나는 임신이 잘될 줄 알았지. 저는 정말로 제가 난임을 겪을 줄 몰랐어요. 그도 그럴 게 저는 생리 시작한 이후로 매달 꼬박꼬박 한 번도 거르지 않고 생리했거든요. 생리불순은 생각보다 여자들한테 흔한 일이고 제 친구들도 6개월에 한 번 생리를 한다든지 3개월간 생리가 없다거나 하는 일이 흔해서 생리통도 그렇게 심하지 않고, 생리도 매달 꼬박꼬박하는 저는 '내 자궁은 건강하다'라는 근거 없는 자신감을 가지게 됩니다. 그래서 저는 피임만 하지 않으면 당연히 금방 임신이 될 줄 알았어요. 그래서 한국 나이 30살에 결혼을 하고 1년간 신혼생활 즐기기 위해서 피임을 하고 32살에 임신 준비를 시작한 저는 자신만만했습니다. 사실 막 젊은 나이는 아니지만 그래도 완전히 늦은 나이는 아니라고 생각했고 피임만 하지 않으면 금방 될 줄 알았어요. 그런데 1년간 임신이 안되더라고요. 배란 테스트기도 사서 해봤는데 무용지물이었습니다. 마음먹으면 꼭 해야만 하고 하고자 계획한 일은 꼭 해냈던 제 인생에서 이렇게까지 안된 건 임신이 처음이었습니다. 점점 매달 하는 생리가 임신에 대한 레드카드로 보이기 시작할 무렵 저는 처음으로 인터넷 검색창에 '난임 병원'을 검색하게 됩니다. 사실 남편은 제가 난임 병원 가자고 했을 때 반대했었습니다. 아이를 가지고 싶긴 하지만 난임 시술이 여자 몸에 많은 무리가 간다며 웬만하면 자연임신으로 시도해보자고 그러더라고요. 하지만 이미 조급할 대로 조급해진 제 마음은 쉽게 사그라지지 않았고, 그래도 한번 우리 둘 중 누가 문제가 있을 수도 있으니까 한번 검사나 받으러 가자고 했어요. 영 내켜 하지 않아 하는 남편 손을 끌고 찾아간 난임 병원에서 저는 난소 나이 검사 나팔관 조영술을 신랑은 정자 운동성 검사를 진행하게 됩니다. 그 검사에서 저는 난소 나이 20살이 나왔습니다. 의사 말로는 거의 난소 나이가 미성년자(;) 수준이라고 그러더라고요. 난소 나이가 많은 거보단 젊은 게 좋은 거니까 기분 좋아하고 있었는데 의사가 난소 나이가 많은 것 보다는 좋은 결과지만 그렇게 좋은 결과는 아니라고 하더군요. 현재 나이에서 플러스마이너스 2 정도가 정상이고, 제 나이보다 10살 어리게 난소 나이가 나왔다면 그동안 무배란 생리를 했을 수도 있다고 하더라구요. 그다음 진행했던 나팔관 조영술에서도 정상. 가끔 나팔관이 막혀서 임신이 안되는 경우도 있다던데 저는 막힌 것 하나 없이 정상이었습니다. 나팔관 조영술은 하기 전에 후기를 찾아봤더니 정말 아프다고 해서 진짜 겁 많이 먹고 갔었는데 엄청 심한 생리통…? 정도의 아픔이었어요. 남편은 정자 운동성 검사에서 정상이 나왔습니다. 일단 두 사람 검사 결과, 둘 다 큰 문제는 없음. 하지만 빠른 임신을 원하니 난임 병원에 다니며 페마라 같은 과배란유도제를 먹으면서 초음파로 지켜보며 배란일을 맞춰서 자연 임신을 한번 시도해 보기로 했습니다. 과배란을 통한 자연 임신 시도는 6개월 정도 진행했습니다. 먼저 생리가 끝나면 난임 병원으로 가서 약을 처방받고 약을 정해진 시간에 먹으면서 2~3일 간격으로 초음파로 난포가 자란 상태를 확인하고 이제 어느 정도 자라 난포가 터져 배란이 되겠다 싶으면, 24시간 이내에 난포가 터지게 하는 주사를 맞습니다. 그러면 그 주사를 맞은 24시간 이내에 남편과 관계하면 됩니다. 