도종환 의원이 장관에 내정되기 전까지 제가 도종환씨에 대해 알고 있던 것은 시인이고, 시인인데 비례대표로 국회의원이 되었다는 정도였습니다. 유명한 시인이라는 것을 알기는 알지만 깊게 아는 것은 아니고, 환빠와 관련한 일화도 국회에서 어떤 일이 있었더라 딱 저정도의 대략적인 인상만 가지고 있었지요. 그가 장관으로 내정되고 나서 도종환씨의 발언을 들을 일도 많아지고, 환단고기와 관련한 일화도 더 자세히 알게 되면서 문체부장관으로는 적절하지 않다 생각도 했지만, '문화계 인사'로 비례대표의원으로 활동한 경력, 청문회에서 국민들에게 찍은 눈도장, 시인으로서의 명망, 국회의원으로서 청문회통과의 용이성, 결격사유로 많이 논의되는 환빠는 여야를 가리지 않고 퍼져있는 점을 생각할 때 현정부에서 뺄 이유도 상황도 없다고 생각했지요. 뭐..결과도 모두의 예상대로고요. 그런데 며칠전, 예전에 같이 일하던 변호사님을 뵈었습니다. 이분은 제가 좋아하는 분이신데요. 소탈하시고, 권위의식 없으시고, 일에 충실하시고, 박학다식하시고, 새로운 것을 배우는데 열심이신 분이십니다. 몇년 전에는 요즘은 판소리를 배우고 계시다고 해서 깜짝 놀랐었고, 가락이 멋들어지셔서 감탄했지요. 그런데 식사중에 판소리 얘기를 하다가 약간 이야기가 묘한 방향으로 흘러간다는 느낌을 받았어요. 일본이 정말 우리나라의 모든 것을 망쳐놨다는 이야기였지요. 우리 민족혼을 끊기 위해서 민족 무술도 명맥을 끊어놓고, 판소리 등 민중의 대중문화를 말살하고 자기들의 엔카, 트로트를 고급예술이라 들여와 대중들에게 퍼뜨려서 젊은 사람들이 우리 고유의 노래를 듣지 않는다고 하셨지요. 사실 저는 민요를 좋아합니다. 요즘은 일부러 찾아듣는 정도는 아니지만 '김용우' 의 1집 지게소리 2집 괴나리는 소장하고 있고 대학다닐때 CDP로 듣고 다니기도 했어요. 하지만.. 냉정히 말해 트로트든 엔카든 그것을 '고급'문화로 향유하지는 않고 예전에도 고급문화로 향유했는지는 의문이고, 지금의 대중음악의 추세로 볼때 트로트나 엔카, 민요 등등이 일제가 아니라도 우리 전통음악이 대중음악으로서의 생명력을 유지했을거라 보긴 어렵습니다. 사실 일제시대 당시로 보아도 일본놈들이 조선인들 즐기라고 엔카를 들여왔다고 보긴 어렵잖아요? -_- 결과적으로 영향은 어느정도 있었을지는 모르나 전통음악의 맥이 끊기는 것을 일제탓으로 돌리는 것은 좀.. 트로트도 생명력이 얼마나 남았을지 불분명한 판이고 서양의 클래식도 점점 쇠락해가는 판에 말이죠. 그런데 나아가 최근엔 탁구를 배우셨다며 일본제국주의가 우리의 탁구까지 망쳐놨다고 하시는 겁니다. 펜홀더 그립만 정통으로 받아들이고 쉐이크핸드 그립은 이상한 사이비처럼 여기는 풍조가 일본애들이 그렇게 만들어서 우리에게 그렇게 주입해서 탁구가 발전을 못한다고.. 저는 여기서 좀 깼...어요. 우선 펜홀더 그립을 정석으로 하는 건 그렇게 알고 배우긴 했습니다만 쉐이크핸드 그립을 안 가르치는 것도 아니고, 아무려면 어떻습니까....-_-....게다가 이걸 뭐 강요하거나 그런 것도 아니잖아요. 장단이 있는 건데. 무엇보다 탁구는 동북아 3국이 모두 좋아하는 스포츠이고 중국이 최강이지만 우리나라도 티어1인 스포츠입니다. 이건 굳이 따지자면 탁구 좋아하는 일본애들이 우리에게 보급한 결과라고 할 수도 있을 것이고 자기들이 펜홀더그립을 정석으로 하니까 영향받은 우리도 그렇게 시작한 것 뿐 이것을 일제 식민지 시대의 '과'라고 할 수는 없는 거잖아요. 탁구만 생각하면 '공'이면 공이지... 이야기가 명확하게 '환단고기'로 흘러가진 않았습니다만 일제의 해악을 강조하면서 '고대사도 엄청 왜곡되어 있다'는 한차례 언급이 지나가면서 저는 느꼈지요... 아..이것은.... 정말 환독은 무섭습니다. 그런데 말이죠. 저는 여전히 이분을 좋아하고, 이분의 업무능력을 의심하지 않습니다. 이 분은 여전히 소탈하고, 권위적이지 않으시고, 항상 무언가를 새로 더 배우려는 향상심을 가진 분이시고, 의뢰인에게 충실하고 성실한 착한 분이세요. 좀 오바해서 이 분이 법무부장관으로 내정된다고 치면 저는 이분이 자기 일을 충분히 잘 하실 분이라고 생각합니다. 아마 다른 사람 없는 자리이고 시간이 좀 있는 자리였다면 저 묘한 점에 대해 지적하면서 얘기 나눌 수도 있는 분이고, 제 말도 경청하실 분이라고 생각해요. 그렇다면.. 이런 제 감상은 도종환장관에게도 적용될 수 있어야겠죠. 그래서 저는 도종환에 대해 다시 생각해보려 합니다. 저는 도종환 장관을 잘 모릅니다. 하지만 이 분도 환빠지만 자기일은 잘 할 수 있는 사람일 수도 있겠죠. '문화체육부'라는 점에서 환빠라는 단점이 업무에 영향이 있는 관련성이 있다는 생각도 들긴 하지만.. 뭐 교육부는 아니니까... 우려는 남고, 환빠는 분명 중대한 -포인트지만, 그걸 덮을 수 있는 +포인트가 있을 수 있으니까요. 앞으로 도종환 장관이 그걸 모르는 국민들에게 자신의 +포인트를 알려줄 수 있기를 희망합니다. 그런거 없으면...안습이고요 ㅠㅠ /쓰다보니 길어져서..티타임에 올립니당. 예술작품을 본다거나, 아니면 뭐 변호사 선임이라거나, 혹은 진료라거나, 그 사람의 능력의 범주를 인위적으로 제한하고 관점도 제한할 수 있으며 그럴 필요가 있는 일에 한해서라면 큰 문제가 없다고 봅니다. 예컨대 환빠인데 공대 교수, 창조과학회원인데 국문학 교수... 이런건 심대한 문제는 없다고 생각합니다. 그러나 장관의 업무가 이런 범주에 들어가는가에 좀 의문이 있고, 그 점에서 이 사람의 합리성이 어느 수준에서 구현되는가를 확인해볼 필요가 있다고 생각합니다. 좀 더 직설적으로 말하면, 겁내 까버려서 본인의 사고관을 어떻게 바꾸는가를 확인해보고, 바뀌지 않는다면 문제가 있다고 판단할 수 있을 겁니다.
그리고 심대한 문제는 없을 수 있지만... 사소하면서도 큰 문제가 있습니다. '저런 게 우리 나라 장관입니다'가 매우 쪽팔립니다.
