원제목 : GEMINI WING 제작사 : TECMO 제작년도 : 1987년  배경음악이 좋은 아케이드 게임을 보다보니 제미니윙을 빼놓을 수가 없군요. 테크모가 의외로 명작게임을 많이 제작한 회사입니다. 봄잭같은 자타공인 레전드급 명작게임도 있고, 테크모 월드컵98 같은 대중친화적인 스포츠게임도 있고, 솔로몬의 열쇠같은 명작 퍼즐게임도 있고, 콘솔게임계에서는 캡틴 츠바사 시리즈나 령시리즈, 카게로 시리즈같은 개성있는 게임들을 제작했고, 무엇보다 데드오어얼라이브라는 희대의 명작격투게임을 만들었죠. 여담입니다만, 데드오어얼라이브가 바스트모핑만 있는 삼류 격투게임은 절대 아닙니다. 버튼연타만으로도 어느정도의 연계기가 성립되어 초보자들도 쉽게 게임할수 있고, 쉬운 연계기를 흘리기로 회피하거나 반격기로 반격하면서 빈틈을 공략하는 기본시스템은 초보자나 중급자 모두를 만족시킬만한 괜찮은 시스템이라고 하겠습니다마는, 우리가 데드오어얼라이브를 하는 이유가 그런건 아니죠.  하지만, 우리가 기억하는 테크모는 괴기스러움, 그로테스크한 게임 만드는 회사로 기억되곤 합니다. 꿈도 희망도 없는 배경에 난이도는 극악인 아르고스의 전사, 컨티뉴 화면 하나만으로 전국 국딩들에게 강렬한 인상을 심어준 닌자가이덴, 그리고 본격 곤충, 아메바 파괴 슈팅게임인 본작 제미니윙이 그로테스크한 인상을 강하게 심어주었습니다. 이런거 말이죠... 쓸데없이 서론이 길었습니다. 이러다 토요특선유머마냥 서론으로 먹고 들어가는거 아닌가 싶기도 합니다. 제미니윙 플레이 영상 한번 보시죠. 당시 파릇파릇한 동체시력과 집중력을 가지고 있었던 국딩인 저도 결국 마지막 파리왕을 못깬 난이도 있는 슈팅게임입니다. 배경스토리는... 수천의 유성이 지상으로 떨어진 수년 이후 세계는 변이한 곤충들로 뒤덮히게 되었다. 사람들은 고립되어 도시가 파괴되고 식물은 줄어들어갔다. 벌레들은 한층 더 기세를 더해 남겨진 인류의 대지마저 침식해 나갔다. 그리고 마침내 최고기밀지령 제307호 제미니 윙이 발동되었다! 인류의 생존을 위해 돌연변이한 곤충들이 지배한 대지를 되찾아라! 라고 합니다마는... 슈팅게임에 배경스토리는 중요한게 아니죠. 존 로메로였나 존 카맥이었나 아리까리한데, 액션게임에 있어서 스토리는 포르노의 스토리와 같은 거라고 했다죠. 기본무기에 특정 적을 죽이거나 아이템을 가지고 등장하는 적을 죽이면 파워아이템을 얻는데 그 아이템을 기체 뒤에 매달고 다니면서 아이템을 쓸때마다 하나씩 없어집니다. 심지어 1p 보너스 아이템도 매달고 다니다 써야 합니다. 과거 슈팅게임답게 스치면 죽는 피폭판정에다 파워아이템을 기체 뒤에 주렁주렁 매달고 다니는 시스템이라 2인용 게임하면서 총알 피하다 옆친구 아이템 본의아니게 훔치게 되고 이새끼, 저새끼 하다가 주먹이 왔다갔다하기도 하는 우정파괴형 현피유도게임이기도 합니다. 특히 불기둥이나 스피드업같은 아이템 채가면 좋은 소리 안나오고, 혹여 1p 보너스 아이템이라도 채간다 싶으면 그거는 친구 하지 말자는 얘기죠. 레벨디자인이 잘 되어있으면서, 총알피하는 재미도 있고, 상황별로 적절하게 아이템 쓰는 재미도 있는 슈팅게임이고, 뭔가 음침하고 그로테스크한게 제 취향입니다. 무엇보다도 배경음악이 압권인데요, 8비트로 어떻게 이런 소리를 낼 수 있는지 그저 신기할 따름입니다. 4스테이지 배경음악은 꿈에서도 나올 정도로 좋아했습니다. (위 동영상에서 8분 30초경부터 시작됩니다.) 그래픽 역시 87년 기준으로 볼때 거의 최상급이라고 생각합니다. 특별한 클리어 비법같은건 없고 그냥 동체시력과 상황판단만으로 클리어 가능하지만 마지막 보스는 모르면 못깨도 알아도 어렵습니다. 23분 20초경 등장하는 똥파리? 잠자리?같은 넘이 끝판왕인데요, 날개를 쫙 펼칠때 보이는 꼬리부분의 파란색 부분을 맞춰야 합니다. 날개가 접혀있으면 무적상태입니다. 일반총알로는 안되고 파워아이템을 먹고 아이템을 제때 사용해야 하는데, 어렵습니다. 저 동영상에서도 끝판왕 잡는데 거의 9분 가까이 걸리네요. 진짜 끝판왕답습니다. 끝판왕 깨면 뭐라뭐라 일본어자막이 올라가는데 대충 세계를 뒤덮은 곤충은 사라지고 세계에 평화가 왔다..뭐 그런거겠죠. 그리고 간단한 스틸컷 나오고 스탭롤 올라가고 끝입니다. 국6, 중1즈음때 일요일 아침에 학원 간다고 나가서 꼭 한판씩 하던 게임이었습니다. 그래서 그런지 아직도 1스테이지 음악 들으면 일요일 아침의 나른하고 편안한 분위기가 생각납니다. 그림화일은 엔하위키, 구글에서 검색하였고 동영상은 유튜브에서 검색하였습니다.
