브레이크를 완전히 잘 부숴놨고 그걸 또 시동 걸자마자 못 알아채서 일단 기어를 넣고 움직이기 시작한 경우를 가정하더라도, 브레이크가 고장났다는 사실은 대체로 출발과 거의 동시(즉 저속일 때)에 알아챌 수밖에 없습니다. 브레이크를 한번도 건드리지 않고 주차장에서 도로까지 나갈 수 있는 환경 자체가 매우 희귀하니까요(후진으로 빼야 하는 환경이면 빼고 전진기어로 바꾸려고 할 때 벌써 알아챌 수밖에 없습니다). 저속에서 알아차렸다면 그냥 중립만 넣어도 조금 굴러가다 멈추고, 더 빨리 멈추려면 중립 넣고 차에서 내려서 힘으로 밀어서 세우거나 오토차는 그냥 파킹 때려넣어서 세울 수 있습니다.
설사 도로로 나가서 어느 정도 속도를 낸 뒤 알아차렸다 치더라도, 기어를 최대한 1단에 가깝게 계속 변속하면 속도가 계속 줄어들기 때문에(오르막이나 평지는 물론이고 어지간한 내리막도 그렇습니다), 시간이 좀 걸린다 뿐이지 최종적으로는 같은 방식으로 세울 수 있습니다. 아주 급격한 내리막 경사라면 속도가 줄어들지 않고 소폭 증가하다가 멈춰서 유지될 수도 있기는 한데, 최대한 1단에 가까운 기어를 넣고 있음에도 끝도 없이 속도가 계속 올라간다면 그건 벌써 차가 다니는 길이 아닙니다.
물론 차를 세울 수 있는 속도에 도달하기 전에 위험지대가 나온다면 사고로 이어질 수는 있지만(예컨대 급경사 내리막 후 바로 직각 코너가 나오고 도로 한쪽은 절벽), 차는 일부러 어디 들이박는 방법으로 세울 수도 있기 때문에 역시 사망급 사고가 나기 어렵습니다. 간신히 1단까지 내려가긴 했는데 도저히 위험지대 도달 전까지 세울 수가 없어서 어디다 들이박는 경우를 생각해 보면, 이건 달리 말하면 미리 마음의 준비를 하고 내는 50km/h에서의 사고이고, 이런 속도의 사고에서 가장 흔한 결과는 운전자 자신이 돈 내는 경우 전치 0주, 남이 돈 내는 경우 2-4주입니다.
사망 가능성이 높은 사고로 이어지는 것도 완전히 불가능하진 않지만, 1. 브레이크를 부분적 기능저하가 아닌 완전 고장상태로 만들었고, 2. 시동 즉시 알아채는데 실패하고, 3. 주차장에서 도로까지 노브레이크로 갈 수 있는 환경이라 그 뒤로도 못 알아채고, 4. 도로까지 나간 뒤에도 못 알아채고 어느 정도 속도를 올렸는데, 5. 사거리 빨간불을 발견한 후 처음으로 브레이크를 밟아보자 고장이었고, 6. 당황해서 어디 박아서 세우지도 못하고 그대로 사거리에 들어갔는데, 7. 진입타이밍이 절묘해서 그 때 정상속도 또는 과속으로 오던 덤프트럭 기타 큰 차가 거의 제동없이 그대로 박아버리는 경우 같은 조건이 충족되어야 하고, 선결조건이 많다보니 쉽지 않지요.
게다가 선 하나 자르는 것만으로는 브레이크 제동력을 완전히 상실시키기 어렵습니다. 일반적으로 브레이크가 완전히 작동하지 않도록 만들기 위해서는 3개를 잘라야 하고(브레이크만 하더라도 보통 2개를 잘라야 하고, 사이드도 있기 때문), 차에 따라서는 그 이상을 잘라야 할 수도 있습니다. 추가로 오토차는 크리핑 속도에서 그냥 파킹기어를 때려 넣는 방식으로 멈춰버릴 수도 있는데, 이거는 외부에서 부수기가 사실상 불가능합니다. 결국 잘 모르는 사람이 아무거나 하나 자르는 것만으로는 완전한 작동불능 상태를 만들기가 어렵습니다.
브레이크를 완전히 잘 부숴놨고 그걸 또 시동 걸자마자 못 알아채서 일단 기어를 넣고 움직이기 시작한 경우를 가정하더라도, 브레이크가 고장났다는 사실은 대체로 출발과 거의 동시(즉 저속일 때)에 알아챌 수밖에 없습니다. 브레이크를 한번도 건드리지 않고 주차장에서 도로까지 나갈 수 있는 환경 자체가 매우 희귀하니까요(후진으로 빼야 하는 환경이면 빼고 전진기어로 바꾸려고 할 때 벌써 알아챌 수밖에 없습니다). 저속에서 알아차렸다면 그냥 중립만 넣어도 조금 굴러가다 멈추고, 더 빨리 멈추려면 중립 넣고 차에서 내려서 힘으로 밀어서 세우거나 오토차는 그냥 파킹 때려넣어서 세울 수 있습니다.
