작년 레드삭스의 우승 직후 저는 https://new.redtea.kr/?b=3&n=8437 이 글에서 보스턴의 미래를 예시를 든 적이 있었습니다. 잠시 지금 어떻게 됐는지 함 볼까요. 피어스는 놀랍게도 1년 6.25mil에 남았습니다. 하지만 이오발디가 4년 48은 개뿔... 4년 68로 재계약했네요. 그리고 켈리는 놓쳤습니다. 지금 보니 제가 틀리게 쓴 부분이 하나 있는데 누네즈는 올해가 선수옵션이라 당연히 행사를 하고 남았었습니다... 그래서 보스턴은 시즌 시작하자마자 페이롤이 $225.5mil에 달한 상태입니다. 외부영입 같은 건 꿈에도 꿀 수 없고, 아마 JBJ가 성적이 괜찮다면 트레이드를 시도해 볼 것입니다. 시즌은 아직 한참 길고 무슨 일이 벌어질지 알 수는 없으니 일단 이번 시즌은 그대로 가는 걸로 봐야하지 싶습니다. 확실한 건 하나라도 삐걱거리면 보스턴은 그걸로 시즌 끝입니다. 시즌이 시작되고 보스턴은 중요한 무브를 2개 두었습니다. 바로 세일과 보가츠를 연장계약한 것인데요. 이렇게 해서 보스턴의 주력 선수들 중 연장계약을 해야 할 선수는 베츠 하나 남았습니다. 세일은 대충 5년 145mil 정도에 연장계약이 되었고, 보거츠는 6년 120mil입니다. 금액만 놓고 보면 대단히 합리적으로 보이죠. 하지만 저는 별로 그렇게 생각하지 않습니다. 이건 보스턴의 연봉구조를 봐야 할 수 있는 말입니다. 2019년 시즌 종료 후 보스턴의 페이롤 구조는 이렇게 됩니다(출처는 베이스볼 레퍼런스). David Price 32mil(~2022) Chris Sale 30mil(~2024, 2025년 Vesting Option) JD Martinez 23.75mil(~2022, 2020부터 매년 Optout 가능) Xander Bogaerts 20mil(~2025, 2022 Optout 가능) Nathan Eovaldi 17mil(~2022) Dustin Pedroia 13mil(~2021) Christian Vazquez 4.2mil(~2022) - 7명 확정 140mil + Sandoval의 마지막 5mil = 145mil 확정. Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr., Steven Wright Arb3(마지막 연봉조정) Eduardo Rodrigez, Matt Barnes Arb2 Andrew Benintendi, Blake Swihart Arb1 =후술 기타(연봉조정이라도 액수가 1.5mil 이내로 그칠거 같거나 루키스케일 적용받는 선수) - Hambree, Workman, Devers, Brasier, B.Johnson, H.Velazquez, M.Hernandez 등등 = 잘 쳐줘서 10mil FA : Rick Porcello, Mitch Moreland, Eduardo Nunez, Steve Pierce, Brock Holt, Tyler Thornburg(3선발, 1루수, 유틸리티 보강 필요) 저기에서 확정된 금액은 얼추 155mil 정도입니다. JBJ가 대충 푸이그랑 비슷하게 보고 천만불, 라이트는 금지약물이 걸렸으니 1.5mil이라 가정합시다. 뭐 둘다 트레이드된다 쳐도, E로드나 반즈에게 합쳐서 천만, 베닌텐디 스와이하트 합쳐서 7~800하면 베츠를 빼고 185mil이 됩니다. 이걸 보고 바로 베츠 잡기 힘들겠다...는 생각이 바로 들어야죠. 사치세 라인이 2020년에도 210mil 안 되는데. 베츠 3천에 10년때리면 2025년까지 확정적으로 계속 180~150mil이 잡히는데 그 순간 볼티모어 꼴 나는 겁니다. 연봉구조를 보시면 알겠지만 보스턴은 2022년까지는 그야말로 꽉 막혀있고 2024~5년 가야 저 확정 페이롤들이 전부 다 빠집니다. 당장 큰 돈 빠질 일이 없어요. 들어갈 구멍은 많지. 스카우팅을 몇 년이고 꼴아박으면 이렇게 되는 겁니다. 지금쯤 레디되어서 뛰어야 할 선발유망주나 거포유망주가 한 둘 있었어야 이게 풀리는건데 이게 전혀 없어요. 그나마 다버스에 채비스 해서 3루자원이라도 있는걸 감사하게 생각해야죠. 제가 그래서 베츠를 '먼저' 잡고 최악의 경우 세일, 보가츠를 다 포기하거나 세일을 포기한다는 생각을 했던 겁니다. 지금 한 계약은 완전히 서순인 거죠. 보시면 세일 보거츠 다 그나마 할 수 있는 최선의 계약으로 잡았는데도 저렇습니다. 완전히 유동성이라고는 찾아볼 수가 없는 동맥경화입니다. JBJ 팔아봐야 천만 아끼는데 그래도 사치세라인 코앞이에요. 저기에 프라이스라도 누워버리면 그냥 막장되는거죠. 주력 고액계약자들 나이들도 다 30 넘었는데 충분히 가능한 시나리오입니다. 당장 프라이스는 작년 8월까지 무슨 소리 들었는지 생각해보면... 뭐 틀릴 수도 있겠지만, 저 정보에 근거해서 제가 내린 결론은 이렇습니다. 무키 베츠는 FA로 풀린다. JBJ는 트레이드 가능성이 높다. 보스턴은 최근 몇 년간의 스카우트 실패를 인정하고 이쪽에 더욱 집중해야 한다. 이는 단순히 DD가 유망주들 팔아대서 생긴 문제가 아닙니다. BA랭킹에서 유독 보스턴은 투수 뻥이 심하고, 아무리 베닌텐디까지 보스턴이 매년 유망주들을 콜업시켰다지만 2015년 이후 BA랭킹 상위에 있던 유망주가 전부 다 망했다는 건 명백한 스카우팅 미스죠. 보스턴 레드삭스는 현재는 영광 속에 2010년대 말을 보내고 있습니다만, 그 뼈대는 너무나 부실하고 과거의 영광으로 전락될 수 있는 위험요소가 많습니다. 한계까지 차오른 페이롤은 확실히 문제지만 아직 핵심전력들의 나이가 젊은 편이니 동부지구 패권을 노릴 수 있는 전력이 2,3년 정도는 유지된다보고 그정도면 팜을 다시 부흥시킬 수 있는 충분한 시간이지않을까 생각됩니다.
