어제 동생에게 전화가 왔다. 강원도 모 부대에서 통신병(전산)으로 근무하고 있는 동생은 말로는 잘 지낸다고 했다. 말로는. 하지만 캐물으면 수없이도 많은 불만을 얘기한다. 나는 그걸 들어준다. 어제는 이랬고 오늘은 저랬고 이래서 싫고 저래서 힘들고. 아직까지 동기 한명도 없이 선임만 가득한 부대에서 얼마나 힘들지 알기에 동생과의 전화는 끊어지질 않는다. 아마 동생도 이런 얘기를 나눌 수 있는 사람이 없을 거다. 친구들은 미필이거나 복무중이고 부모님에겐 괜한 걱정 끼치기 싫으니 형한테 전화한 거겠지. 난 내 동생이 군 생활에 잘 적응할 거라고 생각했다. 최소한 나보다는. 근데 동생은 내 생각보다 더 군 생활에 적응하기 힘들어하고 있었다. 그제서야 생각이 났다. 내가 개인주의자인만큼 동생도 개인주의자였다는 것을. 또 컴공과 1학년에 덕후 기질이 다분한 애를 '군대는' 그런 애들을 좋아하지 않는다. 주니까 받는 거지. 동생의 통화를 듣고 있으니 내 군생활과는 너무 다르게 느껴졌다. 군대는 동생이 더 늦게 갔는데 부대 내 분위기는 오히려 내가 더 나았다. 그러자 문득 생각이 났다. 행정보급관. 우리 부대 행정보급관은 의무부사관이여서 그런지는 몰라도 굉장히 독특한 사람이였다. 부조리를 그냥 두지를 못했다. 모든 일은 공평하게 해야 했고 선임과 후임이 하는 일의 경계를 나누지 않았다. 가장 사소한 일이더라도 무조건 같이 해야만 했다. 그게 나가서 풀을 뽑는 것이던 청소를 하는 것이던. 후임들 짐 옮기는데 가만히 있던 선임은 다음날 짐 싸서 GP에 보내버렸다. 부대 내에서 사수/부사수가 업무로 논쟁이 생기니 둘 다 만족시킬 수 있는 최선의 해답을 찾았다. (본인은 조금 귀찮아졌지만) 단순히 부대원의 숫자가 적어서, 의무병만 있는 의무중대여서 그랬던 걸까? 잠깐잠깐 파견 근무를 나가서 다른 부대를 볼 때엔 여기는 이런 부조리가 있네, 하며 신기해했던 적이 있었다. 아마도 그게 디폴트값이였나 보다. 누군가가 그걸 없애고 있던 거구나. 우리 부대가 좋은 거였고 우리 간부가 최선을 다해 바꾸고 있었던 거구나. 고마워졌다. 갑자기 예전 문자를 돌려봤다. 전역 전날이였다. "저녁 먹고 늦지않게 복귀해" "낼 전역 축하한다" + 동생에겐 아무런 말을 해 줄 수가 없었다. 위에다 찔러서 바꾸라고 하기엔 동생이 받을 불이익이 걱정이 됬고 그냥 조금만 버티라고 하다가 사고가 날 것 같아서 그런 말도 할 수가 없었다. 뭐라도 얘기를 해 줬어야 되는데..... * 수박이두통에게보린님에 의해서 티타임 게시판으로부터 게시물 복사되었습니다 (2018-04-09 07:57) * 관리사유 : 추천게시판으로 복사합니다.
