  1. 들어가며 사진을 2006년에 취미로 시작했으니 벌써 햇수로는 10년이 넘어갔지만, 아직도 셔터를 누르는 느낌은 항상 생경하고 결과물들은 다분히 자기만족적으로 나오는 취미사진사입니다. 예전만큼 카메라가 팔리는 시절도 아니고 크고 무거운 카메라들보다는 언제든 손에 잡을 수 있는 스마트폰이 카메라를 대체하면서 소위 "똑딱이"라고 하는 포인트슈팅 카메라시장이 소멸하다시피 해버렸음에도 불구하고 오히려 우리 생활은 인증샷이라던가 소셜미디어 등의 영향으로 사진과 더 가까워지지 않았나 싶습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 / 혹은 그래서 그런지, 과연 "사진"이라는 취미가 갖는 취미로서의 의미는 그 전보다 많이 희석된 느낌이 있습니다. 우리의 귀찮음은 무언가를 새로 시작하는 것을 거부하고, 광학을 기반으로 한 사진술이란 것은 전문적이고 장비를 갖춘 소수의 것으로 여전히 남아있는지도 모를 일입니다. 물론 이는 '작가주의'를 표방하던 카메라제조사들의 마케팅의 영향도 있겠으나, 최근에 많은 카메라회사들이 마케팅 캐치프레이즈를 '아빠카메라', '당신도 할 수 있어요', '어렵지 않아요'로 바꾼 것 처럼 사진이라는 취미가 결코 어려운 취미는 아니라서 누구나 사진을 좀 더 가깝고 쉬운 취미로 생각했으면 하는 바람에서 이 글을 시작하게 되네요. 2. 사진, 왜 어렵다고 생각하는 것일까요? 카메라를 다루기 시작한 햇수에 비하면 상당히 저렴한 실력을 가지고 있지만, 그래도 가끔 사진을 알려달라는 부탁을 받곤 하는데, 사진술 교과서에 나오는 노출의 3요소라던가, 피사계심도라던가, 촛점거리, 판형 등등을 설명해주다 보면 항상 듣는 말이 있습니다. '그래서, 어떻게 찍으면 된다는 말인데?' 물론 저런 개념들은 사진을 진지하게 배우게 되면 꼭 알아야 될 개념들이기는 하지만, 막상 현장에서 직접 적용하기에는 지난한 노력과 무거운 마음가짐이 필요한 면도 있죠. 일단 이와 같은 광학적인 설명이 우리를 사진이라는 취미로부터 멀어지게 하는 것 같습니다. 그래서 어렵다는 오해를 불식시키고, 조금은 야매스럽지만 그래도 간단하게나마 바로 활용할 수 있는, 당장 스마트폰 카메라로도 활용 가능한 몇가지 팁들을 적어볼까 합니다. 3. 렌즈는 닦으셨나요? 사진을 찍는 분들은 아시겠지만, 렌즈 관리는 꽤 중요한 부분입니다. 아끼는 렌즈가 기스라도 날까봐 대물렌즈부에 MCUV필터라던가 렌즈캡을 씌워서 보호하고, 레즈관리 킷을 사서 블로어로 먼지를 털어가며 찍고, 제습함과 제습제를 사서 여름철 곰팡이 관리도 하고, 이와 같이 관리하는 건 렌즈에 묻은 이물질 등이 사진의 품질에 영향을 미치는 경우가 많기 때문입니다. 그런데 스마트폰의 경우에는 애초에 렌즈를 관리하기 힘든 구조로 되어있고, 스마트폰의 카메라 모듈을 보호하는 고릴라글래스 정도는 스크래치에도 강하며, 스크래치나 먼지가 다소 있다고 하더라도 사진의 품질에 크게 영향을 끼치지 않습니다. 어찌 보면 장점이죠. 그러나 스마트폰의 경우에는 카메라의 위치가 손이 닿는 곳에 있다보니, 손에서 나오는 기름 등이 묻는 경우가 많습니다. 이와 같은 유분이 묻어있는 상태로 사진을 촬영하게 되면 빛이 유분이 묻어있는 방향으로 늘어나게 찍히는 등 사진이 매우 보기 싫게 나옵니다. 따라서 사진을 찍기 전에 휴지라던가, 안경닦이 등으로 잘 닦아주시고 찍으면 좀 더 깨끗한 사진을 얻을 수 있습니다. 