http://www.sedaily.com/NewsView/1OEP0LYGNO 미국 교도소에서 드론으로 금지 물품을 반입하는 사례가 크게 늘고 있어 교정 당국이 골머리를 앓고 있다. 17일(현지시간) 폭스뉴스 등에 따르면 워싱턴주는 교정시설 주변 1,000피트(약 305m)에서 허가 없이 드론을 사용하면 중범죄로 다루는 내용의 법안을 상정해 논의 중이다. 앞서 미시간주는 교도소 주변 1,000피트 내에서 드론을 사용해 교도소 내로 밀수품 반입을 시도하는 행위를 중범죄로 처벌하는 법안을 도입한 바 있다. 드론으로 몰래 반입되는 물품은 담배에서부터 포르노, DVD, 마약, 총기류까지 다양하다. 과거에는 교도관을 매수하거나 면회자를 통해 금지 물품이 반입되었다면 이제는 외부 조력자에 비용을 지불하고 드론으로 물품을 전달받는 방식을 활용하고 있는 셈이다. 미시간 주에서는 지난해 3월 찰스 이겔러 교정시설 위를 맴돌던 소형 드론이 추락했다. 크기가 작은 이 드론은 조사 결과 교도소 보안 상황을 탐지하기 위한 것으로 밝혀졌다. 드론을 활용한 교도소 내 밀수품 반입 문제는 미국에만 국한된 것은 아니다. 영국과 캐나다, 브라질, 러시아, 호주, 태국, 그리스 등에서도 골치 아픈 문제로 부상했다. 이에 교정 당국은 드론 감시를 위해 인력과 예산을 집중하고 최첨단 장비를 동원하고 있다. 사우스캐롤라이나주는 드론 감시를 위해 전망 탑을 세우고 드론 감시 장비로 드론 진입을 확인하고 있다. 뉴욕주 서퍽 카운티 교도소는 독일계 업체 디드론과 협력해 적외선 영상 촬영 및 라디오 주파수 스캔을 통해 드론 조종 신호를 탐지하고 있다.
