 1. 노출이란 무엇인가? - 오늘은 조금 어려울수도 있는 사진 개념을 들고 왔습니다. 바로 "노출(exposure)" 인데요. 사진이란 메커니즘 자체가 감광면(필름 혹은 센서)에 렌즈를 통한 빛을 노출시켜서 상을 새기는 방법이라, 결국엔 사진 그 자체가 노출 그 자체라고도 할 수 있습니다. - 결국엔 자기가 원하는 사진을 찍으려면 빛을 얼마만큼 감광면에 들이부어야 되는지, 즉 라면으로 친다면 물을 얼마나 맞춰야하는지에 해당하는 것이 노출값을 조정하는 일이라고 할 것입니다. 너무 많이 부으면 싱겁게, 너무 적게 부으면 짜게 되는 것처럼, 노출이 부족하면 어둡게, 노출이 과하면 너무 밝게 사진이 나와버리는 것이죠. 그래서 이 노출값을 조정하는 것에 대해서 아는대로 써볼까 합니다. - 노출은 룩스 값으로 측정되는데, 사진에서는 이 값을 따로 정리하여 EV(Exposure Value)라는 개념으로 만들었습니다. 구형 수동카메라시절에는 기본적으로 이 노출값을 직접 사용자가 잡아줘야 했으나, 요즘나오는 자동카메라들은 기본적으로 사진찍는 환경에 맞는 적절한 노출값을 알아서 잡아줍니다. 물론 카메라도 완벽하지 않아서 항상 정확하진 않지만 그래도 수동으로 잡아주는 것에 비하면 많이 편해졌죠. 즉 라면 끓일때 물의 량을 자동으로 잡아주는 계량컵과 같은 것이죠.. - 이와 같은 노출에 영향을 주는 3가지 요소가 바로 조리개, 셔터스피드 그리고 감도입니다. 이하에서는 이 요소들에 대해 하나한 살펴보기로 합시다. 2. 조리개 - 조리개는 렌즈에 달려있는, 빛의 양을 조절하는 장치입니다. 조리개를 열면 빛이 많이 들어오고, 조리개를 닫으면 빛이 적게 들어오게 됩니다. 조리개값은 렌즈마다 적혀있는 F값으로 표시가 되는데, F값은 초점거리/렌즈의 유효 구경으로 계산이 됩니다. 예컨데 F값이 1인 50mm 렌즈가 있다면 렌즈의 유효구경이 50이라는 것이고, 당연히 F값이 작을수록 렌즈의 유효구경이 크기 떄문에 빛을 많이 받을 수 있습니다. 결과적으로 F값이 적은 렌즈가 대체적으로 가격이 높기도 하구요. - F값을 계산하는 단위는 1을 기준으로 하여 2의 제곱근의 배수로 커집니다(이를 한 스탑이라고 합니다). 슬슬 어려운 이야기가 나오는 것 같습니다만. 간단하게 말해서 기본 단위가 F1 - F1.4 - F2 - F2.8 ...이런식으로 1.4배씩 조절이 된다는 거죠. 즉 F1.4상태가 F2.보다 두배 더 빛을 받아들이게 됩니다. - 조리개값을 조정하는 것은 빛을 더 많이 받기 위한 목적도 있지만, 소위 아웃포커싱이라 하는, 피사계심도가 낮은 사진을 찍을 떄 조리개값이 낮을수록 유리하기 때문에 그와 같은 표현을 위해서 조리개값을 낮추는 경우가 많습니다. 소위 아웃포커싱이라는 사진기법은 단지 조리개값만을 가지고 결정되는 요소는 아니지만 같은 조건이라면 F값이 낮은(즉 조리개를 더 활짝 열 수 있는)렌즈가 더 유리하거든요. 이에 대해서는 추후에 다시 한번 글을 쓸...지도 모르겠지만 여튼 이 항목은 조리개에 대한 내용이니 이정도로 접어두기로 하죠. - 여튼, 조리개를 열고 닫고 하는 건 이와 같은 기능을 갖습니다. F값이 낮은 렌즈가 일반적으로 비싸다고 한 것도 아무래도 렌즈가 커지다 보니 생산단가가 올라가기 떄문이지요. 3. 