| Subject | 제겐 매우 어려운 과거 지도교수님으로부터 추천서를 받아야 할 것 같아 걱정입니다 |

현재 박사과정을 준비중인 학생입니다. 제목에 썼듯이 박사 지원을 위해 석사때의 지도교수님으로부터 추천서를 받아야 할것 같은데, 졸업을 한 지금까지도 이분이 제게는 매우 어렵고 두려운 분입니다. 석사 졸업논문 쓸때 이분의 지도 방식이 제게는 맞지 않았었는데, 지금 생각해보면 이것이 마치 가스라이팅과 비슷했던것 같습니다. 그래도 다행히 졸업 논문은 완성해서 졸업했습니다. 석사 논문 제출 직전 했던 마지막 면담때 박사과정에 진학하고픈 마음을 교수님께 내비췄는데, 당시 교수님께서는 이러이러한 주제를 하면 좋을 것 같고, 그런 거라면 자기가 지도 할 의향이 있다, 라고 하셨습니다. 그 이후 저는 석사 논문을 제출하고 졸업하였습니다. 그런데 제 석사 논문의 평가는 그다지 좋은 점수가 아니었고 저는 평점 B+로 졸업하였습니다. 제가 봐도 뛰어난 논문은 아닙니다. 지도교수님께서 작성하신 평가서는 혹독했으나 제게 도움이 되었습니다. 현재는 지원하고 싶은 대학이나 연구 프로그램을 알아보고 있는데, 제가 가장 지원하고픈 연구 프로그램의 리드를 맡고 계신 타대학 교수님은 제 석사 지도교수님을 잘 아시는 분입니다. 타 대학 교수님을 편의상 A, 제 과거 지도교수님은 B라고 하겠습니다. A교수님은 이 외에도 대학에 속하지 않은 독립연구소의 연구소장이시기도 한데, 이 연구소에 속한 여러 프로젝트 들 중 한곳에서 현재 B교수님께서 일하고 계십니다. 그러니까 A교수님 아래에 B교수님의 보스가 있고, 그 밑에 B교수님이 있습니다. 앞서 언급한 A교수님께서 운영하시는 연구 프로그램의 담당자와 얼마 전 면담을 했습니다. 이후에 제가 간 크게도 A교수님께 제가 컨택해서 면담을 했습니다. 그때 연구소장님께서 제 석사 지도교수님을 잘 아신다고 반가워하시더라고요. 두분이 직접 아시는 사이인지는 잘 몰랐었는데, 이를 듣고 조금 식은땀이 났네요;;; 일단 면담은 잘 진행했습니다. 첫 면담이니 큰 성과는 없지만 A교수님으로부터 또 연락하라고 말씀하신 것만으로도 기뻤습니다만... 막상 B교수님을 다시 만나 해당 연구프로그램 지원에 필요한 추천서를 써주실 수 있는지를 여쭤볼 생각을 하니 많이 두렵습니다. 이분만 생각하면 제가 한 모든 일이 실수인것만 같은 생각이 들어 힘듭니다. 예를 들어 본인을 거치지 않고 직접 A교수님을 컨택한 것이라던지요. B교수님께서 추천서 써주시는 것을 거부하실 것 같아 걱정도 되고요. 이 경우에는 다른 분들께 추천서를 받아야 지원하는데, 그렇다면 A교수님께서 이상하게 여기실 것 같습니다. 본인이 이미 잘 알고 동시에 제 석사 지도교수인 B교수님에게서 추천서를 받지 않는다면 제가 생각해도 이상합니다;; 현재 B교수님께 면담 요청 메일을 보내놓고 걱정만 하고 있습니다. 후회가 되기도 하나 어디서부터 후회 해야 하는지도 막상 모르겠고.. 추상적인 걱정과 후회뿐입니다. 혹시 제게 해주실 조언이 있다면 부탁드립니다. 감사합니다.
