 https://news.v.daum.net/v/20191128000620595 영화에도 손을 뻗어 2016년 이래 꾸준히 극장 개봉 편수를 늘려왔고 올해 미국에선 30편 가량 풀었다. 오리지널 콘텐트를 극장에 푸는 게 구독 회원의 독점적 부가가치를 훼손한다는 내부 우려도 계속됐다. 그럼에도 넷플릭스가 홀드백을 조금씩 늘려 가며 극장 개봉에 나서는 것은 ‘우수 콘텐트’ 확보 차원이라는 분석이 지배적이다. 넷플릭스 코리아 홍보 관계자도 “스토리텔러가 없으면 서비스가 유지될 수 없는 것 아니냐”면서 “극장 개봉을 원하는 감독들이 있기 때문에 최대한 이를 맞춰주려 한다”고 설명했다. 극장 개봉이 우수 창작자 유치 전략의 일부란 얘기다. 넷플릭스가 옛날에는 넷플릭스 영화를 영화관에 풀때 영화관의 극장 개봉 시점과 넷플릭스 공개 시점 사이 홀드백(*hold back, 본 상영에 이어 다른 플랫폼으로 옮기는 기간)을 두지 않는 등 영화관과 많은 반목을 가졌었는데요, 디즈니플러스 등등 많은 업체들이 ott시장에 뛰어들다보니 넷플릭스도 홀드백 기간을 길게 두는 등 영화관과의 상생을 슬슬 생각하고 있습니다. 또 넷플릭스는 아시아 및 국내 업계와의 협력을 통해서 오리지널 컨텐츠를 여럿 만들고 있습니다. 이쪽 ott 시장이 아주 글로벌하게 박터지게 싸우고 있네요.