닦는 방향은 원형을 그리면서 닦아주셔야 빛이 퍼지는 모양도 예쁘게 나오게 됩니다. 직선으로 슥슥 닦아주시면 직선 모양으로 유분이 퍼질 뿐입니다. 4. 수평과 흔들림 의외로 많은 분들이 놓치는 부분입니다. "일단 프레임 안에 들어 왔으니, 찍는다"의 프로세스로 찍는 경우가 많습니다. 하지만 찍는 사람의 자세와, 수평을 맞춰서 찍었는지는 생각보다 좋은 사진을 건지는데 필수적입니다. 물론 의도적으로 구도를 틀어 찍는 경우도 있으나, 흔들리지 않는 수평이 맞은 사진은 모든 사진의 기본이죠! 5. 삼분할법을 이용하여 실패한 사진을 피하자! 삼분할법은 알아두면 꽤 유용한 구도법입니다. 처음에 사진을 찍을 때부터 지금까지 즐겨 이용하는 구도인데요. 별건 없고 첨부파일에 올려둔 사진처럼 3분할의 가로세로 직선이 교차하는 4개의 지점에 피사체를 올려놓고 찍는 것입니다. 3분할법이 기본이 된 것은 황금비와 가장 유사한 값으로 산정된 것이기 때문이죠. 피사체를 가운데에 두는 것도 물론 사진 구도법중에 하나겠으나, 4개의 교차점 어딘가에 피사체를 올려놓는 것만으로 지루한 사진이 재미있게 변화하는 경험을 하게 됩니다. 물론 저 4개의 점 이외에 풍경사진에서도 각 직선에 걸쳐서 구도를 잡으면 사진이 더 안정적으로 찍힙니다. 예컨대 바다와 하늘을 찍을 때 수평선을 아래로부터 1/3 지점에 올려놓고 찍는다거나 하는 방법으로요. 삼분할법을 기본으로 하여 구도를 조금씩 바꿔가면서 찍으면, 자신의 의도를 조금씩 사진에 반영하는 법도 알게 되는 것 같습니다. 6. 인물사진 테크닉 (1) 시선이 향하는 곳을 비우자 증명사진이나 여권사진 혹은 단체사진은 주로 정면을 보고 찍지만, 우리가 누군가를 찍어줄 때 정면을 바라보는 경우는 생각보다 많지 않습니다, 특히 캔디드 샷(모델이 인식하지 못하는 순간의 자연스러운 모습을 담은 사진)이나 스냅사진의 경우 특히 그렇죠. 이와 같은 경우에는 시선이 향하는 곳은 기본적으로 비워두는 것이 좋습니다. 왼쪽으로 시선이 향하면 왼쪽을 비우는 식으로요. 사진이라는 이미지를 볼때 사진의 등장인물의 시선을 주로 쫓아가기 마련인데 시선이 향한 곳이 사진 프레임으로 막혀 있으면 꽤나 답답하고 좁은 느낌을 줍니다. 물론 그와 같은 의도를 가지고 인위적으로 시선이 향한 곳을 막아버리는 수도 있지만, 그런 의도 없이 대체로 자연스러운 사진을 찍고 싶다면 시선이 향하는 곳은 비우는 것이 좋습니다. (2) 렌즈의 위치를 과감히 아래로 내려보자! 여행을 가서 사진을 찍는 모습을 생각해봅시다. 여기서 사진을 찍자고 정하고, 찍는 사람도 멀뚱히 서서, 찍히는 사람도 멀뚱히 서서 찍는다! 하나 둘 셋! 그리고는 SNS에 올릴 기록용 사진을 하나 건집니다. 물론 이와 같이 친구들과 찍는 사진도 의미가 있으나 기왕 찍는거 조금 더 잘 나오면 기분이 좋지 않겠습니까? 계단 등의 구조물에서 서 있는 사람을 아래쪽에서 올려다보며 찍는 경우, 인물의 키가 커보이게 나오고 건물이 더 웅장하게 나옵니다. 단지 인물사진 뿐만 아니라 건축물 촬영에서도 유용한 기법인데요, 로우앵글에서 구현할 수 있는, 위가 작아보이고 아래가 커보이는 원근감, 왜곡을 이용하는 방법입니다. 건축물 아래에서 카메라(스마트폰)의 위치를 살짝 내려서 살짝 기울여 찍는 것만으로도 꽤 다른 느낌의 사진을 얻을 수가 있습니다. 