어져 있을 경우 상대방의 스트레이트에 취약하며, 너무 좁힐 경우 상대방의 훅에 취약해집니다. 하지만 보다 사실은 초심자인 우리의 턱은 계속해서 가드블록 위쪽으로 솟아오른다는 것이겠죠. 한 마디를 덧붙이자면, 초심자일수록 상하체를 분리하여 생각하는 경향이 있습니다. 스텝은 하체, 펀치는 상체, 가드는 팔 이런 식이죠. 하지만 우리는 전신 운동을 하고 있습니다. 달리기를 하면서 상체는 가만히 붙이고만 있다고 생각하면 이런 분리적인 사고방식이 얼마나 이상한 것인지 알 수 있을 것입니다. 가드는 계속해서 움직일 수 있고, 상체를 움직임으로써 하체와 함께 몸 전체의 스탠스를 조절할 수 있습니다. 가드블록에 대한 얘기는 나중에 좀 더 자세하게 해 보겠습니다. 이렇게 팔을 턱에 가져다 붙이고, 어께에서 힘을 빼면 안정감 있는 스탠스가 완성됩니다. 3. 업라이트 스탠스 v. 크라우칭 스탠스 위에서 저는 체육관마다 조금씩 가르치는 스타일이 다르며 어떤 체육관은 아마추어 스타일로, 어떤 체육관은 프로 스타일로 가르친다고 말했습니다. 이 것이 가장 잘 드러나는 부분이 바로 스탠스입니다.  우리가 일반적으로 아마추어 스타일이라고 말하는 업라이트 스탠스는 체중이동보다는 빠른 스텝과 잔 펀치에 초점을 둔 스탠스입니다. 아마추어 복싱은 상대에 대한 타격보다는 정타로 인한 포인트제로 운영되기 때문에 빠른 인앤아웃으로 포인트를 따고 빠르게 뒤로 빠져야 하기 때문입니다. 업라이팅 스탠스에서는 다리를 어께 넓이 정도로 벌리고 앞손을 길게 내뻗습니다.  반면 프로 스타일의 스탠스는 크라우칭 스탠스(crouching stance)라 불리며 업라이트 스탠스에 비해 양 발을 넓게 놓고, 가드를 좀 더 좁힙니다. 크라우칭 스탠스의 핵심은 머리-허리-엉덩이-오른쪽 발을 메인 축으로 하고, 골반-왼다리를 보조 축으로 하여 메인 축을 보조 축이 받치는 ㅅ자형 형태입니다. 크라우칭 스탠스는 업라이트 스탠스에 비해 스텝의 전진 후진이 힘들지만 훅이나 스트레이트 같은 강펀치를 던짐에 있어 업라이트보다 유리한 이점이 있습니다. 이는 넓은 양발이 안정된 체중 중심을 제공하기 때문입니다.  -업라이트 스탠스 v. 크라우칭 스탠스 그래도 저는 업라이트 스탠스를 추천합니다. 왜냐하면 대부분의 체육관들이 업라이트 스탠스를 기본으로 가르치고 있다는 것, 링에 올라가면 초심자들은 다리가 넓어지곤 하기 때문에 업라이트로 배워도 크라우칭처럼 변해 버린다는 점 때문입니다. 어차피 모든 초심자들은 양 스탠스가 혼합된 형태에서 서서히 자신의 개성을 드러내기 때문에 너무 신경쓰지 않아도 됩니다. 자기는 프로 스타일인데도 계속 아마추어 스타일을 강요당하면 문제가 되겠지만요. 이상으로 복싱 스탠스에 대해 알아보는 것을 마치겠습니다. 마지막으로 요약을 하면 다음과 같습니다.  -양발을 적당히 벌려 45도로 비껴서 선다. -중심은 하체에, 양 발에는 5:5 내지 4:6정도로 체중을 둔다. -무릎은 살짝 구부리고, 뒷발의 뒷꿈치는 살짝 들어준다. -앞발은 머리의 그림자(수선의 발) 앞에 두어야 체중의 안정성을 유지할 수 있다. -턱을 숙여야 가드를 하고 있는 팔이 아프지 않다. -팔은 계속해서 바꿀 수 있지만, 주로 관자놀이, 턱, 복부 중 턱을 포함한 두 군데를 방어한다. -프로 스타일의 크라우칭 스탠스, 아마추어 스타일의 업라이트 스탠스가 있다. 체육관에 따라 가르치는 스탠스가 다르고, 매 스탠스마다 장단점이 존재한다. 달성과제 : 없음 다음 글은 스텝입니다. *** 참고 : 이미 스타일이 확고한 선수들은 때로 위에서 설명한 사항의 예외처럼 보입니다. 예컨대 플로이드 메이웨더나 로이 존스 주니어, 나심 하메드 같은 이들이 그렇죠. 하지만 이들도 큰 차원에서 차이는 없으며, 이들 역시 복싱의 근본적인 규칙들을 위반할 수는 없습니다. 메이웨더의 스타일에 대해서는 밑의 두 글을 참고하십시오. http://aquavitae.egloos.com/3301279 http://aquavitae.egloos.com/3518032 * 수박이두통에게보린님에 의해서 티타임 게시판으로부터 게시물 복사되었습니다 (2018-06-18 08:08) * 관리사유 : 추천게시판으로 복사합니다.