하. 근데 이게 진짜 힘들더라고요. 배란 테스트기를 이용해서 자연 임신 시도를 할 때도 느꼈지만, 관계 자체가 `일`이라고 생각하니까 남편도 그렇고 저도 그렇고 힘들더라고요. 분위기를 타서 자연스럽게 해야 하는데 `지금 당장 해야 해!`라고 생각하고 하면 평소에 자연스럽게 흘러가던 분위기나 프로세스(?)도 꼬이는 느낌. 그리고 결과적으로 과배란 약을 통한 자연 임신 시도도 실패했습니다. 6개월 정도 했는데 너무 힘들더라고요. 과업이 되어버린 관계 자체도 힘들긴 했지만, 직장 다니면서 평일에 주기적으로 병원에서 초음파 검사 받는 게 정말 힘들었습니다. 그나마 제 직장이 유연 근무제여서 2시간 늦게 일을 시작할 수 있어서 병행이 그나마 가능했는데 산부인과 대기시간이 진짜 지옥이었어요. 그냥 말로 끝내는 대면 진료가 아니라 초음파도 진행해서 그런지 일반 병원 대기시간의 2배였습니다. 그리고 병원도 집에서 편도로 40분 거리여서 진짜 병원 진료 있는 날은 3시간은 그냥 기본으로 날아갔습니다. 그리고 이렇게 나름 적극적으로 자연 임신을 시도하는데도 생리가 터지면 진짜 너무 괴롭더라고요. 임신 준비한다고 커피도 술도 멀리하다가 생리 터지는 날엔 울면서 맥주를 먹었습니다. 아무튼 이렇게 스트레스가 쌓여가는 차에 도저히 못 하겠다 싶어서 6개월 정도 시도해보고 그만뒀습니다. 그냥 흘러가는 대로 자연임신 한번 다시 시도해보자 하고 난임 병원 다니는걸 그만둡니다. 시험관 시술 1차 과정 그렇게 한동안 난임병원에 다니지 않고 한 10개월간 자연 임신을 시도했습니다. 마음을 내려놓고 자연스럽게 시도해본다고 하긴 했지만, 점점 시간이 지나자 또 초조해지기 시작했고 다시 한번 남편을 설득해서 시험관을 한번 해보기로 합니다. 시험관 비용은 병원마다 다르지만 제가 가는 난임병원은 일단 기본적으로 250만 원 정도 생각하라고 하더라구요. 시험관 시술 과정에서 주사를 계속 처방받는데 주사 처방 받을 때마다 1주일 기준 20만 원 정도 발생하고 난자 채취 후 배아 생성 시 수가 많아서 냉동하면 냉동 배아당 30만 원 정도 발생합니다. 소득에 따라 정부에서 지원해주기도 하지만 저희 부부는 지원 기준에 해당하지 않았어요. 시험관 시술 첫 단계는 난자 채취입니다. 배아를 많이 획득하기 위해 과배란을 유도해 난자를 가능한 한 많이 채취하기 위해 `고날에프펜`이라는 주사를 처방받았습니다. 그리고 매일 정해진 시간에 배에다가 주사를 놓습니다. 배 주사 요령은 배꼽을 기준으로 가능한 혈관이 없는 곳을 잘 찾아서 잘 찔러 넣으면 되는데요. 사실 혈관이 지나가는지 안 지나가는지 눈에 안 보여서 대충 여기쯤이다 싶은 곳에 잘 놓으면 됩니다. 잘못 찔러서 혈관이 지나가는 곳을 찌르면 피와 함께 멍이 생깁니다. 배 주사도 시험관 시술 단계에 따라 다양하게 처방받는데 고날에프펜은 처방받는 주사 중에서 바늘이 제일 얇은 축에 속해서 잘 찌르면 약간 압정에 찔리는 듯한 따끔한 통증 정도였어요. 처방받은 배주사는 고날에프펜 말고도 데캅트렐, 오비드랩, 프로루텍스 주사가있는데 이 주사기들은 고날에프펜보다 주사바늘이 굵어서 상당히 아팠습니다. 배를 두 손가락으로 꽉 꼬집고 비트는 느낌 정도였어요. 