 m.news.nate.com/view/20150810n12050 이번에 1사단에서 북한군이 매설한 것으로 추정되는 목함지뢰를 밟아 수색대대 하사 2명이 중상당하는 사고가 있었습니다. 댓글들을 보거나 제 주변 지인들이 이야기하는 것을 들으니 수색대대 전역자로서 답답해 몇 자 적고자 합니다. 1 북한군이 지뢰 매설하러 오는것을 왜 몰랐나. 여름이 되면 수풀이 울창해져 시야가 매우 제한됩니다. 서부전선은 특히 평지가 많아 트와일라잇에 나올 법한 울창한 숲 지대들도 많습니다. 이런 곳은 대낮에도 밤처럼 어둡고 아군 gp가 쌍안경 혹은 TOD로 감지하기가 매우 힘듭니다. 이런 이유로 서로 비무장지대에 불을 질러, 며칠 내내 병사들이 그 독한 연기를 마셔야 하는 때도 있지요. (비무장지대 안의 불은 끄지 않음) 이번 사고가 벌어진 지역은 수풀 앞 추진철책인데, 빠르게 이동하면 아군 gp에 노출되는 시간이 약 3초 정도라고 합니다. 3초면 '이거 동물인가?' 할 수도 있고, TOD가 360도 모두를 감시하지는 않으므로 잠깐 다른 각도를 감시하고 있었을수도 있습니다. 이런 연유로 한여름 작정하고 넘어온 북한군을 인지하기는 쉽지 않습니다. 2 수색대대는 지뢰탐지기 없음?? 있습니다. 허나 안 씁니다. 지뢰탐지기는 말이 지뢰탐지기고 사실 금속탐지기입니다. 탄피 찾을때 매우 유용하죠.. 무게도 무겁습니다. 수색대가 수색할 때 탄, 수류탄, 총기, 기타 보직에 맞는 물품들(무전기, 구급낭, 후레쉬..) 을 챙겨 가면 개인당 등짐무게가 15kg쯤 됩니다. 여기에 선두의 수색조장이 지뢰탐지기를 들고 그 무게에 총기까지 휴대해서 간다? 수색의 본질과도 멀어질 뿐더러 굉장한 비효율입니다. 그리고 애초에 플라스틱 발목지뢰나 목함지뢰는 아주 작은 공이만 쇠로 되어있으므로 잘 탐지되지도 않습니다. 무게도 무게지만 지뢰탐지기를 사용하며 수색을 한다면 10분 거리를 1시간에 가야 합니다. 보통 수색 제한시간이 3~4시간이므로 절대적으로 불가능합니다. 그래서 저희는 지뢰탐지기를 갖고 가되 분리해서 각자 등짐에 부품을 나눴습니다. 의심스러운 지역(계곡이나 물골지역은 지뢰가 떠내려올 수 있습니다)에서만 가끔 조립해서 돌리는 것도 굉장한 FM이라고들 했습니다. 사실 저희 부대도 지뢰따윈 배제하고 지뢰탐지기를 휴대하지 않는 부대였지만 옆 사단에서 지뢰사고가 터져 그때부터 휴대만 했습니다. 3 그럼 지뢰 제거는 안하나? 연례행사로 합니다. 지뢰탐지복이 따로 있습니다. 이번주 진짜사나이를 보신 분은 아실지도 모르겠습니다. 옷 무게만 30키로에 육박합니다. 한여름에 그걸 입고 수색하라면 아마 지뢰 밟고 죽겠다는 사람들이 더 많을 겁니다. 저도 몇 번 안 입어봤지만 그걸 입으면 다른 장비를 착용할수가 없기 때문에 보통은 공병대대가 와서 지뢰탐지를 하고 수색대대가 엄호를 합니다. 그걸 매일 매달 할 수는 없으므로 연례행사로 합니다. 가끔 수색로를 새로이 개척해야 할 일이 있으면 그때도 합니다. 한번 개척된 수색로는 안전하다는 암묵적인 생각이 있으므로 1사단 수색대도 그런 생각에서 의심 없이 수색을 진행하다 지뢰를 밟은 것이 아닌가 합니다. (지뢰가 떠내려오는 지역도 아니고, mdl이남이므로 안전하다는 생각) 이번 사고의 보복으로 대북심리부대가 활동을 재기할 것이라는 말이 있던데요. 북한이 어떤 반응을 보일지는 모르나 고무적인 일이라고 생각합니다. 각자 무사히 전역한 것을 다시 한번 감사하는 하루가 되었으면 좋겠습니다. 추가로 기사가 올라왔네요. -구홍모 합참작전부장은 "7월22일 이전에는 우리 병력이 거기에서 활동했기 때문에 그전에는 매설하지 않았고 7월23일부터 지뢰가 폭발한 8월4일 전날인 8월3일까지 그 사이에 매설했다"고 설명했다. 수색 코스는 사단마다 약 20여개가 있는걸로 압니다. 매주 날씨, 북한군의 동향, GP와의 연계작전 등을 고려해 작전명령서가 내려오는데 어디 코스를 몇명이 가라, 라고 내려오지요. 합참작전부장 말대로라면 7월 22일에 사고지역 수색이 있었고 8월 4일에 같은 코스의 수색이 있었다는 말이 됩니다. (중간에 빈 날짜들은 다른 코스를 돌았겠죠) 불과 10여일 안에 북한군이 내려와서 지뢰를 심었다, 라는 생각은 GP가 관측 자체를 못했기 때문에 수색대대원들이 하기는 불가능합니다. 그렇다고 GP를 탓하기에는 위에서 언급한대로 많은 어려움이 있어서.. 여러모로 안타깝습니다.
