20대 중반의 모태솔로 남자입니다. 원래는 연애에 관심이 없었습니다. 연애에 적극적이진 않았지만, 좋은 사람 나타나면 그때 사귀자 정도였어요. 후술하겠지만 제 성격이 연애랑 맞지 않았고, 혼자서도 취미생활 즐기며 잘 사는 사람이었거든요. 동아리와 동호회에 느슨하게나마 활동한 덕에 여자 지인은 있었지만 여사친은 별로 없었고, 그나마 사귀고 싶었던 여자들은 철벽을 쳤거나 이런저런 사정으로 되질 않았습니다. 그런데 작년부터인가, 갑자기 연애에 대한 욕망이 생겨나기 시작했습니다. 잘만 연애하는 커플들 보면 부러웠고, (좀 부끄럽지만) 성욕 문제도 있고, 혼자만의 세계를 잘만 구축했으니 다른 사람이랑도 어울려보고 싶습니다. 그래서 여러 노력을 했습니다. 신체적 매력을 높이려고 다이어트를 했고, 패션과 헤어스타일도 만들었고, 사회성을 늘리려 친구나 지인들과 약속을 더 자주 만나고 있고, 소개팅도 부탁하는 중이고, 공감대 형성을 위해 평소에 관심없던 영화나 가요에도 관심을 들이려 해요. 사실, 제가 객관적으로 매력없는 인간이라고는 생각하지는 않습니다. 키가 중간 이상은 되고, 어깨도 넓고, 외모도 못생겼다 할 정도는 아니고, 학벌도 괜찮고 지적인 면에 강점은 있고, 고급스럽게 여겨지는 취미를 가진 사람이라고 자부합니다. 하지만 그럼에도 불구하고 연애를 못하게 만든 성격들이 있습니다. 제가 매력있는 인간일지는 몰라도, 연애상대로서 매력있는 인간은 아니게 만드는 성격들이거든요. 또 노력한다고 얼마나 고칠 수 있을까 싶습니다. 1. 부족한 사회성 찐아싸로써, 사람들이랑 별로 만나지 못했습니다. 보통 아싸 운운은 대학생부터인데 저는 초중고 시절에도 친구가 진짜 없었습니다. 지금은 많이 나아졌지만, 작년까지만 해도 술자리가 한 달에 한 번이면 많은 것이었어요. 그리고 있던 인간관계는 수도 매우 적었고 관계가 얇았습니다. 학창시절 반이나 취미를 위해 가입한 동아리, 동호회에서도 늘 겉돌았습니다. 다른 친구들은 자학드립과 욕을 포함해 웃으면서 잘만 대화하는데, 저와 어울렸던 친구들은 서로 엄근진하게 대화를 나누는 수준이었고, 그 이상을 벗어나기 진짜 힘들었습니다. 걔들을 보면서 어떻게 저런 단계까지 올라가지...? 하면서 부러워하기 일쑤였죠. 연애는 굉장히 깊은 인간관계인데, 친구도 제대로 못 만드는 사람이 연애를 할 수 있을지 걱정됩니다. 2. 극한의 진지함 3과도 연결되는 건데, 저는 오랜시간 혼자 취미를 즐기거나 생각하는 시간이 많았고, 흔한 스몰토크 소재인 게임, 연예나 스포츠 등에는 진짜 관심이 없었습니다. 그 결과 일상은 없고, 매사에 진지한 주제만 머리속에 꽉 차있는 노잼인간이 되어버렸지요. 심지어 스몰토크조차 진지빨고 접근하는 사람이 되어버렸습니다. 매사에 무거운 인간이랑 연애를 하는 건 쉽지 않을 겁니다. 제대로 꽁냥꽁냥거릴 수 있을지도 모르겠고요. 3. 학술덕후 성향 제 취미나 관심사는 지적이고 어려운 게 많습니다. 클래식 음악, 논픽션 독서, 국제지리 및 국제정치 등등... 대학원 진학할 사람이라 이런식의 관심사를 밥벌이의 레벨로 승화시켜야 하는 상황이기도 합니다. 더럽게 진지한데 학술덕후 성격까지 더해지니, 매일 입만 열면 딱딱하고 지겹게 느껴지기 쉽습니다. 제 성격 상 매사는 무리더라도 주기적으로는 학술적인 주제로 애인과 이야기를 하고 싶은데, 해당분야를 알지 못하더라도 최소한 지겨워하지 않을 애인을 찾을 수 있을지 자신이 없습니다. 이런 성격의 사람이 연애를 할 수 있을까요? 가능하다면 어떻게 노력해야 할까요? 전 그동안 연애를 안 해도 잘만 살아왔지만, 위 이유로 연애를 앞으로도 못한다면 '내 인간성의 문제는 연애 못해봄에서 드러난다'면서 한으로 남을 것 같습니다. 그래서 좀 걱정돼요.