시험관 시술 관련된 카페에서 보면 가끔 시험관 시술받는 아내를 나 몰라라 하는 남편들도 좀 있어서 '내가 얼마나 힘든지 느껴봐라' 라는 마음으로 주사를 남편한테 놓아달라고 하는 사람도 있는걸 봤는데요. 제 남편은 나 몰라라 하는 사람은 아니었지만 한번 놓아달라고 하니 주사기를 잡은 손을 벌벌 떨어서 다시는 부탁 하지 않았습니다 ㅋㅋ.. 이렇게 고날에프펜을 주사 맞으면서 병원에 3~5일마다 주기적으로 들려서 난포가 잘 자랐는지 검사를 합니다. 저는 앞에서 이야기 했다시피 다낭성 난소여서 초음파를 볼 때마다 난포의 수가 상당한걸 볼 수 있었습니다. 나중에 난자 채취 직전에는 정말 배 안에 포도가 열린 느낌이었어요; 난포 크기를 보고 이 정도면 잘 성숙한 난포다 싶으면 이제 난자 채취 일자를 잡습니다. 오비드렐 + 데카펩틸이라는 난포 터지는 주사를 시술 전에 받아서 배 주사를 맞고 난자 채취를 하러 갑니다. 난자채취가 저는 시험관 시술 중에 가장 힘들었어요. 보통 시험관 시술한다고 하면 여자 몸 상한다고 많이들 말리는데 난자채취 과정에서 진짜 아, 이게 몸이 상하는구나 하고 느꼈습니다. 난자채취 시술은 마취하고 진행하는데 마취 전에 제 팔다리를 수술대에 결박을 시키더라고요. 이때 너무 놀라고 눈물이 핑 돌았습니다. 시술하기 전에 다양한 후기를 보고 갔는데 결박한다는 이야기를 한 번도 본 적이 없고 제가 살면서 수술을 크게 받은 적도 없어서 수술대에 결박당하는 게 처음이어서 진짜 너무 놀라고 무서웠어요. 제가 눈물 흘리니까 간호사분들이 안전 때문에 하는 거라고 너무 겁먹지 말라고 한숨 푹 자고 일어나면 다 끝나있을 거라고 달래주셨어요. 그렇게 결박된 상태로 있다가 의사가 들어오고 마취한 다음에 눈을 뜨니 회복실이었습니다. 배가 찢어지는 듯한 고통을 느끼며 누워있는데 간호사가 채취된 난자는 39개라고 하더라구요. 생각보다 많이 나와서 아픈데도 기분 좋았습니다. 시술 후 일주일 정도는 진짜 웃는 것도 기침하는 것도 고통이었습니다. 배가 너무너무 당기더라고요. 이게 난자를 채취하기 위해서 뾰족한 바늘로 난포를 찌르는 시술이라 회복 기간이 생각보다 길었어요. 복수 찰 수도 있다고 들어서 이온 음료를 거의 물처럼 마셨습니다. 그렇게 채취한 난자와 남편의 정자로 만든 배아는 총 8개 나왔습니다. 5일 배양 2개 3일 배아 6개 나왔는데 배아 개수도 제가 예상했던 것 보다 많이 나와서 아 그래도 고생한 보람이 있다고 뿌듯해했습니다. 배아가 나오면 이식일을 정합니다. 자궁 상태를 보고 배아를 냉동시키지 않고 바로 이식하는 신선 배아 이식이 있고, 배아를 냉동시키고 난자 채취로 고생한 자궁을 한번 쉬게 해준 다음에 이식하는 냉동 배아 이식이 있습니다. 저는 다른 사람보다 채취한 난자 개수가 많기도 해서 신 선배 아는 이식은 하지 않고 한 달 쉰 다음 냉동 배아 이식으로 넘어가기로 했습니다. 배아 이식은 생리 2, 3일 차에 내원해서 자궁 상태를 확인한 후 유트로게스탄이란 질정과 프롤루텍스라는 주사제를 처방받고 이식일이 잡힐 때까지 질정을 넣고 배 주사를 맞으며 자궁 내벽 두께를 2~3일 간격으로 초음파로 확인합니다. 그리고 이식할 만큼 자궁 내벽이 두꺼워졌다고 판단되면 이식 날을 잡습니다. 이식은 따로 마취는 하지 않고 진행하는데요. 이식하기 한 시간 전에 물을 500mL 마시고 오라고 합니다. 