셔터스피드 - 셔터스피드는 말 그대로 찰칵 하는 시간입니다. 셔터스피드가 짧으면 찰칵!, 길면 차아아아아아아아알칵! - 셔터스피드의 계산법은 간단합니다 한 단계(한 스탑)를 올리기 위해서는 2배씩 빨라지거든요. 즉 1/4000 - 1/2000 - 1/1000 - 1/500 - 1/250 이런식으로 속도가 점점 느려집니다. - 셔터스피드를 빠르게 설정하면 빛을 적게 받아들이고, 길면 많이 받아들입니다. 길게 설정할수록 아무래도 흔들림에 취약하고 움직이는 피사체의 경우 잔상이 남게 됩니다. - 셔터스피드를 셔터가 움직이는 속도로 착각하시는 분들도 가끔 있으신데, 정확히는 촬상면(감광면)이 빛에 노출되는 시간을 의미하는 것입니다. 요즘 대부분의 카메라가 채용하는 포컬플레인 셔터는 선막과 후막으로 구성되는데 선막이 올라가고, 그 다음에 후막이 올라가는 구조로 되어있습니다. 즉 커튼 두개가 상하로 움직이는데 선막이 올라가고 그 다음에 후막이 따라올라가는 그 사이의 시간간격이 셔터스피드라는 것이죠. 즉 스타트 시간의 차이입니다. 만약 셔터 자체가 1/4000로 움직인다면 아마 카메라 내부에서 소닉붐이 일어났을 겁니다. ㄷㄷㄷ 선막과 후막은 1/125의 속도로 일정하게 움직입니다. - 셔터스피드를 길게 해서 찍는, 소위 장노출 사진의 경우에는 앞서 말했다시피 잔상을 찍을 수 있고, 연속성있는 액션을 찍을 수 있어서 그런 기법을 의도하고 가져가는 경우도 많고, 야경처럼 빛이 적어서 조리개를 최대개방해도 어찌할 수 없을 경우, 삼각대에 카메라를 걸어놓고 장시간 노출해서 충분한 노출량을 확보할때도 사용합니다. 4. 감도 - 감도는 촬상면(감광면)이 얼마만큼 빛을 예민하게 받아들이는가에 대한 개념입니다. 빛을 쏟아지는 물이라고 했을 경우에 매끈매끈한 철판보다 스폰지가 더 물을 많이 머금을 수 있듯이, 감도가 높을수록 빛을 더 많이 받아들입니다. 다만 스폰지와 철판의 차이처럼, 감도를 올릴수록 노이즈가 생겨 사진에 입자감이 생깁니다. 거칠거칠해지는거죠. - 감도의 계산은 ISO값이라고 하여 100-200-400-800-1600-3200...이런식으로 두배씩 올라갑니다. 쉽죠? 요즘 카메라는 6400은 기본이고 12800이나 25600도 손쉽게 올리더라구요. - 카메라의 셀링포인트가 되는 "고감도 저노이즈"라는 멘트도 바로 이 부분을 개선시키는 겁니다. 고감도에서 입자감을 줄이는 기술. 신형 센서를 채용한 카메라들의 꽤 강력한 마케팅포인트가 됩니다. 5. 종합문제 - 따로따로 해설하다보니 대충 뭔지는 알겠는데 아직도 잘 모르는 부분들이 있으시죠? 노출의 3요소는 단독으로 움직이는 것이 아니라 함께 움직이는 거라서 어려운 부분이 있는 것 같습니다. 간단한 예제문제(?)를 함께 풀어봅시다. - 카메라가 어떤 피사체에 대해 적정노출을 다음과 같이 측정을 했습니다. [ F4, ISO100, 1/100s ] 이와 같이 측광한 상황에서 셔터스피드를 한스탑 더 빠르게 가져가려면 어떻게 해야 할까요? A> 셔터스피드는 두배씩 빨라진다고 했으니까 한스탑 더 빠른 값은 1/200s가 됩니다. 그렇기 때문에 더 빠른 셔터스피드 값을 위해서는 (1) 조리개를 한스탑 더 열거나, (2) 감도를 한스탑 더 예민하게 가져가야합니다. 