안녕하세요 올해로 본과 3학년인 학생입니다. 이번 겨울에 elective program을 통해서 다른 병원에서 한 달 동안 공부할 기회가 있는데요. 국내에서 편하게 하는 사람들도 많지만 비행기값 지원받는 김에 해외 대학을 가보고 싶네요. 그런데 우선적으로 알아본 미국이나 영국은 영어 조건도 엄청 높고 학교끼리 제휴가 되어있어야 해서 사실상 힘들다고 합니다. 저는 지배적 문화권 영미유럽이 아니더라도, 오히려 평소에 단순 여행으로 가기는 애매한 국가들 하지만 역사문화적으로 대단한 국가들 (이란 등 중동이라든가, 아프리카, 남미 중에 안전한 국가처럼)도 가보고싶은 열망이 있어서 알아보는 중인데 치안이나 생활환경이나 쉽지 않네요. 홍차넷 분들이라면 어느 나라/지역을 가시고 싶으신가요? 그리구 막연한 미래에 대해서, 저는 다양한 문화권에서 살아보고 싶은 마음이 큰데 그래서 공대 친구들 유학가거나 교환학생 가는게 그렇게 부럽더라고요... 나중에 정식 의사가 되면 해외를 체험할 기회가 얼마나 있을까요? 일단은 무엇을 위해 가고 싶은가를 설정하는 것이 우선일 것 같습니다. 영미권 위주로 가게 되는 것도 결국 보다 발달된 의료기술이나 연구동향 등을 체험해 보려고 하는 것(+usmle)도 있긴 한데, 언어적인 면도 크긴 합니다.
기본적으로 언어가 통하질 않으면 가는 의미가 많이 퇴색될 수 밖에요. 자기가 영어를 잘 한다고 해도, 상대방이 잘 하는 것도 보장이 안됩니다. 그런면에서는 홍콩, 싱가폴, 호주 정도가 괜찮은 선택지 같네요.
의사가 되어서 해외를 체험할 기회는 어디서 근무하는가에 크게 달려있는 것 같습니다. 일반적으로 대학 밖이면 어렵겠지요.
