친구의 피드에서, 스물 둘에 아보카도 토스트를 개발한 호주 쉬프 Bill Granger가 오십 네 살의 나이에 사망했다는 뉴스를 봤어요. 사십 육 세. 새해가 오고 제 생일이 지나면 사십 칠 세가 되는 사람입니다. 아직도 제게 주어진 삶을 어떻게 잘 살아야 할지 감이 오기는 커녕 갈팡질팡 우왕좌왕 좌충우돌 하면서 허덕이는 마음으로 살아가고 있습니다. 내가 무엇을 이루었나 여태까지 살면서? 하고 그 호주 쉐프의 비보를 읽으며 생각합니다. 아이를 낳고 십 년 간 애지중지 잘 키운 것. 그 분야에 실망했고 떠나고 싶었지만 결국엔 다시 돌아와 학교를 마치고 면허번호를 받고 또 그 직업을 기반으로 어린 아이와 둘이서 해외에 나와 그나마 수월하고 빠르게 정착한 것. 원가족과의 관계에서 얻은 어린 시절의 상처에서 그나마 자유로워진 것. 일본어 영어 프랑스어 같은 언어를 잘 구사하는 것. 새벽에 일어나 짐에 가서 운동하는 루틴을 잘 유지한 것. 비교적 건강한 집밥을 만들어 먹는 생활습관을 유지한 것. 참으로 사소롭고 개인적인 성취들이네요 적어놓고 보니. 강남에 아파트를 사 두었다든가 예전에 산 비트코인으로 엄청난 부를 이루었다든가 예전의 꿈을 이루어 유명 작가가 되었다든가 직업적으로 굉장한 것을 이루었다든가 개인적으로 결혼생활을 잘 유지해서 행복하게 살고 있다든가 이런 것과는 거리가 참 먼, 멀리 멀리 돌아와 겨우 이뤄낸 작은 성취들이네요. 더이상은 욕심이 없지만, 내게 주어진 이 소중한 삶이라는 시간에 대해 좀더 욕심을 내어 볼까 그런 생각이 좀 들어요. 아이에게도 더 좋은 엄마이고 싶고 일적인 면에서도 더 신뢰받는 그리고 스스로 자신감있는 사람이고 싶고 그동안 여력이 없어 들여다 보지 못했던 재테크라는 분야에도 신경을 써 보고 싶고 제가 사랑하는 요리와 사진이라는 분야를 개척해 보고 싶기도 하구요. 적어 놓고 보니 전 아직 욕심이 많은 사람이네요. 멀리 바다 건너 살다 보니, 또 아이하고조차 한국어 보다는 영어로 소통이 더 잘 되는, 모국어를 점점 잃어가는 삶을 살아가다 보니 공허하고 외롭고 가끔 한국어로 쏟아내고 이해받고 또 타인을 이해하며 소통하고 싶어 우연히 발견한 이곳에 가입했는데 참 편안한 기분이 들어요. 언젠가 육아에서 벗어나 자유의 몸이 되면 한국의 바닷가 근처에 가서 심플하되 나 자신에 집중하고 또 아낌 없이 나누는 삶을 살고 싶다는 꿈을 꿉니다. 2023년 마무리 잘 하시고 2024년 잘 맞이하시기 바래요. 2000년에 떠들썩하게 밀레니얼을 이야기하며 두려움 반 희망과 호기심 반으로 그 해를 맞아했던 그 때를 떠올립니다. 믿어지지 않는 숫자에요. 2024. . * Cascade님에 의해서 티타임 게시판으로부터 게시물 복사되었습니다 (2024-01-16 08:33) * 관리사유 : 추천게시판으로 복사합니다.