왜 그런가 했더니 방광에 어느 정도 소변이 차야 방광에 자궁이 눌려서 자궁 내벽이 살짝 납작해져 이식하기 좋아서 소변 참고 오라고 하는 거더라고요. 저는 안 그래도 자주 화장실 가는 편인데 소변 참느라 정말 죽는 줄 알았습니다. 이게 이식하고 나서도 한 시간 동안 누워있다가 집으로 가는데, 거의 2시간 정도 소변을 참는 거라 상당히 힘들어요. 후기를 보니 이 소변 참는 게 난자채취 하는 거보다 힘들었다는 분도 있었어요. 그리고 이식하면 5일배아/3일배아 여부에 따라 기간이 살짝 다르긴 하지만 1~2주 정도 기다렸다가 착상이 잘 되었는지 피검사를 진행합니다. 병원에서는 피 검사하는 당일 오전에 임신테스트기를 해보고 오라고 하는데요. 피검하러 가는 그날까지 임테기 해보고 싶은 충동을 참는 게 진짜 힘듭니다. 보통 `임테기 노예` 라고들 하는데, 급하신 분들은 이식 다음 날부터 하시면서 매직아이로 보이나 안보이냐로 사진 올려서 봐달라고 합니다. 저는 미리 스트레스받기 싫어서 꾹 참고 피검사 전날 새벽에 임테기를 했는데, 희미하게 보이는 두 줄을 보고 얼마나 기뻤는지 몰라요. 피검사는 총 2번 진행하는데 첫 번째 검사에서 수치라 100이 넘어야 임신이라고 보고 그리고 두 번째 검사에서 첫 번째 수치의 2배가 넘어야 합니다.저는 피검사 결과를 무난하게 통과하고 4주 차 때 아기집까지 잘 봤습니다. 임신진단서를 발급해주는 시기는 병원마다 다른데요. 제가 다니는 난임병원은 아기집이 보이면 임신진단서를 발급해주더라고요. 이 임신 진단서 발급받고 얼마나 기분이 좋았던지- 적어도 16주 안정기 때 돌입해서 주변에 이야기 해야 한다고 해서 아무한테도 이야기 안 하고 남편이랑 진단서 보고 같이 방방 뛰고 태명은 뭐로 할까 아기방은 어디다 만들까 고민하고 이름은 뭐로 지을까 고민했던 게 아직도 꿈만 같아요. 그리고 5주 차 때 아기집에 있는 아기를 보러 갔는데 이때부터 살짝 불안해지기 시작했습니다. 시험관아기는 아무래도 자연임신보다 정확하게 주 수를 체크할 수 있기 때문에 태아 크기나 난황 크기 심장 소리를 듣고 빠르게 이 아기가 약한가 느린가를 판단하는데요. 5주 차 때는 심장이 반짝반짝 빛나는 걸 빠르면 볼 수 있다고 하는데 제 아기는 보이지 않았습니다. 의사가 고개를 갸웃하면서 심장이 보일 수도 있는데 지금은 판단하기에 좀 이른 거 같다고 다음 주에 보자고 하시는데 그때부터 싸했어요. 6주차때 진료해보니 심장이 반짝반짝 뛰는 걸 확인은 했는데, 의사가 심장이 느리게 뛰는 거 같다고 이 아기가 잘 클 수도 있지만 이대로 심장이 멈출 수도 있다고 확률은 반반이지만 마음의 준비를 하시는 게 좋을 것 같다고 하더군요. 병원 나오는데 얼마나 심장이 쿵쿵 뛰던지. 버스를 타고 직장으로 출근하면서 시험관 카페에 '심장이 느리게' '심장이 느린' '심장이 느려요'라고 검색하는데 하나같이 안 좋은 글 밖에 없더라고요. 가끔가다 보이는 나중에 다시 심장이 정상적으로 뛴다는 글도 작성 글 검색으로 보면 다음 글에 유산되었다는 글이 보여서 제 심장은 바닥으로 쿵 내려앉는 것 같았어요. 거의 일에 집중도 못 하고 퇴근하고 집에 도착하니까 눈물이 펑펑 나더라구요. 내가 포기하면 안 된다 아기는 힘내고 있을 수 있다고 생각하고 안 울려고 하는데 눈물이 멈추지 않았습니다. 