그리고 전신사진을 찍을때도, 카메라의 위치를 머리(눈) 위치에서 찍게 되면, 찍히는 사람들의 머리 이하 부분보다 높은 위치에서 찍게 되는데, 이와 같이 찍을 경우 머리가 크게 나오고, 다리가 짧게 나오는 사진이 나오게 됩니다. 셀카 찍을때 눈은 크게, 턱은 작게 나오기 위해서 45도 각도로 올려서 찍는데 이를 전신에 도입하게 되면 눈이 아니라 머리가 크게, 턱이 아닌 다리가 짧게 나오게 되는 것이죠. 찍는 사람이 살짝 허리를 숙이고 찍는 것만으로도 피사체들이 조금 더 예쁘게 나올 수 있습니다. (3) 위쪽에서 내려다보며 찍는 구도도 활용해보자! 인물이 쪼그려 앉아 있거나 굳이 키가 커 보이게 할 필요가 없을 때 주로 사용합니다. 인물의 시선은 렌즈를 향하거나 다른 쪽을 보거나 어느 것이든 좋습니다. 조금은 도발적이고, 감상자와 피사체의 거리가 좁혀지는 효과를 가지게 됩니다. (4) 인물을 자르는 방법 사람의 신체를 합법적으로 자를 수 있는 방법은 사진만이 가능한 방법일 것입니다. 사진을 찍다보면 전신만 찍는 것이 아니기 떄문에 신체의 일부만 나오게 찍는 경우가 있는데요. 이 경우에도 관절을 자르게 되면 정말 신체가 뎅겅 잘린 느낌이 납니다. 그래서 주로 관절이 아닌 부위들을 기준으로 자르게 되는데, 가슴 아래(바스트샷), 허리(웨이스트 샷), 무릎 위 정도가 되며 목이라던가 발목 혹은 팔꿈치가 잘리게 되면 살짝 고어한 느낌이 나거나 어색해지니 이 부분을 주의한다면 좀 더 예쁜 사진을 건질 수 있습니다. 5. 덜어내기, 한 걸음 더 다가가기 사진을 찍을 때 꽤 중요한 부분입니다. 사진이라는 것은 내가 찍고자 하는 주 피사체에 내러티브와 메시지를 담는 작업인데, 내 눈에 보이는 모든것을 담겠다는 욕심에 모든 것을 담게 된다면 주제가 무엇인지 모르는, 그냥 기록용 사진으로만 남게 되는 경우가 대부분이죠. 그래서 내가 찍고자 하는 주제가 무엇이고, 그 주제를 빛내주는 부제가 무엇인지를 잘 찾아서 딱 그정도만 찍고 나머지는 프레임 밖으로 덜어내는 것을 한번 생각해본다면 사진이 좀 더 힘을 갖는 이미지를 담게 됩니다. 예컨대 식당에 가서 음식을 먹는다면, 테이블 위에 놓인 모든 것을 찍기 보다는 메인으로 나온 스테이크에 촛점을 두어 스테이크에 가깝게 렌즈를 다가가 사진찍고, 뒤에 나온 샐러드는 부제로 살짝 보이게 찍는다면, 스테이크의 질감을 극대화하여 살리는 방향으로 사진을 찍을 수 있습니다. 사람의 경우도 그 사람과 그 사람 주변의 모든 것을 담기 보다는 그 사람에게 집중해서 조금만 더 다가가서 찍는다면 사진 속 피사체와 감상자의 거리가 한걸음에 가까워져 또 다른 호흡을 느낄 수 있게 됩니다. 딱 한걸음, 한걸음 정도만 더 다가가서 한번 찍어보세요. 6. 마치며 사실 저보다 사진을 잘 찍으시는 분들도 많고, 저도 거의 아는 것이 없지만, 그래도 조금이라도 즐겁게 다들 사진을 찍었으면 해서 몇 자 적어봤습니다. 사진을 처음 시작할떄 '사진'을 취미로 해야지,' 카메라'를 취미로 하지는 말아야지 하고 시작했는데, 그럼에도 불구하고 점점 장비욕심도 생기지만, 가끔 스마트폰이나 오래된 똑딱이로도 환상적인 사진을 찍는 분들을 보면 저도 많이 반성하게 됩니다. 요즘은 스마트폰도 많이 좋아져서, 누구나 손쉽게 좋은 사진을 찍을 수 있게 되기도 했구요. 곧 봄도 다가오는데, 올해에는 좀 더 재미있는 사진을 찍어보는 것이 어떨까요? * 수박이두통에게보린님에 의해서 티타임 게시판으로부터 게시물 복사되었습니다 (2017-02-20 09:12) * 관리사유 : 추천게시판으로 복사합니다.
