  2019년 CJ는 노났습니다. 극한직업을 시작으로 사바하/걸캅스 대충 손익분기쯤 오고 기생충은 깐느에 천만. 이 정도면 올 상반기를 꽉 쥐고 있었던 셈인데 거기에 하나가 더 추가될 듯 합니다. 개봉 6일차에 휴가철 버프를 받아 달리고 있는 <엑시트>가 있거든요. 근데 잠깐 여기서 스크롤을 잠깐 올려서 포스터를 봐 볼까요? 영화를 보기 전에는 그냥 쌈마이하네라는 생각이 들었는데 보고 나오니 포스터가 관객 100만명은 내보냈다라는 게 마냥 틀린 말은 아닌 듯 싶어 보입니다. 이 영화, 포스터에서 강하게 느껴지는 쌈마이 분위기와는 1도 관련이 없습니다. 유머는 좀 있지만 그것뿐 그냥 무작정 달리고 뛰고 오르고 하는 재난영화입니다. 설정도 심플합니다. 대한민국 가상의 시 한복판에서 화학물질을 이용한 테러가 일어난다. 스토리는 더 단순합니다. 주인공은 차였던 연인을 만나고 그 연인과 산악회/클라이밍을 했던 전적이 있습니다. 이를 통해 개연성을 부여한 스토리가 완성됩니다. 그 뒤로는 오로지 뛰고 달리고 오릅니다. 관객이 숨을 쉴 타이밍도 주지 않으면서 끝까지 달립니다. 감독이 여러 장치를 요소요소에 배치해 뒀지만 그것뿐, 어차피 알던 모르던 영화 감상에는 어떠한 지장도 없습니다. 감독은 이 [상업 영화]를 성공시키기 위해 몇 가지 수를 씁니다. 1. 피해자는 최대한 화면에서 배제할 것. 수천~수만명이 사망했을 지도 모르는 사태에서 희생자들은 어디에도 없습니다. 감독은 더 많은 사람들이 이 영화를 볼 수 있도록 의도적으로 그렇게 연출했다고 합니다. 영리하네요. 개인적으로는 좀비 영화나 바이러스, 또는 자연재해에서는 택하기 힘든 길이지만 이건 국지성 테러니까요. 뭐 이해는 됩니다. 감독 입장에서 손님 많이 들면 좋죠 2. 기존의 영화들에서 비판받던 지점 생략 우리나라 영화 하면 떠오르는 거 뭡니까. 벌써 막 엔딩 장면에서 다같이 울고 불고 짜고 그것도 모자라서 이절에 삼절에 뇌절까지. 엑시트는 그냥 그런 감성 극혐! 하는 사람들의 생각을 잘 읽었습니다. 신파 때문에 못 보겠다 하는 장면이 없어요. 신파로 흘러갈 법 하면 커트해주고, 갈 것 같으면 영화 끝내주고. 심지어 마지막에 해피엔딩으로 여러 요소(취재진이라던지... 기업대표의 취직 제안이라던지...)의 등장 없이 그냥 여운을 줄 때쯤 딱 끝맺어줍니다. 한국식 오락 영화의 마지막 맛이 이렇게 깔끔할 줄이야. 부산행에서, 신과함께... 후... 걔네들과는 감독의 마인드가 아예 다릅니다. 국가의 재난시스템도 자기 역할을 합니다. 거기에다가 민폐 캐릭터가 되는가 싶던 가족들도 어느 정도 영화 진행된 후에는 배제하고 조정석과 윤아의 달리기에 집중합니다. 옳은 선택이에요. 3. 영화가 빠르다 103분. 일단 러닝타임부터 그리 길지 않습니다. 질질 안 끌고 미국 할리우드 재난영화 러닝타임과 비슷하게 맞췄습니다. 부산행이나 해운대가 2시간 넘겼다는 걸 생각하면... 확실히 대세를 좀 더 탄 것 같습니다. 그러니 질질 끄는 장면을 넣을 수가 없습니다. 마치 누가 감독 옆에서 5분만... 5분만.. 이러면서 줄이라고 강요한 것만큼이나마 빨라요. 영화만 빠른 게 아니라 액션도 빠릅니다. 윤아는 음... 스턴트를 거의 안 쓰고 본인이 직접 연기했다는데... 스턴트 좀 많이 썼으면 좋았을 텐데 아쉬운 장면이 좀 있긴 합니다만.. 뭐 윤아잖아요. 조정석은 근육질은 아니여도 충분히 괜찮았습니다. 4. 묘하게 현실적 2012나 부산행, 뭐 판도라...감기... 뭐 솔직히 저런 일이 일어날 가능성도 거의 없어 보이고 일어난다고 해도 뭐 내가 저렇게 못하는데 어쩔? 이런 생각이 든다면 엑시트는 화학물질 테러라는 소재를 통해 야 이거 진짜 일어날 수도 있는 거 아니야? 라는 현실적인 지점에 한 발 걸쳐 있습니다. 조정석이 오르는 건물은 실제 없는 초고층빌딩이 아니라 전국 어디에나 있을 것 같은 외벽의 예식장이죠. 네온사인, 카메라 플래시... 다 우리나라 사람들이라면 실제로 할 법한 행동입니다. 지하철에 흔히 존재하는 방독면, 무심코 지나치지만 영화 내에서 이걸 보여줌으로서 이게 마냥 현실과 동떨어지지 않은 척을 합니다. 그러다보니 영화가 모든 건물 지붕과 지붕이 이어졌다던지.. 사망자가 전혀 안 보인다던지 하는 오류에도 불구하고 묘하게 현실적으로 느껴집니다. 그러니까 긴장이 더 되요. 부산행같이 좀비가 오는 건 그냥 <현실에 저딴건 존재하지 않아!> 하면 되는데 말이죠 이렇게 상업 영화의 공식을 잘 지켜나가면서도 여러 변칙수를 둔 감독은 이게 장편 데뷔작인 43살의 감독입니다. 그렇다고 마냥 상업 영화의 틀에서만 있었던 건 아니고 여러 장치와 은유를 통해 지금 20대~30대가 부딪힌 시대를 보여주고 있었던 점도 군데군데 보입니다. 그래서 평론가 쪽에서도 조금 더 호평이 나오는 것 같구요. 이런 점은 제가 잘 몰라서욯 ㅎㅎㅎ 이 영화를 제가 개봉일 첫 날 보고 와서 이런 글을 썼다면 여기에, 이 영화 100% 뜹니다. 라고 적었을 텐데 이미 떠버렸네요 ㅋ 여튼 영화 재미있습니다. 웃기다기보다는 재미있어요. 윤아+조정석 주연이 진짜 불안불안했는데 응답하라 시리즈처럼 윤아와 조정석 캐릭터는 사실상 각본을 배우에 맞춰준 듯한 느낌이었네요. 윤아도 이 영화로 주연 데뷔를 한 건 괜찮은 선택이었고 조정석도, 캐릭터 변화는 두드러지지 않았지만 그래도 흥행력 있는 배우라는 걸 한 번 더 검증해서 나쁠 건 없겠지요. 이 여름에 영화관 가서 가장 무난하게 볼 만한 영화인 것 같습니다.