그렇다면 F값을 한스탑 더 낮게 가져간다면 (2의 제곱근인 1.4로 나눈 값인) F2.8로 사진을 찍거나, 감도를 한스탑 더 예민하게 설정한 ISO200으로 설정해서 찍으시면 됩니다. 문제에서 예시한 값들을 모두 조정해서 값을 설정하게 된다면 다음과 같은 등가노출(같은 값을 가지는 노출)을 가지는 등식도 자유롭게 만들 수 있습니다. [F2, ISO200, 1/800s] = [F4, ISO100, 1/100s] = [F2.8, ISO400, 1/800s] - 즉 무언가 한스탑 더 올라가면, 같은 값을 맞추기 위해선 나머지 두 값 중 어느 하나가 한스탑 내려가야 똑같은 노출상황(표현은 달라지지만)을 맞출 수 있다는 겁니다. 어떤 요소가 두스탑 올라간다면 나머지 두 요소 중 하나의 값을 두 스탑 내리거나 각자 한스탑씩 내리거나 하는 방법도 있구요. 6. 그래서 어떻게 뭘 조정하면 되는건가요? 요즘은 스마트폰에도 전문가모드가 많이 지원되지만, 사진을 본격적으로 찍는다는 것은 기본적으로 PSAM이라 하는 (캐논계열에서는 P, Tv, Av, M 이라고도 하더라구요) 모드를 다루는 것부터 시작합니다. (1) P모드 (Program) - 프로그램 모드입니다. ISO 값 이외에 설정할 수 있는 건 거의 없고 카메라가 알아서 다 찍어줍니다. 그만큼 사진사의 표현 의도는 제한되지만, 언제든 적절한 사진을 적절하게 찍을 수 있다는 점에서 장점이 있죠. (2) A모드(aperture) = Av - aperture는 조리개라는 뜻입니다. 조리개를 조절하는 것이죠. ISO값과 함께 조리개값을 바꾸면 셔터스피드가 알아서 바뀝니다. F1.4 에서 F2로 더 조이면 셔터스피드가 알아서 더 느려지는 것이죠. (3) S모드(Shutter Speed) = Tv - A모드와 반대입니다. 설정한 셔터스피드에 따라 조리개가 적정노출에 맞게 바뀝니다. (4) M모드(Manual) - 카메라 태업모드입니다. 즉 카메라는 적정노출을 측정하지 않습니다. 사용자가 알아서 조리개값, 셔터스피드를 설정해서 자기한테 맞는 노출값을 찾습니다. 소위 뇌출계라고 하는, 머릿속에 이쯤 설정하면 적정노출이 나오겠군. 하는 감각을 가지고 설정해야 하는데, 외부조명장치를 따로 사용하거나 빛이 여기저기 많은 복합조명의 상황에서 사용하게 됩니다. 물론 구형 필름카메라에서도 사용하구요. (5) 감도모드는 없나요? - 감도는 카메라 내부에서 본인이 고정값으로 사용할 수 있고, 또 Auto로 두고 사용할 수도 있는데, 따로 카메라에 모드로 존재하지는 않습니다. 감도는 설정해두면 PAS모드에서 다른 값들이 알아서 따라오게 되거든요. 즉 본인이 허용할 수 있는 노이즈의 수준을 생각해서 감도를 상황에 따라 설정하시면 됩니다. 처음에 잘 모르시는 경우에는 오토로 설정해두셔도 되구요. 7. 정리하며 - 사실 알고보면 간단한 수학의 비례공식을 몇개 본 것 뿐인데 이게 무슨말인가 싶으실 겁니다. 그래서 간단하게 정리해보겠습니다. (1) 노출의 3요소는 조리개, 셔터스피드, 감도이다. (2) 조리개를 열면 아웃포커싱이 잘되고, 빠른 셔터스피드 혹은 낮은 감도를 사용할 수 있다. (3) 셔터스피드를 느리게하면 조리개를 더 닫거나, 낮은 감도를 사용할 수 있다. (4) 감도를 높이면 노이즈는 생기지만 조리개를 닫거나 셔터스피드를 빠르게 가져갈 수 있다.
