아들(만 4세)은 장난감을 좋아한다. 이것저것 가리지 않는다. 또봇, 카봇, 지오메카, 터닝메카드, 다이노코어, 포켓몬, 로보카 폴리 등등. 10만원대에 달하는 장난감도 있는 반면, 킨더조이 사면 나오는 장난감이나 문방구에서 500~1000원 주고 뽑는 장난감도 있는데, 참 골고루 가지고 논다. 큰 장난감을 좋아하긴 하지만, 정작 가지고노는거 보면 작은 장난감들이거나, 레고 조각 조립해서 칼싸움하는걸 오히려 더 좋아하는 듯 하다. 차별없이 가지고 논다고 해야하나. 그래서 그런지 장난감을 버리기가 쉽지 않다. 뭐 하나라도 버릴라 치면 금세 '내가 좋아하는건데~!' 하며 입이 쑥 나온다. 그래서 고장나서 도무지 안되겠다 싶은 장난감은 몰래 몰래 버린다. 아내는 아들에게 장난감을 줄때면 나름 원칙이 있다. 생일이나 크리스마스 같이 특정한 이벤트 일 때, 스티커 50개 모으기 같이 일정한 목표를 달성했을 때. (밥을 하도 늦게 먹어서 시간내로 먹으면 스티커 3개씩 주는데, 이거 50개 모으는 것도 정말 오래 걸리는거 같다. 다같이 밥먹는 시간이 저녁시간 밖에 없긴 하지만.) 아내의 원칙은 장난감을 '사주는'게 아니라 장난감을 '주는'거다. 장난감은 미리 산다. 정말정말 싸게 인터넷에 나오면. (얼마전에 장인어른이 아들을 데리고 마트에서 사주신 장난감이 8만 얼마 했는데, 어제 씨XX몰 보니 9900원에 팔더라... 허허.) 산 장난감은 일단 아들 눈에 보여준다. 그리고 나서 '이거 스티커 다 모으면 뜯을 수 있어' 라고 이야기한다. 아직 애가 욕심이 없는건지 다른 장난감이 많아서 그런건지 그렇게 이야기하면 절대 뜯지 않고 그대로 놔둔다. 그냥 포장한 채로 눈으로만 봐도 좋은건지, 아니면 기다리는건지는 나도 잘 모르겠다. 어쨌든 스티커를 다 붙일때 까지는 뜯진 않는다. 식사 예절을 바르게 해주고 싶어서 나름 생각해낸 안인데, 시간이 지나니 집에 포장을 뜯지 않은 장난감이 쌓인다는 부작용이 좀 있긴 하다. 아내의 원칙이 이러하다 보니 나도 아들에게 장난감을 사주는게 인색해지는거 같다. 나 어릴적을 생각하면 정말 좋아하는거 종류별로 한세트씩 사주고 싶긴 하다. 하지만 원하는대로 사줘버릇하니 마트 가면 당연히 사줘야 하는 것 처럼 굴길래 원칙을 되도록이면 따르고는 있다. 가끔 예외를 두는건 아들이랑 둘이서 병원을 가거나 머리를 자르러 가거나 하면 문구점 가서 작은거 하나 정도 사자고는 한다. 부자간에 이런 정도의 소소한 즐거운 경험은 하나씩 있는게 좋을거 같아서. 이러다보면 사춘기 되어서 '아빠, 게임 현질하게 문상좀 사줘요' 할지도 모르겠다 싶다. 퇴근할 때면 회사 앞의 마트에서 가끔 ABC로봇 장난감을 하나 산다. 1000원 하는거. 불량식품 같은 알사탕이 들어있지만 그건 먹진 않고 그냥 버린다. 가끔 외출 하러 나가서 아들이 심심해할 때가 있다. 그러면 주머니에서 작은 장난감을 꺼내주는데, 그때 '우와~'하며 좋아하는 모습을 생각하면 늘 주머니에는 뭔가 있어야 하겠다 싶은 마음에 하나씩 비상용으로 넣어놓는다. 언젠가는 알파벳 26개를 다 모으겠지 하는 마음도 살짝 들어있는게 사실이긴 하다. 물론 인터넷에서 몽땅 다 주문해버리면 되긴 하지만, 랜덤박스를 뽑는 기분을 괜히 아들 핑계대면서 느껴보고 싶은건지도 모르겠다.