그리고 7주 차 때 더 느려진 심장박동을 확인하고 의사가 이제 질정이랑 배 주사 멈추고 다음 주에 아기 심장 멈춘 거 확인하면 소파술 수술 일정 잡자고 하더군요. 그리고 8주 차 때 심장박동이 멈춘 제 첫아기를 확인하고 이튿날 소파술로 아기를 보내주었습니다. 소파술 전날 신랑이랑 같이 아기에게 편지를 써서 불에 태우고 소파술 당일 싸이토텍 질정을 넣고 수술대에 오르는데 그냥 멍…. 했던 것 같습니다. 6주 차 때 마음의 준비를 하라는 말에 흘린 눈물 때문에 제 안의 눈물이 전부 다 말라버린 것 같았어요. 그렇게 저는 시험관 1차를 마무리하게 됩니다. 임신이란 여자한테 뭘까 제가 난임이라 임신으로 온 머릿속이 가득 찼을때라 그런 걸 수도 있긴 한데 요즘 들어 임신이란 여자에게 뭔지에 대한 생각을 자주 합니다. 전에 K사 주말드라마를 엄마랑 같이 보고 있는데 이혼 후 재결합한 여자가 임신하려고 하는데 나이가 많아서 임신이 잘 안되자 시험관 시술하는데 시험관 시술을 위한 배 주사를 냉장고에 넣어놨는데 그 배 주사를 시어머니한테 안 들키려고 전전긍긍하다가 다행히 시어머니한테 안 들키고 넘어간 후에 다리가 풀려서 이럴 줄 알았으면 하루라도 젊은 나이에 결혼해서 임신할 걸 그랬어 하며 엉엉 우는 장면이 있었어요. 그리고 이번에 유튜브를 검색하다가 활동 중지한 여자 아이돌 관련 루머를 썸네일로 접했는데 활동 중지한 이유가 임신 때문이라는 섬네일이 있었어요. 정말 실제로 그런 이유 일수도 있지만(저는 실제로 그럴 가능성이 거의 없다고 생각합니다) 건강상의 이슈로 아파서 쉴 수도 있는 거고 정신적으로 힘들어서 쉴 수도 있는 건데 렉카가 저런 영상을 제작하는 거 자체가 임신이 진짜 사실이든 아니든 나이 어린 여자 아이돌한테 `임신`이라는 이미지를 덮어 씌우는 게 타격이 크다고 생각하니까 그런 거겠죠. 승승장구하는 나이 어린 여자에게 원치 않는 임신이 얼마나 큰 타격인지 아니까 그런 거겠지 라는 생각도 들고요. 참 어렵습니다. 생명이란 그 자체로 정말 축복이지만 원치 않는 사람에게는 정말 재앙과도 같은 일일 수도 있고 원하는 사람에게는 잘 찾아오지 않아요. 그렇다고 무턱대고 나이 들면 힘드니까 나이 어릴 때 무조건 아기를 낳으라고 하기엔 임신과 출산이 남자 여자 모두에게 얼마나 큰 삶의 변화로 찾아오는지 알기에 쉽사리 강요하기 힘들고요. 참 쉽지 않습니다. 끝내며 저는 유산 후 2~3개월은 있다가 준비하는 게 좋다는 의사의 말에 잠시 시간을 가지고 몸조리하면서 다시 아기를 맞을 준비를 하고 있습니다. 시험관 카페도 탈퇴하고 임신 관련된 건 일부러 멀리하고 있어요. 일상 회복에 집중하고 있습니다. 다시 또 시험관을 할지 아니면 자연임신을 시도 할지 모르지만 당분간 남편과 함께 몸조리 마음 조리 잘하려고 합니다. 언젠가 아기를 만날 수 있기를 기도하고 또 기도합니다. 마음 정리 겸 쓰는 글이었는데 과정이랑 그때 느꼈던 감정까지 쓰다 보니 너무 길어졌네요. 긴 글 읽어주셔서 감사합니다. 그리고 제가 시험관 시술 중에 너무 힘들 때 타임라인에 글 남겼었는데, 제가 글 남길 때마다 응원댓글 남겨주셨던 분들 다시 한번 감사해요. * Cascade님에 의해서 티타임 게시판으로부터 게시물 복사되었습니다 (2023-06-05 21:22) * 관리사유 : 추천게시판으로 복사합니다.
