https://news.kbs.co.kr/news/view.do?ncd=5526909 2017년 한국 사회에 장애인 문제를 생각하게 하는 장면이 있었다. 서울 강서구 가양동에 들어설 특수학교 건립을 둘러싼 갈등이었다. 지적장애 아이를 둔 학부모들은 자녀들이 다닐 수 있는 특수학교를 설립하게 해 달라고 요구했고, 지역주민들은 특수학교는 혐오시설이라면서 거세게 반대했다. 하지만 갈등은 좁혀지지 않았다. 2차례에 걸쳐 열린 공청회에서 장애 학생의 학부모들은 무릎을 꿇고 눈물까지 흘리면 호소했다. 무릎 꿇은 장면이 SNS와 언론 보도를 통해 알려졌고 논란은 커졌다. .... 그로부터 5년, 선진국 대열에 들어섰다는 대한민국에서 장애인 문제에 대한 비장애인들의 인식은 과연 나아졌을까? 드라마에서 발달장애인이 직접 배우로 등장하고 자폐 장애인이 비장애인보다 유능한 변호사로 등장하면서 큰 인기를 끌고 있다. 그 인기만큼 장애인시설에 대한 편견과 차별도 사라진 것일까? 5년전 그때 무릎 꿇고 호소했던 부모들은 지금 어떤 생각을 할까? 당시 장애학생 학부모들을 대표해 특수학교 설립을 호소했던 이은자씨를 만나봤다. .... 당신 아이가 갈 학교도 아닌데 왜 그렇게 어머님들이 애를 쓰냐고 하시는데 발달장애인 부모들은 사실 이게 내 일 네 일이라는 개념이 없어요. 저희 아이는 성인이지만 학년기에 학교 갈 친구들의 학교가 없으면 다 같이 애를 써야 하는 거고, 또 성인 아이들한테 어떤 문제가 생기면 학년기 엄마들도 다 같이 애를 쓰죠. 그런데 학교가 다 만들어지고 교장 선생님이 학교견학을 해주셨는데 너무 예쁜 거예요. 그때 처음으로 그런 생각을 했어요. 지현이(딸)가 서진학교에 다녔으면 참 좋아했겠다. 여기 다니는 친구들은 참 좋겠다. 그런 생각이 들었어요. .... 저희 딸 이름이 안지현이거든요. 드라마 <이상한 변호사 우영우>에서 우영우의 삶과 진짜 우리 딸의 삶은 다르지 않다고 생각해요. 왜냐면 우영우가 자주적인 삶을 살 수 있는 것은 우영우 혼자의 능력이나 노력이 아니에요. 주위 사람들이 우영우랑 호흡을 맞춰주고 같이 살아가는 거잖아요. 저희 딸 안지현은 우영우에 비하면 정말 인지연령이 한 2살 정도밖에 안 돼요. “네. 아니요.” 아니면 “엄마, 밥 주세요.” 이 정도밖에 안 하거든요. 하지만 저희 딸도 똑같이 직장에 다니고 똑같이 사람들이랑 같이 살고 있고 친구들이 있고 딸을 도와주는 사람들이 있어요. 그러니까 우영우는 어떤 한 면이 특출나서 변호사를 하는 거고, 저희 딸은 특출한 면은 없지만 그래도 사람들이랑 같이 서로 의존하면서 살아가고 있는 거예요. 인터뷰 전문을 읽어보시길 권합니다. 연대하고 배려하는 이들이 더 많이 웃게 되길 바라요.
